Blood On The Sands is a historically inspired skirmish game where you take on the role of a Lanista, the master of a gladiator school known as a ludus. You will recruit, train and manage your group of unique gladiators who will each come with their own strengths, weaknesses and distinct fighting styles. Tactical duels make up the majority of your thematic campaign but between these bouts, you'll also have to make decisions which will bring fame or infamy to your ludus.

You will shepherd your gladiators from novices to veterans as you claim victory in the arena. Whilst some will rise to great heights, the majority will find themselves bleeding out on the sands of the arena even as the roar of the crowd fills their ears.
Combat // Blood On The Sands
Blood On The Sands is inspired by history and great care has been given to honour that with historical references and ancient accounts driving the themes and the authenticity of the game. All of that comes together to produce those thrilling one-on-one gladiatorial duels in the arena, driven by a unique combat system which echoes the back-and-forth dance between your fighters. You cannot succeed by brute force alone though and you will need to excel at timing, positioning and more as well as a dash of luck to survive these bloody skirmishes.

How To Play Blood On The Sands
As well as being able to delve into the game with another player, you could also get stuck into a multiplayer campaign. This brings new foes for you to battle as part of a narrative campaign that culminates in a grand Saturnalia. Your gladiators will still gain experience, injuries and battle scars with one striving to claim the title of champion.
Cards // Blood On The Sands
All of this can be found within the Core Box for Blood On The Sands which gives you everything for two players to step into the arena.

Each set comes with a bunch of multi-part hard plastic miniatures produced by the folks at Wargames Atlantic. You'll also find a whole bunch of additional components (as seen above) which will get you started in your gladiatorial bouts. There are also plenty of bonus bits and pieces available as part of the campaign from the folks at Wargames Atlantic but also Sarissa Precision as you'll see.
Pledge Levels, Stretch Goals & More
When it comes to taking part in the campaign, you can get stuck in via a selection of different pledge levels.

Two-Player Bundle // Blood On The Sands
There are a couple of great two-player options here including the basic Core Box Pledge but also the Ultimate Two-Player Bundle which comes with an extra rulebook, the MDF arena from Sarissa Precision, more Gladiators from Wargames Atlantic and the art print.
There are also bundles for six players plus a club pack and a retailer pack for those who want to go all-in with your friends in the local area. Stretch Goals are also available for you to scoop up and they will get added to throughout the campaign.

In addition to all of that, Add-Ons are in the mix including some brilliant bits and pieces from the folks at Wargames Atlantic and Sarissa Precision. You will have seen the Sarissa Precision MDF arena in our gameplay video. It's lovely and well worth picking up!
Add-Ons // Blood On The Sands
It would be worth picking up the added accessories from Wargames Atlantic to help pretty up your arena. There are also those laser-cut MDF tokens which could be good for more hard-wearing tokens that will survive the rigours of constant use at your local club. All of this comes together to produce a rather fantastic game that sits apart from a lot of other Ancient games. You don't have to fight out the battles of the Roman age to get your Roman kick on the tabletop.

Looks nice but not 89€ + unknown shipping costs + vat + fees. Might take a second look at it if it hits retail here.
Stop backing Kickstarters. Do yourself a favour and just wait for retail.
For some smaller entities there would be no retail without the Kickstarter. Just sayin’.
The figures look exceptional for gaming with 👍
