Red Box Games Launches Nordic Warrior Kickstarter
January 14, 2014 by brennon
Red Box Games admit freely that Kickstarter has been a bit of a dig in the ribs for them over the past couple of years, but they are back with a simple fundraiser to help fund six new Norse/Njorn Miniatures.
As you can see the figures are already finished and the money from the fundraiser is going towards the production of them along with distribution. Red Box are keeping this deliberately low key as to avoid any complications and hopefully folk will have their miniatures as soon as possible after the Kickstarter.
Red Box Games make some awesome figures and each of these is looking just as bad ass as you'd imagine. My favourite has to be Weglaf (centre bottom) with his steely determination and that awesome hammer.
Will you be pledging?
Red Box games is now getting out of the woods it got lost in a while back… The sculpts are always excellent and so is the quality of the figures and casting. One of the reasons why the previous rewards weren’t all sent on time was that Tre Manor refused to lower his standards ! I have pledged in all of his crowdfunding campaigns, and I am a returning customer : it’s worth it ! 🙂
He does make some awfully pretty minis….
Did he run the goblin campaign again after he cancelled it? If he did it passed me by. Those goblin minis are lovely and at some point will hit my gaming table in a God of Battles greenskins army.
He did, it’s been funded, and I’ve received my pledge. Those goblins and orcs look great ! 🙂
Goddammit lol. Guess I’ll just have to order them direct.
Red Box make superb miniatures. If there was one thing that could tempt me back into fantasy miniatures, it would be these.
I for one think it’s a shame they’re “true scale” 28mm, evne though that makes them exquisitely detailed… A lot more gamers would buy them if they were heroic scale, as they’d make fantastic characters to be inserted in the most widespread wargames (GW and PP, I’m looking at you). As they are, they can only be used for RPGs and perhaps SAGA.
Whilst not constituting the most widespread wargames, they could certainly be used in a game like Kings of War. That range has a mix of true and heroic scale minis. As already mentioned, I would use them in God of Battles, which allows for almost any fantasy range to be used. I’ve got half a dozen different ranges in my GoB armies and there’s a place for those Red Box minis in amongst them.
Very true ! I’ve spoken with Jake Thornton about the uses of Tre Manor’s miniatures and their (unfortunately low) availability in Europe. He says they’re tempting him for just that sort of game, and he’s not the only one… Red Box has been doing small units (with more modularity, including alternate weapons) instead of individual miniatures as of late, this could be a reason why.
He runs an Orc & Goblin army for GoB (played against it just last week) and I know he’s got his on Tre’s goblins for it.
*his eye
So I hear ! 🙂
In any case, those norse look cool…
You’re absolutely right about the scale. However, I wouldn’t want to use them alongside other fantasy miniatures because I really don’t like fantasy miniatures right now. The prevailing aesthetic in fantasy these days, is just not what I like at all. Red Box Games may well the only manufacturer that makes fantasy miniatures I’d be willing to buy, but that’s just me.
I see exactly what you mean ! 🙂
I for one can only recall a handful of people that can do fantasy like him, such as Imbrian Arts.
