Dropfleet Commander Boot Camp – Friday

We're kicking off here at the Dropfleet Commander Boot Camp alongside Hawk Wargames, and as the members get stuck into their models we're seeing people building and even considering painting their models too!

We're seeing people tinkering around with a range of different models and starting to get to grips with the way you play with the sprues and more.

With that in mind stay tuned as we'll be talking with Dave from Hawk Wargames about some tips and tactics for putting together your Starter Set.

We're going to be talking with some of the Boot Camp members throughout the weekend as they start to explore their fleets.

Kicking things off we're talking with Richard about the UCM and what made him pick this faction.

When you get up close and personal with the models you see just how detailed they are. It's neat seeing how they're coming together.

We have a fair few UCM players and some PHR too. Shaltari also has a good showing but the Scourge might have their work cut out for them!

We're now chatting with Nate about why he went for the Scourge as his fleet of choice. I think you can guess the main reason and that's because they are rather pretty!

Well, pretty in their own weird way of course!

Folks are now truly getting stuck into building their Fleets and with that folks are also asking some rules questions of Dave from Hawk Wargames.

We're talking with Darren about what's going on with the Hawk Wargames Pop Up Shop where you can pick up some awesome bits and pieces to complement your fleet at the Boot Camp.

As well as additional Starter Sets we also have Battleships, Books, and of course more from The Army Painter too for someone looking to paint up their army here at the Boot Camp.

We're talking with Michael about why he chose to play as the PHR this weekend for Dropfleet Commander. Of course there's some tactical thinking going on here but...

...will this survive the coming games over the weekend?

One of the things we always try and do is put together a display board. In this case we took one of the mats from Deep-Cut Studio and then whacked Warren's massive Space Station on top of it.

You can see some of the ships floating around this mighty space station here in the images below. The question is, what kind of game are we going to put together featuring this?

What would you plan?

We're talking with Adam about just why he chose Shaltari as his fleet for Dropfleet Commander.

I think it had something to do with them looking beautiful alien...and a little like space hedgehogs. Cannot.Unsee.

With what is now a tradition we have a look at the food that's on offer.

We have some wonderful grub from the caterer including fish and chicken goujons and the good ol' fashioned chips.

There are some helpful hints in here for everyone who has picked up the game, no matter what faction, so get stuck in.

Justin has actually got some time to get involved with this particular Boot Camp. So, he picked up the PHR Fleet and has been gleefully putting it together.

He also has some plans for the paint scheme but some of us think it might make them look like a bunch of space bananas!

Before folks head to the pub they get in the last few minutes of building and painting before it all begins in earnest again tomorrow.

We take a look at the fleet painted up by Rob, of the Drop Beasts (more on that this weekend), who has gone for a very deep sea theme for his Scourge Fleet for this weekend.

They're looking great and it would be awesome to see them doing battle over the next couple of days!
