Star Wars: Legion Weekend Completed! (plus some prizes)
That’s it for a glorious weekend of hobbying friends. We’ve had a great time in the studio spending time with our community members and hearing from you at home. For five lucky hobbyists here we have some prizes to reward some of the stand out moments for the weekend from teaching people to play games to just been the loveliest people to be around.
It’s been a packed weekend where we have talked about 3D printing and the benefits between FDM and resin 3D printers for terrain and models. We’ve filmed a few tutorials talking about airbrushing. We’ve had livestreams where we painting U-Wings, constructed bases for Ewoks and assembled buildings. We hope you’ve enjoyed all of our content which you can find on the liveblog!
Finally a big thanks from everyone on the team for tuning in, whether it was commenting on the live blog, taking part with your own Star Wars: Legion projects at home or joining us on our livestreams. Hope you all enjoy the new Star Wars movie (and the new episode of The Mandalorian).
May the force be with you!
Creating The Perfect Scenario For Our Gaming Tables
Two of our hobbyists have been setting up a very interesting looking game on our Skellig table.
Dan and Nick are chomping at the bit to throw their armies out on the table but they’ve also constructed a really cool scenario for the table which involves capturing the central bridge. The Imperial side has a few manoeuvrable units that can cross the river in the centre so it will be interesting to see how this one turns out.
Star Wars Legion Weekend Golden Button Winners
It’s been a tremendous weekend of hobby here in the Cult of Games suite in the OnTableTop studio but it’s also been and amazing weekend of hobby from you lot in the community.
Here’s a few projects that caught our eye I and have won their creators some very special Star Wars Legion Weekend Golden Buttons.
Opening Our Hobby Advent Calendar
One of our fabulous community members – blinky465 – sent us a handmade advent calendar with a miniature behind each door. Having been eejits with a bit too much drink in us we forgot to open it on our XLBS stream last night.
So without further ado we open doors 14 and 15 of blinky’s wonderful advent calendar!
Josh's Finished Army Resplendant With Base Toppers
We’ve got a couple of pictures of Josh’s army who we’ve featured throughout the weekend for his marvellous base toppers.
Here we can see his battle droids in full splendour atop these very stylish bases made from milliput and plasticine. You can check out our videos earlier on in the live blog to find out exactly how (spoiler alert: it involves a pasta maker)
Figuring Out Rules For Our 3D Printed Ewok Force
Warren and Gerry sit down to talk about the 3D printed Ewok force and the rules that Gerry has been coming up for them.
The regular Ewok force can be found in little squadrons of three for that beautiful swarm effect. There are also gliders to drop rocks on AT-STs.
Somebody Painted Their Freakin Baby Yoda!
Cuteness personified. Eater of frogs. Leader of the free worlds. Baby Yoda has come to stand for all that is good and holy in this world despite all that might drag us down. Of the figures who have united us this year (like the goose) one slightly tip toes above the rest.
Having given out baby Yoda figures last night to attendees someone has gone and painted him up. Adorable! However, our attendees have been doing loads of other hobby work that deserves recognition!
Every Stormtrooper in Star Wars Explained By Lucasfilm | WIRED
Hey all, this video from WIRED popped up in my YouTube feed last night. It’s pretty cool watching for those of you working on imperial or First Order armies.
As the title suggests every trooper type in the Star Wars saga is showcased, it a great way to get some miniature painting ideas.
Welcome to Day Three of the Star Wars: Legion Weekend #StarWarsWeekend
It’s the final day of the Star Wars: Legion Weekend here at OnTableTop and we’ve had a blast so far. Between the hobby time, games played and our livestreams we have enjoyed the company of our community both online and offline. you can check out our entire weekend coverage throughout the live blog here.
But we still have more to come today. There are those still putting the finishing touches to their armies, we have Justin and Warren still working away at their projects and we may have some surprises to come. So stay tuned on the live blog for more updates on the days proceedings.
Community Streamers Are Pumping Out The Minis!

Painting Rebels & Deadly Imperial Minds
Another project we’re looking at comes from @hairybrains who has been painting up some fantastic models. There are plenty of nice pieces in here, some inspired by the work of Sorastro on Youtube and others taking cues from the films and a little bit of a keen eye.
You can follow along with this project HERE and tell us what you make of the work he has been doing.
