UK Games Expo 2022: Sunday Live Blog

We’re back for Day THREE of the UK Games Expo here at the NEC. We have LOADS more videos for you today AND we’re also looking at getting the awards kicked off at 3pm later today!

Wayland Games stopped by the National Kidney Federation stall, and dropped off a whole host of Dystopian Wars to the charity. With battlefleets and squadrons to keep the children busy on the high seas throughout their ongoing treatment.

Gerry heads over to Drawlabs to find out more on the upcoming strategy game, TacTiki. Up for nomination for the Best Abstract Game for the UKGE awards, 2 players will be flexing their stunning miniatures for a test on memory.

Taking on the role of Polynesian Gods proving their might and worth to be the last one standing to receive worship and praise by followers on the island.

This was the quiet before the storm when it came to UK Games Expo on Sunday. Even if it is raining outside, there are still loads of folks coming along to the show to enjoy themselves and have some fun!

Whether you want to take a look at some classic Greater Than Games titles such as Spirit Island or Kill Doctor Lucky, or check out some of their newer games such as The Cube: Area 51, there are a whole host of demos over at their stand.

Bringing new expansions to the forefront for Spirit Island – if you have missed out on the previous promotional cards to embed into your game. The new Feather And Flame box is available on their stand – alongside many other of their awesome titles available for purchase.

There is an awesome stand here at the UK Games Expo where you can come and get your hands on some ace old school Warhammer bits and pieces.

They have old army books, codexes AND there are even some complete games and miniatures for you to snap up as well. It is worth diving in at 2-343 in Hall 2!

Pwhoar – look at that. Phalanx Games are going to be coming to Gamefound soon with their amazing game, Bretwalda. We played this recently in the studio and the video should be coming soon.

The folks at Phalanx have some amazing games in their collection as well! Make sure to check out their back catalogue!

We dive into a look at some of the goodness from Medusa Games. We stopped off with Richard Denning to go through the new expansion to Nine Worlds with creatures and monsters.

We also have a brand new game coming 2023 which is Oranges & Lemons based on the old nursery rhyme!

Free has made her way over to Autismo, to take a look at the educational board game title, showcasing a deeper understanding of Autism.

Providing a diverse way of playing, players will implement strategies for all to enjoy to encourage further understanding of social skills, emotions, feelings, and social engagement in a fun and colourful way!

One of the neat things from this year is that there are plenty of folks playing BIG versions of traditional board games. One of those games is from the King Of Tokyo/King Of New York game series.

I absolutely love this massive Kaiju and robots brawl. I really…really want to take those dice away with me!

Free made her way over to Aconyte Books to take a look at the whole host of books that bring more context to our favourite heroes across comic books, video games and tabletop titles.

Whether you want to enter a deeper understanding of characters in The Legend of the Five Rings, delve into the Crucible with KeyForge, or check in with the fierce heroines of Marvel. There’s plenty to choose from, so if you are alike Free and enjoy a good bit of reading – be sure to stop by to Aconyte Books for a wide range of character-focused novels. Including some early releases that are exclusive to the event!

Solar 175 is off of Kickstarter and here at UKGE. Showcasing the epic, Eurostyle legacy experience. Players will be venturing into the far future, where dystopia brings the world into chaos.

Mastering area control, worker placement and bag-building mechanics; 1-5 players will be immersed in an overarching campaign across a world in ruin 175 years after a devastating war.

Gerry heads over to see Nick, who is showcasing his massive game of RISK. Certainly no longer in the category of a tabletop game. This mammoth Napoleanic themed game combines the rules of RISK with some little sprinkles of wargaming.

Not just embiggening a game of RISK, but growing on the original concept for a fluid way to introduce clubs into the world of wargaming by showcasing a familiar title but enlarged and tweaked.

If you are a fan of My Hero Academia, the Collectible Card Game is in full force over at UKGE. Bringing the centre-stage of battle, encouraging players to fight head-to-head against formidable rivals; highlighting characters from the manga and anime series.

Party Games from Big Potato Games are always a barrel of laughs, so Justin made his way over to their stall to see what they are highlighting during UKGE.

With a sneak peek into some brand new games that are not even released, including Chicken vs Hotdog, Sounds Fishy and Shoot for the Stars. Plus, if you want your chance to get hold of some of their previous bestsellers including Snakesss and What Next? – they will be for sale at a special rate at the stand over the course of the weekend.

