Bolt Action Goes To The Korean War This Friday

This week, Warlord will have a new Bolt Action supplement going up for pre-order moving the conflict out of WWII and into the battles of the Korean War.
This new supplement, combined with the Bolt Action second edition rule book, let's you play out all three years of the conflict, bringing in rules for jet aircraft and the special character Seasoned NCO.
There are army lists for the five major combatants of North Korea, South Korea, China, the U.S., and the Commonwealth, as well as the major United Nations ground forces like the French, Belgium, Greece and others.
As with all Warlord rule books, this one comes with a special figure.
One miniature set has been revealed for this new game supplement. This is probably the most excited I have been for a set of minis in quite a while.
Yup, it's the familiar faces of a certain M.A.S.H. unit whose television endeavours ended up lasting longer than the conflict they were set in.
I grew up watching M.A.S.H. and it still stands as one of my favourite TV shows. I think I will have to pick up a set of these to stand alongside my Bolt Action Dad's Army miniatures.
Are you excited to explore this period of history?
Well this is interesting. Korean War tends to be forgotten war so this is nice surprise.
I know little to nothing about the Korean war but wouldn’t mind picking up the MASH set. @sundancer is a big MASH fan, not sure he’ll be able to resist 🙂

A diorama is intended to be played with, you’ll be fine!

This could be a basis of a fun game – “Hr.Ms. “Piet Heim” became a member of the “Train-Busters Club” after destroying an enemy train”.
It should be “Hr. Ms. Piet Hein” as it is named after a famous Dutch captain who managed to take the Spanish silver fleet (sp?).
Anyways … that ‘train busters club’ sure sounds like a fun club, unless you like trains 😀
I wonder how the heck that ship managed to hit a train … and if that train was moving at any speed it sure as heck is an achievement.
I’d assume the train was stopped and even then you would have to be so accurate to hit a train from the sea. I do like trains…did you know the Luftwaffe destroyed about 500 steam locomotives in Britain during WW2? That was light compared to the rest of Europe.
The Americans got a club member too :

Already building a Chinese Army in anticipation for this.. built and painted a T-34/85, also have a T-26 light tank as well. Just waiting for the infantry to be released.

I’ll have those MASH characters at the very least. Delighted to see another conflict being covered by Bolt Action, first of many I hope.
As we have discussed on the SITREP we wonder if this is successful it might be a stepping point to BA:Vietnam (with massive rules amendments)
Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy published a Vietnam port of Bolt Action (they called it Full Auto). As Rik Priestley was and still is a regular contributor I guess it’s semi-official.
we talked to John at Salute about that and it’s not on the plans, you could be looking at years if ever. The feeling was that there are plenty of Vietnam games and manufacturers already out there so there is no rush to join a saturated market
Not a big fan of BA, and MASH (first season or 2 then meh) I neither need nor want figures for (are they going to have special rules for these? Thats silly. But then Bolt Action is kinda silly). Glad to see this conflict get attention anyway. I’ve seen the KPA models elsewhere.. and.. meh. And given their human wave tactics, isn’t it gonna be expensive to have an all metal model KPA force..? Damn I’m negative these days.
I was thinking about expense too. I had a great uncle who fought in Korea. He frequently experienced engagements with his platoon facing Chinese forces that were at least company strength. He told me once about facing attacks of 2+ companies at a time for over 8 hours. They were almost overrun and almost everyone was at least lightly wounded. Were rescued by some Sherman crocodiles. I don’t know how you can reasonably put together realistic fights on a standard table in 28mm. Seems more suited to Flames of War.

Not a big fan of WWII games, but this has definitely peaked my interest. Very curious about the armies available and the options to be had.
Is this a lead-in to more modern settings for Bolt Action?