Painting Project Prowess & Games On The Go
@laughingboy from the community has been working away really hard over the weekend painting up the entire Starter Set for Star Wars: Legion and then managed to dive in and get playing some games too on the tabletop. If you’ve not been able to check out his hard work you can look back over his livestream content HERE.
The lads seemed to have a great time painting and playing and you can see more from the little project HERE.
Join Justin For His Sunday Morning Build Stream
The people have decided!! Justin will now build the hanger on stream. And if time permits he will also blast through the guild hall.
You can join the stream to encourage the egg at your leisure. What kind of game would you love to see the hanger in? Would you use it as a location for objectives? Or would you subvert the build and blast a hole through the side so it becomes an epic set piece for your army to roll through?
Star Wars: Legion Weekend - Day Two Completed
It’s been a busy day at OnTableTop HQ. Our hobbyists have dedicated themselves to their armies and have come up with some spectacular paint schemes for them. From padawan to Jedi master, everyone has given their all and picked up some new tricks along the way.
Today we’ve had 3D printing tutorials, airbrush tutorials, livestreams galore, amazing base toppers and even a game or two on our epic Star Wars tables. you can check back through all our content on the liveblog.
And make sure to tune in for the live blog tomorrow where we’ll have more live streams and plenty mroe content from the Star Wars: Legion weekend!
A Real Stand Out Group Of Rebels
Tony has been quietly industrious in a corner of the hobby hall and produced a beautiful collection of Rebel Alliance figures.
In a gorgeous forest green they’d be right at home on Endor provoking the imperial pigdogs of the empire. Having finished his rebel force he’s now moving on to his Imperial army which we’re looking forward to seeing tomorrow!
Some Quiet Time For Warren & Gerry To Paint The Thala-Siren
Thankfully the butterfly hobbyist within Warren has settled down enough to continue work on the beautiful Thala-Siren model made for us by John Haywood of Hayland Terrain.
Using a combination of sprays and water to reactivate the paints and guide it into the crevices of the mini it has turned into a quick paint job but a striking figure altogether.
Airbrush Master Dan Continues Work On His Downed AT-ST
Dan has continued work on his lovely downed AT-ST model.
Fresh from his airbrush masterclass from Jedi Master John, Dan has started laying out the base work on his model with reds and yellows combining to lovely effect. Hopefully John will have this rolling out on our Geonosis table tomorrow for a game or two.
You Decide What Justin Builds Tomorrow On Stream
Justin has so far put together two of the buildings from the Knights of Dice but he doesn’t know which one to start off with on stream tomorrow morning.
There are a couple sheds but the real interest is between the hanger and the guild hall buildings. Let us know down in the comments which you think he should build first!
The Results of John's U-Wing Painting Stream
John locked himself in a room with some paints and a U-Wing: the result is pretty impressive.
On our livestream today John was joined by fine folks all across the interwebs to share in his hobby time. Having completed the model to his satisfaction, Warren stepped in and added a few more steps to proceedings with some great weathering to the model.
This won’t be the last time you see this U-Wing as there might be some more steps to apply tomorrow!
How Would You Paint The Thala Siren From Episode VIII?
The secret 3D printing job that Justin undertook last night has born fruit – milky green fruit!
The Thala Siren from Episode VIII is something that Warren has been quite keen to get his hands on. And if we can get him to stick to the one project we might just see it completed this weekend. For now the plan is to give it a zenith spray and plan from there. This is a model very kindly made by John Haywood of Hayland Terrain.
Assembling Some Knights of Dice Terrain
Justin has taken it upon himself this weekend to assemble some mighty fine terrain.
Knights & Dice have sent terrain all the way over from Australia and Justin is sitting down to put it together. there is a hanger bay reminiscent of the one which held the Millennium Falcon in episode IV and a couple of other buildings that would fit right in to the Star Wars universe.
3D Printing The Mandalorian!
Josh has brought along with him a very fine bounty indeed: the Mandalorian!
Cooked up in the foundries of the Imperial Terrain Commission and Skullforge Studios, Justin shows Josh how you go about using a Resin Printer. From start to finish Josh is shown through the process and why it might be more advantageous to use a resin printer than an FDM one for models.
War Has Finally Broken Out On Endor!
Those furry, forest brats couldn’t conceal their ill deeds any longer! The empire has descended to restore balance to the force on the forest moon of Endor.