Justin has made his way over to PWork Wargames, as they showcase their whole host of designs of gaming accessories with highly detailed graphic design and artwork, and intricate detail.

This year, they have bought along a full range of products – including some new releases. Including a mat perfect for the likes of Necromunda, in a whole host of shapes and sizes to fit onto your table. Plus a ton of MDF terrain for the perfect visual representation of warfare.

There are a whole host of tabletop titles up for nomination for the UKGE Awards. Showcasing the best within our industry over the last year, with the hottest titles across, board, card, miniatures and roleplaying games.

Which games stand out to you in each category? Think you can guess who will be the winners?

The one place where nobody bats an eyelid if a Dalek scoots past is a convention. Free and Ben were shaken up by a roaming Darth Vader, and there’s been a predator on the loose ticking off its next target.

Whether it be companies showcasing their weapons and armour wares, or simply just roaming around as the best big bad. You are sure to find a Uruk on the loose looking for their next meal, and a Doctor time travelling their way across UKGE.

We have returned to Rubicon Models this year at UKGE, as Justin takes a look at their stand, as they showcase some of the latest releases such as the Viet Cong and the US Marine Core debuting at the event, plus a selection of Germans, Brits and Americans as troops and vehicles for sale during the event.

Plus they are offering a cheeky little discount for those attending the event – with 20% off all stock.

These folks have been doing some great work when it comes to wargaming terrain. You can dive into some great 3D printing goodness with them.

They have great terrain for Sci-Fi gaming including Warhammer 40,000. PLUS, you can also throw in some Space Hulk bits too.

Japanime Games are known for their tabletop titles which always feature the most popular anime and manga heroes. Featuring titles that include Cowboy Beebop, Attack On Titan, and Tokyo Ghoul.

Taking the tabletop to the centre of Japan, attendees can get stuck into a wide variety of games, including getting involved in some demos to playtest and try out the newest and hottest titles from Japanime Games.

Cerberus Studios have some absolutely fantastic miniatures in their collection that would be amazing for painters and hobbyists out there.

As well as their amazing miniatures, the folks at Cerberus are also working away on a game that SHOULD be coming to the convention next year. Maybe even sooner! Watch out for that!

There have been so many adorable and cute creations over at UKGE this year, and one that has really made our eyes sparkle (predominately Free and Justin!) was Gelatinous Cute.

Keeping your gaming accessories tidy, these resin creatures will keep your dice safe from further harm, whether it be via dice holder or dice tray.

Check out the folks from Tinkerbot Games who have dived into a brand new game that expands on the gameplay and world of Ghostel that you might remember from a few years ago.

The new game is Haunticulture which is coming to Kickstarter in the near future. Monsters doing gardening, how awesome!

If you’re diving into some D&D then you might want to dive in and pick up some brilliant new dice and accessories to aid your favourite roleplaying hero.

It is almost a bit of a shame that these folks aren’t actually selling cheese. I kinda wish that there were cheese dice. Maybe you could win the Dice Booster and Dragon Tray though!

Although we have been showcasing the incredible cosplay across the show when we bump into them and their alter egos! Feeling intimidated by the Sith lurking across the walkways, each cosplayer signed up for the festivities and was bought onto the OTT Stage for all to gander at their incredible creations.

Well, how about some bracers like Justin? Do they suit him or should we be thinking about getting him into even more gear just to cover things?

What is a home without a dragon to bring a watchful eye across each room and across the hallways? Karrak brings a whole host of stunning reality breaking accessories and books to keep you filled with fantasy.

Products include a selection of books including The Ascension of Karrak, plus you’ll be able to pick up some book ends, tankards, skulls, dragons and the eggs they have hatched!

We went beyond Dockfighters and talked with the team at 3D Art Lab and Spartans Unleashed about some more of the games that they are showing off at the show.

These folks have some seriously good stuff for you to check out beyond what we saw earlier!

Archon Studio are no slouch when it comes to games. They have been releasing a whole bunch of stuff over the last wee while including the awesome Wolfenstein board game.

But, we also had a look at the epic collection of Masters Of The Universe goodness that they had to share with folks as well.

Want to dive into something a little bit different? Check out the pop up Wonderbook from the folks at dVgames which is a fantastic way to dive into a tabletop adventure with some younger adventurers.

