Confrontation Lives Again

Check this out...
For those miniatures collectors who cried when Rackham shut down, taking all their fantastic miniatures with them, you can dry your eyes.
Legacy Miniatures will soon be relaunching the Confrontation miniatures range!
Here's one of the first releases the Flesh Golem! This guy didn't make it to release before Rackham closed its doors but he's now set to make his debut.
Hopefully we can also expect to see such beautiful sculpts as these re-released...
Pick your jaws off the floor and put those eyes back in their sockets, lock your wallet away or file for divorce.
Here's some more info:
Legacy Miniatures is excited to announce that they have secured the license to the entire Confrontation back catalog, and will immediately start producing previously released and unreleased figures from this amazing and sorely missed miniatures line.
Confrontation was a game published by Rackham Entertainment until it entered liquidation in 2009, and some of the most amazing 28mm figures in the world ceased to be available at that time. Cyanide Studios, a prominent French video game developer, has acquired the Confrontation IP and has licensed the miniatures to Legacy Miniatures.
"We're incredibly pleased", said Vincent Fontaine Artistic Director of Legacy Miniatures and former Paint Director of Rackham Entertainment. "We're starting out slowly and doing about 2 to 4 releases a month, some miniatures that never saw production before Rackham closed its doors."
Working exclusively with CoolMiniOrNot, these "new" releases and re-releases of old favorites will first be avaliable at Gencon 2011 Indy, with the never before seen Hydra and the rare Flesh Golem making their debut. The plan currently is to produce limited runs, these incredibly hot miniatures will be sure to sell out fast!
"Obviously we're thrilled", said David Doust, co-founder of Cool Mini Or Not. "Although we handle beautiful miniatures every day, there is something special about Confrontation. We're looking forward to helping bring these miniatures back to life."

OMG …OMG….OMG !!! Some of those miniatures are amongst the best that have ever been made ! so cool to have them back again/ new ones !
hopefully they get Paul Bonner to do artwork for them ^^
I just… Oh my…
After this painter’s orgasm, I have to say that there has been a void in the miniature market for a game and a range such as the former Rackham range… Now it is fullfilled again, and so am I.
BoW Romain
I’m not sure the game is coming up. I hope so, but the fact the announcement says ‘has licensed the miniatures to Legacy Miniatures.’ makes me think it’s going to be a painters range.
I bloody well hope I’m wrong though, C3 was brilliant.
C3 was brilliant?
It still is.
Just cos the big R decided to commit ritual suicide doesn’t mean the game is any worse than it ever was. And it was quite outstanding.
I agree… Although I’ve never played it, I know quite a few people who never stopped playing Confrontation in France.
BoW Romain
Good for them. No, really. I always think it’s a shame to abandon perfectly good games just because the current marketing hype for something else shouts louder. We gamers are a fickle bunch on the whole, and ever looking for the next and more shiny toy. Perhaps sometimes we would be better off with what we’ve already got than what’s newer. C3 is a great example. How many companies have been offering better models than this since R topped themselves?
Opponents are always the problem here, though you only need one…

Thats fantastic news.
I still rate the master of carnage I have the very best sculpt I own.
Replying to myself (first sign of madnesss maybe?)
Now I have more time to read the site, rather than a 5 minute ‘oooh goody’ moment
For those that are not aware of the range, the master of carnage is actually in the middle picture in the above article, the middle mini, green armour and a sword on each arm.
In the flesh, its a stunning mini, and I have never seen a better one at this scale.
FINALLYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, would this be a good news? 😛
Only ever heard mention of Confrontation as I think I started gaming just after they went belly up. Had no idea as to the style or quality
Some interesting looking models. So actually, this is bad news…
for the wallet! Yet more mini goodness temptations! lol
I just woke up to seeing this (after all going to BoW is the first thing any gamer should do) and this is what I see. I have no words to say Im shaking from disbelief. I never thought I’d see confrontation again. I spoke to a friend just yesterday about how much I loved the line and missed it so. He felt the same. After I type this I need to call him about the good news. As you can tell Im a true fan and always will be.
Best news for a long time, just got involved with Rackham games when they started this prepainted stuff which I wasn’t really fond of.