Gerry has been introducing a couple of keen players to the rules of Star Wars: Legion and they’re starting to get their first game on the tabletop. It’s empire versus the rebel alliance in this tale as old as time!
The Student Has Become The Master of Airbrushing
Now Dan is the master! Showing just how intuitive airbrushes can be Dan has jumped at any model he can get his hands on to practice.
Having honed the technique on the downed AT-ST, Dan swiftly went on to paint his healthier model and was so enthused about the process and the instant gratification that comes from airbrushes, he moved on to some of his friends’ models! That’s another convert to the ways of the airbrush!
Join The Fluffy Pink Side Of The Force
After you’ve conquered the galaxy and suppressed countless insurrections, wouldn’t you get the fluffy pink slippers on and put your feet up?
In addition to some lovely basing work around the room, we’re also seeing some great painting on every army in the hobby hall. We can also bring an exclusive update on the music situation. there are some paragons of taste with Tay Tay and Pink being blasted out!
Join Us For A Saturday Livestream Where John Paints A U-Wing
Join us for another livestream at OnTableTop HQ where we take a tour of the hall on this fine Saturday of hobbying.
After catching up with our keen hobbyists, we dive in to the cage with John where he is going to run through a tutorial of painting a U-Wing? What’s a U-Wing you ask? It’s like a U boat but in a galaxy far far away…
How To Make Delicious Base Toppers With A Pasta Maker
What do pasta makers and wargaming bases have in common? They both make delicious treats? Well, not quite.
Gerry returns to the industrious Josh to find out exactly how he is making his amazing base toppers. the secret sauce is actually a pasta maker. With a combination of milliput and plasticine, Josh has been feeding it through the pasta maker then putting a textured rolling pin over the top to get some amazing details.
Visiting The Ewoks - Building An Awesome Forest Moon Of Endor Tabletop
This Forest Moon Of Endor table is the one which makes use of the fantastic terrain from the folks at 4Ground and Battle Kiwi. As you can see it really does look pretty impressive on the table and provides you with the perfect level of diversity when compared against the darker green of the trees.
Since Warren is working away on some great Ewoks for use in the game of Star Wars: Legion it only seemed right that we build a table to match it…or was it the other way around? Either way, we think this is going to be fun to play games on.
Guiding Young Padawans In The Ways Of The Airbrush
Guided will young padawan Dan be in the ways of the airbrush. Master John shows him the ways of the force.
Dan has an AT-ST model that he would love to use an airbrush on. But there’s also a downed At-ST for him to practice on. So John talks him through the steps of transitioning with aerosol primers to airbrushing techniques.
Our Hobbyists Are Letting Out Their Creative Streak
People are really finding their creative streak this weekend as they dive into their armies from last night.
From stormtrooper variants to base toppers to lobster looking royal guards our hobbyists are having a blast bringing their Star Wars: Legion armies to life.
A 3D Printing Surprise With Justin
Justin has worked with one of our community members to print out a surprise Star Wars mini for Warren.
Gerry gets to grips with some 3D printing techno-wizardry as Justin talks about the resin 3D printer that we have in the office. Using beams of UV light to cure the liquid resin, the mini has been taking shape overnight at OnTableTop HQ (as everyone hit the pub).
Explore A Blasted Warzone - Check Out Our Genonosis Table!
We’ve been getting stuck into all sorts of ideas for this weekend and we wanted to build a table from each of the trilogies. That is where the ideas for our Geonosis table came in, the place where the Clone Wars began and the Republic brought their massive armies (and vehicles) to the tabletop.
We have already had a game played out on this board which features our mighty Juggernaut towering over the battlefield, perhaps broken down and in need of support as the enemy masses from all sides.
Share Your #StarWarsWeekend Projects With Us
As always, some of our community members have been getting stuck in and making projects as they paint up various characters, troops and more from the world of Star Wars. Competitive Star Wars Lists With Our Community
Gerry and Justin have called in one from our very own community to discuss competitive lists for Star Wars: Legion.
As much as this weekend is focusing on the hobby aspect of Star Wars: Legion, we can’t forget about those excited to play through their first games or who are thinking about entering a tournament or two. Tim is here to go in depth on two of his competitive lists he would run at tournaments and the strategic reasons behind certain point costs.
