Catching Up With The Drowned Earth & Something Big Coming
Gerry has a chat with the folks at Olmec Games about The Drowned Earth. They have some stunning miniatures in the mix and, of course, some great-looking tables too – once you get the inspiration.
There is also something BIG coming. What is it going to be? Drop your thoughts below…
The Fight At Bronnzell From The Continental Wars Society
Another interesting one that I bumped into today. This comes from The Continental Wars Society who played out the Fight At Bronnzell.
This is a fight that played out in 1850 between the Prussians and the German Confederation of Bavaria and Austria. It was another one of those that looked like a fun spectacle and showed off some interesting forces for a conflict I had little knowledge of.
No More Damsels! Positive Inclusion In Tabletop Gaming
Free talks to the folks from No More Damsels about what they are doing as an organisation to build more welcoming gaming clubs.
Make sure to check out their website and more as this sounds like a solid way of making our gaming clubs all the more epic.
Folks Play Out The Year Of Liberty & The Irish Rising Of 1798
A collection of gentlefolk have put together some rules and a rather nifty campaign system for playing out The Year Of Liberty and The Irish Rising of 1798.
This has then come together as a rather fun participation game here at the event which features some stunning-looking terrain. I love anything that has a proper castle in it and looks anywhere near a siege!
SAGA At Sea From The Naval Wargames Society
The Naval Wargames Society is at Salute 2021 where they are showing off an amazing participation game where they are taking SAGA onto the high seas.
This is a fun participation game that features some mighty Anglo-Saxons going up against deadly foes. With some tweaked rules and a system based on 1st Edition, this was well worth having a go at.
Inquisitor Makes A Return!
I found it awesome that we had some folks putting together a bit of 54mm Inquisitor here at Salute. It’s ace that people are not only still playing the game but coming up with ways to add more characters into the mix.
Inquisitor was certainly one of those bold experiments by Games Workshop that didn’t quite work out. Did you have loads of the miniatures?
Terrain In All Manner Of Scales From BLOTZ
See what you make of some of the fun pieces of terrain that you’re able to pick up from the folks at BLOTZ. These folks are another smaller company doing some fun pieces.
There are some neat options in their range so make sure to take a closer look as part of the video and over on their website.
Moonstone... The Game... A look at their demo table.

As Duncan Rhodes and the other judges pull their favourites from the cabinets, here is a selection of those chosen for final judgement…
Weird & Wonderful Terrain From Wargames Terrain Workshop
Wargames Terrain Workshop have some really fun and interesting kits in their collection alongside some fun miniatures too.
It’s worth taking a look at them, especially as another of the smaller companies here, as they might have something you’ve not considered.
More Awesome Ancients
I am a sucker for armies that feature a bunch of phalanx. See what you make of this battle for Paraitacene during 317 BC. This features a clash between Eumenes Vs Antigonus in 28mm using the Impetus rules.
Are you someone who likes playing games based around this particular time period? Have you had some fun playing participation games like this at events like Salute?
Something Different! World Of Twilight Stuns
We delve back into the World Of Twilight. These are some fantastic-looking miniatures from a unique world. The miniatures are stunning and there are some great tabletops inspired by it too.
Are you someone who has been drawn into this strange and whimsical world?

An absolutely immense gaming table from the Loughton Strike Force. This is the battle for Stalingrad in 15mm, playing out the Fire On The Volga.
As you can see, this comes all the way up from the water and into the town, playing out a cracking clash between the different forces. It also features some amazing terrain.

Painting Competition - Science Fiction Single Figure
Pew Pew, Category 4. Science Fiction Single Figure up to and including 54mm Scale
Hit The Pitch With WWI Football Subbuteo Style!
We stopped off with the RAF Wargaming Association, which is a bit of a tradition now, and check out the wargame they have set up for people to play.
This time around they put together a fantastic game of Subbuteo set during World War I. So, you can follow the players from Britain and Germany clashing in the trenches…over a lovely game of football.
Painting Competition - Science Fiction Wargames Unit
A gander at category 5. Science Fiction Wargames unit: up to and including 40mm: 5 to 40 figures.

An Indie Of The Week Appears! Uncertain Scenery
We stopped off with the folks from Uncertain Scenery to talk about their fantastic terrain. You might remember that we talked about them as part of an Indie Of The Week.
They have some really fun terrain that is perfect for skirmish games and other tabletop games where a strong narrative is key.
The Battle For Mexico 1915
Something a bit different! This is an awesome, slightly larger scale game, which features The Battle For Mexico in 1915.
I always like this kind of thing, messing around with larger scales. It works specifically well for those who want to dive into participation games.

Painting Competition Opens For Entries
Each year the South London Warlords run the Painting competition at Salute.
It’s attracted a higher and higher level of skill as the years have gone on, while this is a serious competition we should not forget this is also a bit of fun for anyone at Salute to enter.
Wellington In India - A Tribute To Stuart Asquith
Another one from the South London Warlords. They have some impressive tables set up in the middle of the hall. This one follows Wellington In India and is a tribute to Stuart Asquith.
The miniatures look stunning, the terrain is impressive and it really creates a sense of scale. It’s always nice to see finished miniatures but even better to see them introduced onto a battlefield like this.
Retreat To The Dnieper! Checking Out Some Of The Tables Getting Set Up
I couldn’t help getting a look at some of the awesome gaming tables being set up. This one, the Retreat To The Dnieper, is a neat-looking game that shows off a blasted city! I love seeing tables like this coming together!

I bought a Jackalope… Mooooooonstone <3
Is it house trained?
Finished work and catching up with all of the posts and videos. This is great, really enjoying the coverage.
I’d never heard of Full Metal Miniatures and they have a special Catherine Leroy mini which I have to pick up because she was bad ass. Great looking range.
Can I just say “Thank you” for the team running around the show floor like lemmings (or squirrels) on speed to bring us as much coverage as possible in one day? I don’t want to image how much work the team (and editors) need to lift. I raise my glass to you.
Love the Stalingrad table. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could pass that table around to various groups and clubs so they would all have a chance to play on such a great table. Just like going to the library, excuse me miss, I would like to check out the Stalingrad table for the weekend!!!!!! It w0uld be incredible to share the love.
Really good stuff gang!
I miss seeing these events. Glad that the bug is not holding us back any longer.
I wish I was there.
You guys covered a lot of stuff! Some of those paint jobs are spectacular. Just a little jealous. I’m hanging out for The Silver Bayonet (the release in the upside down land has been pushed back to very early next year). I know I can just jump online and order it but I’d like to support my local independent bookstore OR FLGS.
The Stalingrad game looks great. Have you got any more details on that?
I wish I could be there – self isolation suck. 🙁
Look forward to watching these as a late Sunday treat
I was really disappointed by this year’s Salute. There were so many empty tables and stalls and one can’t help but think the empty stalls were traders or exhibitors who simply didn’t show – I can’t see that people would waste the effort putting stalls up for traders who hadn’t booked. I know some of the European Traders (Wargamer Games, Microart Studio) were having customs issues. I saw announcements from a couple of other UK traders apologising but not really giving a reason for not attending. The upshot was a convention that just felt empty and it worries me that… Read more »
Thanks for the coverage folks.