Hopefully they’ll also relaunch the rules…
One last thing, thumbs up for all! Its a baby boy! Cigars for all!
Please please tell me the game is soon to fallow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be great to play Confrontation with some more people. And maybe have a company that puts it out that will listen to customers.
I don’t know what game u peeps are talkin bout, but i’d jst get em to put on my shelf they are so cool 😀
I held mt first old Rackham model only about a month ago, and was immediatly trying to buy it off the owner but he wouldn’t let go. Ecstatic knowing I can just get them new soon, I think that flesh golem might be first now though
Epic wolf man! Castle Golem! I think I am in love!
@caladors, the castle golem is the famous Demon Tower… Large and metal, it’s a special unit for goblins in the game, and a diorama all of its own ! The imagery is very vivid and there’s plenty of details everywhere… I own one. I never got the guts to paint it as it should.
BoW Romain
You should do a 3-up of the Demon Tower. I might propose to you if you did. Just kidding guys….( I’ll talk to you later about the proposal when the video is set up) (in whispered voice) 😛
If only… Sadly, painting for a camera isn’t the most confortable thing in the world, and I can’t paint quite as well as I could when I paint like that. It’s good enough for tutorials, though.
I would be very sad not to be able to paint such a mini as well as I can !
Also, such a video on such a big and complex model would last… Weeks. And that would be the edited version.
But do not despair, you’ll be able to paint your own Demon Tower up to very exacting standards in no time by studying my videos for other minis : A 3 colors up isn’t a recipe to follow for one single miniature, and a good thing too.
BoW Romain
Romain, I always liked your style of painting and found the 3 up videos helpful to us less experienced painters.
I thought the Demon Tower was for the Mid-Nor Dwarfs…………..
You’re right, I was misled by the goblin-like creatures on top… But the pupet is definitely Mid Nor !
BoW Romain
FINALLY!!! but im still hopeing to see a relaunch of AT-43 more!
agreed 🙂 hoping tons
Very nice – lovely minis and amazing paint jobs too.
Here’s hoping they not only relaunch the rules, but also produce more of the same, models wise.
Yeah! Cool Wolfen again!
Yes! I was gutted when the shut down, now I can collect the Wolfen :’)
Andy, you made my day with this!
so i wonder who has at-43. thats the announcement im waiting for
@monly – my pleasure big man!
I tell you what, I have a massive box of unopened blisters from Rackham (I’m a hopeless confrontation addict!).
If this post gets (say) 10 thumbs up, I’ll unbox some on camera, just for old times sake.
The power is in your hands people!
how he tries to leach karma ! …but …well …ok have it here is my thumb for you ! better be good what you unbox ! 😛
The last thing I need is karma… 😀
But I do want to unbox stuff… get your vote in if you want to see some!
Go on Andy, unbox us some quality 🙂
if we hit 50 he is going to raffle some of the stuff *wink wink* 😛
He’s more generous than he knows 🙂
yay!!!
I am so happy! I am so looking forward to finally getting my hands on more of the wolfen and other cool models they made. Really want that demon tower for my abyssal dwarves.
Fab news… sadly these are so much more awesome than the PPP range they may make my current selection look a bit sad
This is the best news I’ve heard in years, on the miniatures front.
This better not be some cruel joke! Maybe now I can get my hands on some of the models I missed out on when Rackham closed their doors.
Btw who else is looking at this and saying hey There is my new Korne Demon Prince, My new Purebreed Warpwolf and maybe down the bottom thats a little Skorne guy? I don’t know Charly but it sounds like an idea to me
I was so happy until I read the line about limited runs. Why would they do that to us? It should be a crime to tease everyone by bringing back such an amazing range and then making them limited.
Clearly they are just putting a toe into the water to see whether it’s full of piranhas. Releasing it via CMON pretty much tells us that it’s a painter/collector release and I would be (very pleasantly) surprised if a re-release for the game was on the horizon any time soon. But we can dream. If we all shout really loud, you never know what’ll happen.
The replies on this post make me smile inside. Just feel the love for this outstanding range of models.
Holy shatpank! That Flesh Golem has skulls for finger-nails!!! DO WANT!
Best news in a loooong time. I’ll finally be able to buy things i miss for my Sessiars and Griffons.
