Mondo & Project Raygun Team Up For The Thing: Infection At Outpost 31

Pop Culture Studio, Mondo, has paired up with USAoploy's newly formed, Project Raygun, to produce a fantastic, horror favourite from John Carpenter, The Thing.
The Thing: Infection At Outpost 31 allows players to take on the roles of MacReady, Childs, Garry and the other inhabitants of the Antarctic research station and attempt to work out who among them has been replaced by a shape-shifting alien monster.
It looks like the anxiety factor is going to be the driver of this board game as the activity intensifies. Players will have to explore the rooms of the outpost in an attempt to figure out who the shapeshifting monster is while making their way to safety outside and ultimately away in the helicopter.
The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 will drop this October in both a standard edition and a limited variant with different artwork, a Mondo print, pin badge and extra miniatures of the Palmer-Thing and one of the Norwegian scientists seen at the beginning of the film that will be limited to 1,982 copies (ya gotta love the meaning there).

What a wonderful match this kind of board game. Though it takes a certain ilk of players to rock this kind of game, but we always enjoyed stuff like Battlesta Galatctica and Dead of Winter quite a bit.

The film makes a great scenario for Call of Cthulhu RPG (or I should imagine Achtung Cthulhu too)

Oh damn, I’d love “Thing” miniatures! Yeah, this is right up my street….It’s practiclly my favourite movie because of how uber lovecraftian it is.
Man i always wanted somebody to make a thing game.. and at last somebody will…. Like the board,each sector has a 1 to 6 meaning a D6… i wonder if they is a solo play option…?
Looking at other websites, there seems to be “blood sample” cards, which can be clean or infected. I don`t know if you collect them other time, IE i was thinking you could have more then one card and when a blood test is done you flip them over, or just one card per character… looking forward to this…

I’m sorry, but I have to say it… the design of that game board is just… terrible. It’s so bright and cartoony… there is no depth to the illustration at all. None of the dark tense atmosphere of the movie is reflected in this game board.
With the sheer number of board games coming out these days, I find it shocking that a company would push something like this out that looks so rushed and unfinished.
So judgy. Maybe that isn’t final board?
I really hope this works. The Thing is one of my favorite movies so I desperately want this game to work and not just be a money grab. Fingers crossed.
