Community Spotlight: Bounty Hunters, Classic Warhammer & Old Armies
July 2, 2025 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We'll be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Grimdark Bounty Hunters by alfonsothetraitor
We start this week looking at what alfonsothetraitor has been working on recently. They dove into a bit of Necromunda recently and some of their latest painting projects focused on dashing characters from the Underhive and namely Kal Jericho and his companion, Scabs.
I have always liked Kal Jericho and he was one of the miniatures I always wanted to pick up back in the day. This is one of the classic miniatures representing Kal Jericho, pistols at the ready, as he gets into all sorts of scrapes. I really like that the miniature maintains the style of the character and matches up well with old artwork.
Scabs looks equally good and whilst not as dashing as his companion, he looks like he could handle himself in the darkness of the Underhive, where everyone is trying to get one over on their "companions". I particularly like the basing for these Necromunda miniatures as well, which sells the down-and-dirty vibe.
It is worth having a peek at what else alfonsothetraitor has been doing recently, as there is plenty of Necromunda terrain for you to dig into. Some creatures for use in Necromunda were also picked up via Flying Frog Productions to throw some spanners into the works during campaigns.
Classic Empire by hpdandy
Next up, we're having a look at more classic Games Workshop but this time for Warhammer Fantasy Battles. hpdandy wanted to revive a classic army for the Spring Clean Hobby Challenge and in this case, it was an old Empire army.
This started out as an army project back when hpdandy was younger, and so nearly everything in the collection needed to be repainted and updated to match their current set of skills. It's very cool to be able to see these old miniatures getting a new lick of paint on their lovely square bases.
This was started thirty-five years ago! Most of the miniatures had also been painted three or four times! It's a nice trip back in time and seems like this is going to be nudging hpdandy towards painting up more of their classic Warhammer collection until it's all done! No mean feat!
hpdandy has mentioned that the Spring Clean Hobby Challenge has guided them towards wanting to keep this project going. More Oldhammer armies await, including Chaos (Warriors and Daemons), Beastmen, Undead, Dark Elves and Skaven. I am excited to see what happens and this has been a glorious reminder of my first Warhammer Fantasy Battles army that also happened to be Empire!
Old Armies Revisited by HobbyBrush
Last but not least, we're delving back into the work by HobbyBrush, who has been bringing a whole host of old unfinished projects to completion and getting them ready for the tabletop. A lot of these miniatures come from very different genres, worlds and periods, but it's all in aid of battling the backlog and finishing off more miniatures from the pile of potential.
This is a brilliant mixture of different miniatures from a host of Numidians to some fierce Romans looking to combat said foes. You'll also note some glorious Elephants that were painted recently who might be just what you need when combating the forces of Rome who have come to invade your home and take all your stuff.
Again, this project was urged on by the Spring Clean Hobby Challenge and here you can see that even if the things your painting are different, it all helps to battle the pile of potential and therefore make room for new miniatures! This set goes all the wilder with a nice automobile and some fearsome Middle-earth inspired Trolls who look eager to batter down the gates of Minas Tirith.
I commend HobbyBrush for just going for it and painting up whatever they could, given the time they had. You'll also note some Halfling cavalry in the middle of this final image as well as the bust, which we've previously noted. This is inspiring me to crack out more of my esoteric, odd, forgotten miniatures and get them painted up for the tabletop.