Andy, please do the unboxing… pretty please… with cherry on top. 😀
All I can say is ” It’s about time! “
Ok someone please tell me what that miniature is far left in the 2nd picture.. the castley golem looking guy.. that may be the coolest mini I’ve ever seen and I want one.
@sigmar13, see my comment above… It’s the Demon Tower !
BoW Romain
That sir is for the Mid-Nor dwarves. AKA stitchies. It’s literally a mini castle.
Sweeeet!
Woohoo!!!
need I say more?
If this means I can get those fantastic Chthonian Larva miniatures – I’m happy. I wonder if they did any more lovecraftian miniatures too…ill have to wait and see..
I’d love them to re-release Irul. He hardly had a release in the first place (sporadically available Mail Order only from France, IIRC), and I have the rest of the Daikinee models.
Just bring back everything Rackham did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Need to play more Confrontation and AT43. Ooooo and how about Hybred. Some of the most awesome minis ever.
Aye, Hybrid is arguably better than Space Hulk. Personally, I find it to have way more flavor …
This could be some of the best hobby news of the year. I just hope all that limited runs nonsense is just a temporary solution to test the grounds and gather some start-up capital. I honestly hope a full-fledged release plan is somewhere down the road.
And please learn something from Rackham and leave the crappy plastic be.
By the way the Flesh Golem was released and I have him. This was part of their Legends line of resin pieces. There was plans to release a Karman from AT-43 in this line before the plug was pulled. I’m all for some unboxing and keep us posted on any further news.
This is fantastic news for me. I was going to get into Confrontation just before they went with the pre-paint. Of course they did not have Mid-Nor dwarves for it and looked like the never would. So I never got into last version. I really want that demon tower and there were a bunch of Mid-nor I was never able to get.
I……. must…… have……. a……. DEMON……. TOWER………. my Mid-Nor collection will kill me if I don’t get them one……. LOL
Oh bugger…. no edit button!!!!
Just a note – you can find the C3 cards here:
http://underthemountain.wordpress.com/athenaeum/aarklash-archive/bibliotheca/confrontation/c3-cards/
BTW re cards he took them down whilst waiting for ok from new IP holders
Cards went back up yesterday!!
Actually the flesh golem was released as a resin limited Rackham Legends model. It had alternate heads.
see : http://forums.ttgamers.com/forums/yaf_postst1365_New-Legends-resin-figs.aspx
I’ve got one at home :
http://necrophiludique.blogspot.com/2011/03/golem-de-chair-pour-caor.html
It was one of the last Rackham Legend figure available at different places on the web. I can’t wait for Belial being re-released, even Molochs or a Griffin rider. Belial is so rare and expensive that I thought I would never be able to get it. This gives me hope.
On the other hand I have to disagree with people who think C3 was briliant. The game necessitated a lot of retro engineering, balancing and became overly complex. It should never be commercialised again without a solid rework. The french community produced an alternate rule system called AdeS which retains a lot of C3’s charm and principles but is clearer and a bit less complex. This would probably be a good base for any company wishing to release a new set of rules for “Confrontation”.
Confrontation was indeed fairly complex, and that was partly what I liked about it. The game contrasted with the simplicity of Warmachine, Alkemy, Anima Tactics, Twilight, HellDorado and so on, and sometimes that extra level of detail was what I wanted. Sometimes it was all a bit much, though the simpler games do lose a mass of potential for cunning plans and, often, a degree of depth and replayability.
It’s horses for courses though. I’ve never seen AdeS, and I imagine it was never translated into English. Anyone know for sure?
Well actually AdeS ( http://escarmouche.over-blog.fr/ ) has only been translated in spanish which will probably not be of any help.
You have to realise that people who enjoy such complex games are a niche within a niche. And I would not mention Hell Dorado as a very simple game : it is already a quite complex game system (easy to learn – hard to master) but it has a better conception. Anyway the main issue of C3 was not really the complexity of the rules but the way they were written and organised and the lack of control regarding the evolution of game balance due to a powergaming oriented marketing. It resulted in a game being difficult to learn AND to master for many people and many complaints about rulings and balance.
Understand me : I really like this game and I want its eventual relaunch to be a success ;o)
