Returning after thirteen years with the opportunity to collaborate in a fantasy realm, Castle Panic from Fireside Games is coming back with a fresh set of content. They are bringing a whole new line of products, including a new edition box with additional content, a chunky big box and a new expansion to the tabletop, all tied together with updated artwork.

Launching at Gen Con, the classic board game title is getting a revival, not just with the streamlined new look. They have also included updates to the mechanics to enable smoother gameplay.

If you have never played Castle Panic before, the title brings a Fantasy siege to the tabletop. One-to-six players will defend the walls of their castle against incoming attacks from monsters that dwell within the woods. As heroes are fortified central to the board, players will be cooperating to bat away any nuisance. They will be working out a strategy to slay the monsters surrounding them by trading cards and working together to hold the fort.

Although Castle Panic is a cooperative game awarding all players the win if successful in keeping the castle safe, one player is specifically awarded a special title of Master Slayer. That's the one who rakes in the most Victory Points.

Alongside the fresh new look and release, a new expansion has been announced too named Crowns And Quests. Providing new outlook posts that you'll have to keep standing and new job roles within the Royal Court. They are also adding in twelve new playable characters with new abilities to help balance the onslaught. There are also additional quests that can change the pace and structure of the incoming army. Players will be playing with mission and purpose against new monsters and working with interesting artefacts.

If you were looking at reentering the castle and want to go all-in with the new edition, the Big Box will equip you with enough content to expand and have fully embraced the world of Castle Panic. This not only includes the new edition and expansion but three previous expansions; The Wizard’s Tower, The Dark Titan, Engines of War. Plus additional promo items including six towers and seven promo cards.

Because there's a lot to squeeze in this mammoth box, there is an organisation tray insert to ensure everything in the castle is in tip-top condition when the candles go out. It's wonderful to see Castle Panic back on the forefront once again. I have personally spent hours challenging myself with solo training to become a Master Slayer. It will certainly be interesting to revive my title with my new gaming group, and of course, bring in a new expansion.

Fireside Games will be heading over to Gen Con this year, celebrating the launch of Castle Panic's second edition with a pre-release party. With a solid release schedule of each individual item being released to retail already lined up. With Castle Panic, Castle Panic Big Box and Crowns and Quests being released to the masses on November 30th, and further expansions being drip-fed to release through January, February and March of 2023.