You might remember Naylor Games from last year. Well, they are here pitching their new card game which is Board Game, The Board Game, The Card Game – it’s quite fun and is very, very meta!

Make sure to take a closer look at the game which might get you chuckling away at the various jokes they have dropped into this one. Oh, and you can dive into some city building with Magnate too!

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me! Well, that’s what springs to mind when “YOHO” is the title of the game. And that is exactly what Sabrewolf want you to think. Abbreviated from “You Only Hang Once”.

Brining a card game of deceit to UKGE, players are headed into a cutthroat environment across the high seas pointing fingers at the other members aboard the ship; as thieves of the stolen treasure.

This may well be yourself, racking in the gold and blaming it all on somebody else. The goal of the game is simple, rake in all of that gold by leaving the ship fully stocked, and avoid walking the plank for your dirty duties!

The folks at Alley Cat Games make some brilliant little options for tabletop gamers to get stuck into. If you like cats then you can pick up Kittins and Catstronauts, the second of which is new!

They also created games like Dice Hospital and more which would be perfect for those diving into something a bit more chill at the tabletop. Oh, and Tinderblox!

There is more than TacTiki over on the Drawlab stall, bringing a whole host of tabletop goodies including different game titles including, Say What, Alice In Wordland and Witless Wizards.

Alongside the board game titles they are showcasing at the event, players will also find a wide variety of the legendary coins – looking specifically at season 7. And a range of boxed MDF scenery to implement into your fantasy titles.

Dive in and pick up some fantastic terrain from the folks at Battle Systems for you to use in your roleplaying games or perhaps something more skirmish based as well.

If you missed the folks at the UK Games Expo then you can dive in and check them out online. They are going to be diving into a Fantasy game called Maladum soon! Oh and comment to win that Chapel set!

PSC Games have been showcasing a whole host of tabletop titles at UKGE. If you didn’t get a chance to stop by, they were hosting their historically themed board games via demos and purchase over in Hall 2.

With their enthusiasm for strategy, Blitzkrieg! & Caesar! are taking centre stage with their “in 20 minutes” titles, alongside Rome & Roll and The Defence of Procyon III.

The folks at SlugFest Games are showing off one of their brand new games, Dungeon Decorators. In this tile-laying game, you’re going to be decorating a dungeon for some malevolent overlord.

They are also showing off their classic release, The Red Dragon Inn. This one is REALLY good fun!

If you are looking to get your hands on some amazing wargaming terrain or perhaps something for your dioramas then you NEED to check out Gaugemaster Controls Ltd.

They are selling some stunning terrain which would be brilliant for those who don’t want to “do it yourself”. Why do that when you can get your hands on some amazing terrain from these folks?

They DO also sell all of the bits for making your own stuff. If you were so inclined!

If you’re wanting to find a great roleplaying game then you need to check out Free League Publishing. There are SO many roleplaying games that you can dive into here.

You could play MORK BORG, The One Ring, Tales From The Loop and a whole bunch of others. You could even pick up the first of their games, Mutant Chronicle. Maybe even some Symbaroum?

The folks at Warlord Games could not be missed. So, we caught up with them to talk about Combined Arms and all of the new games and miniatures that they have to give away.

In addition to talking about their new releases, you folks can dive in and win yourself a copy of the game AND that neat German Halftrack set as well for Bolt Action.

A neat indie option for you with the folks at S C Games. We have a look at their games including Tile Tactics and then something a little bit more fantastic with the folks at Knights Of NorthRnd.

There are some great games from the folks from Themeborne this year. Escape The Dark Castle and Escape The Dark Sector are some amazing games for you to dive into. If you like old school artwork with modern mechanics – give them a look!

You also have a chat about Strike HQ and what the future holds for this fantastic Historical card game.

Everybody loves a really silly game and that’s exactly what Full Sauna is all about. Make sure to check out this game packed out with colourful characters – all render in amazing artwork.

This is a quick and easy card game which introduces a lot of combos into the mix. Check it out on Kickstarter!

We revisit the folks at Shadowborne to learn more about their fantasy game, Oathsworn: Into The Deepwood. The miniatures are amazing and they have done a sterling job with this as they move to fulfil via Kickstarter.

They also have plans for more games in the future so watch out!