Welcome to Day Two of the Star Wars: Legion Weekend #StarWarsWeekend
It’s time for a full day of glorious hobby and wargaming folks! Lloyd has come armed with his own lightsaber and is ready to kick off the celebrations. We chat first with the two players locked in combat on Geonosis from last night to see how their game went. Lloyd then does away with his lightsaber envy as his can play a captivating tune for hours on end…
Gerry is helping others out with stormtrooper colour variations and we catch up with some of our hobbyists lovingly painting their armies. Tune in throughout the day as we bring you tutorials, games and some surprise 3D printing for Warren.
Star Wars: Legion Weekend - Day One Completed!
The first day of our Star Wars: Legion Weekend has come to a close. The allures of the pub will not be denied any longer!
It’s been a day filled with basing, painting and curiously enough: a game! Our hobbyists have come together from around the globe to spend the weekend together and it’s been a great first day. From photo galleries to videos to livestreams, you’ll be able to catch up on all our activities in the live blog here.
Let us know what you’re looking forward to seeing tomorrow!
Training The Next Generation of Jedi Hobbyists
Gerry has sat down with one of the younglings of the weekend to talk about how they got started and what they’re hoping to achieve this weekend.
Young Robbie is going with an Imperial force this weekend and has been sat next to hobby veterans thus far. Part of what is great about these weekends is seeing younger hobbyists who have only just started come in and fall in love with the hobby. It’s great to see and we’ll be encouraging Robbie with his edge highlighting and line work throughout.
More Models On The Painting Table
As with the possibilities for gaming, we also have lots of nice chances to get involved and do some hobby too. A lot of folks have got their Starter Sets for both the Original Trilogy and the Prequels and they are getting stuck in painting up all sorts of characters and troops.
We’re seeing people painting up Droids, Clones, Stormtroopers and plenty of characters in the mix too.
What If The Death Star Plans Were On Geonosis?
A battle of epic proportions has already kicked off on the Geonosis table: Jyn Erso is battling against Director Krennic.
It’s an interesting question to ask: how much would the dynamic of Rogue One been changed had the final third taken place on the desert wasteland of Geonosis. Well that’s what two of our attendees are finding out!
Warren Shows Off His Ewok 3D Prints
We’ve got Warren on the livestream right now talking about his Ewok 3D Prints.
What burning thoughts have you about the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi? Warren is quite excited to get some hobby time on his Ewok force that are ready to overthrow any right wing, imperialistic force that have been recently voted in. They’ll probably kill some Stormtroopers too!
People Get Stuck Into Building Their Forces (hah)
So, we’ve got a bunch of Cult Of Games members with us in the studio going through the creation of their armies, be they pesky Rebels or valiant Galactic Empire troops. As well as that you could even find some clones in the mix going up against the forces of the Separatists.
Battle Droids Deserve the Very Best Bases!
Gerry has spied someone doing pretty marvellous bases for their battle droids and wants to hear all about it.
Josh takes us through his progress so far and admits to having done some hobbying before the weekend *shock horror*. Ingenuity has been at the forefront, however, as Josh has extended his hobbying toolset to a pasta maker!
A Rundown Of Our Three Epic Star Wars Tables!
Hoy ahoy there all! If you haven’t already seen our epic table build then now is the time!
The guys take you through the inspiration for each table as it spans the entire Skywalker Saga. If they don’t have Porgs down on one of the tables though it’s a crime against humanity. The guys also go in depth for how the terrain came together.
Taking To Some Glorious Tabletops - Ahch-To Reimagined
We’re going to be taking you around some of the awesome tables that we’ve created for this Star Wars: Legion Hobby Weekend. The first of these is a reimagined Ahch-To that you might remember from The Last Jedi.
We decided to try and bring together an image of the planet if the Galactic Empire or First Order had managed to track down the Jedi Master. What planets would you like to change up to tell a different story?
Welcome To The Star War: Legion Weekend #StarWarsWeekend
Lloyd, Gerry & Justin get the Star War Legion Weekend under way in the Cult of Games gaming suite at the OnTableTop studio.
As we get ready for a packed weekend full of Star Wars miniatures and cool gaming tables as our visitors take there armies from a box to the table!

Can’t wait for it to start. I got my star wars stuff but not sure I’ll get much done; not the best weekend but will follow as best I can
I watched part 3 today. There are so many different sceneries on different planets in the order 66 sequence. So there are a lot of ways to tell the story
