Community Spotlight: Starship Battles, Looted Walkers & Fantastical Terrain

June 15, 2018 by brennon

We stop into the Projects again this week and see what people have been working on. We have some very different approaches this week, showing off finished work, lots of WiP and even some table builds as well.

As always, everyone featured here wins themselves a Golden Button for their efforts and gets added into the hall of fame!

Darkstar Project by oriskany

We're looking at something a bit different to begin with here for the Community Spotlight. As we said, the focus of the Projects section is vast, opening up chances for painters, hobbyists and even those looking to develop their own games. That is exactly what oriskany has been doing with his Darkstar project.

Darkstar #1 - oriskany

He has been building up his game from the ground up, looking at concept art for the various ships and developing the rules through a series of test games too. The range of options he has been looking at for the game is vast as you'll see when you check out his project on the link above.

Darkstar #2 - oriskany

This amount of work, detailing each of the ships and the gameplay options for everything, deserves some recognition and it would be awesome to see how this all comes to fruition.

Darkstar #3 - oriskany

This is something we hope that more people are going to do. I love the idea of people beginning to plot out how their games grow here, offering up downloads for people to get stuck into, and using the community as your sounding board.

Darkstar #4 - oriskany

It will be fun to see where this goes next, and of course, make sure to chime in and talk to oriskany over on his project about the progress for Darkstar.

Looted Primaris Dreadnought by grotlobba

Focusing in on something which is at the WiP progress stage at the moment. grotlobba has been tinkering away on this amazing Looted Primaris Redemptor Dreadnought. This Ork Mek has had a lot of fun with this particular walker.

Looted Primaris Dreadnought #1 - grotlobba

There has been so much love and attention put into this build. Firstly, cracking open the Dreadnought and dropping one of those alternative Orks into the mix must have taken a lot of effort, but its when you look towards the rest of the model, with the additional weapon components and more, that you start seeing this come to life.

Looted Primaris Dreadnought #2 - grotlobba

grotlobba has gone into a lot of detail about everything to do with the process over on his project page, showing off how the individual components came together and where certain parts have come from.

Looted Primaris Dreadnought #3 - grotlobba

To find out more make sure to go and check out his project page, but in the meantime, I'm sure you have loads of questions. I love the amount of extra effort that went into making sure that those bolts all looked authentic! It really adds to the piece.

Fantasy Terrain by soldado

Last but not least we look towards some wonderful terrain from soldado who has been working on buildings and more for use in his games of Burrows & Badgers.

Burrows & Badgers Terrain #1 - soldado

All of the above buildings have been picked out to represent a down and dirty looking Fantasy world from the kingdom of Northumbrya.

Burrows & Badgers Terrain #2 by soldado

Not only has soldado been showing off the final products, which are looking fantastic, but also some of the progress that went into building them, especially pieces like his river section and bridge design.

Burrows & Badgers Terrain #4 by soldado

It is great seeing terrain projects like this come to life, inspired by the worlds we play in. The terrain is looking awesome, but also the painting too, which puts these pieces up onto the next level as you get a very cartoony, vibrant world to play around in.
