Community Spotlight: Tiny Airborne Troops, Crisis Protocol Villains & Sharpe’s Squad!
March 26, 2025 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We'll be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
12mm Airborne by grantinvanman
We start off this week's Community Spotlight with a look at the work that grantinvanman has been doing when it comes to building up a great 12mm World War II force from the range by Victrix Miniatures.
Painting at this scale is always a an interesting one and it's neat seeing what ways people approach painting these smaller miniatures. The benefit of some of the miniatures here is that the sprues attach via the bases so you've got plenty of space for you to paint the miniatures themselves and not mess with your scheme once it comes time to snip them off. grantinvanman has done a superb job with these as well, working on the glorious camouflage of the Airborne for the British.
A bunch of testing has been done with these miniatures before the final scheme was settled on and I think it looks fantastic when you see it from a "gamer's eye view". Just the right amount of detail has been pulled out of these miniatures with the schemes and I think it's a great way to get a load of awesomeness on the tabletop very quickly.
The first batch of miniatures has been capped off and I really like the vibe of the basing as well. A solid set of British soldiers for use in World War II wargames.
Make sure to dive into the rest of the project and explore more of the work that grantinvanman has been doing. Maybe you'll end up using some of their techniques on your own 12mm miniatures.
Marvel: Crisis Protocol by ugleb
Next up, we're going to be exploring a bunch of miniatures from the very opposite end of the spectrum. Rather than going small, ugleb has been working on a range of 40mm miniatures from Marvel: Crisis Protocol and doing a bloody great job at that.
I was particularly taken by ugleb's painting for Omega Red. I think the work on the red armour here is brilliant but I was drawn to the way that works so well with the pale skin and the hair which has been done to match the version of the character I know so well from reading comic books. I think this look is brilliant and it's a fantastic villain for a bit of Marvel: Crisis Protocol.
Next up, we have a look at Cassandra Nova who has also been painted up by ugleb as another villain of the piece, tied to Charles Xavier.
With the fact that Cassandra is linked to Charles so closely, ugleb decided to paint her up in a way that matches the clothing that you might expect Xavier to be rolling around in. I think that's a brilliant idea. The pink power oozing from her is also great and I like that you've also got the glow coming through from her eyes as well. A good showing of power!
I am also a big fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy and so it was fun to see that ugleb also recently worked on the Daughters Of Thanos and Gamora here.
Again, the painting is brilliant and I think that ugleb has done a superb job on this miniatures and the rest. You should go and dive into the project to see the rest of their work. Last year, ugleb also worked on more of the Guardians of the Galaxy and I think you'll enjoy diving into their work.
The Silver Bayonet by draconis
Last but not least, we're delving back into the world of The Silver Bayonet and the work that draconis has been doing to bring this game to life. They have been working away on a bunch of British and French miniatures so that a couple of warbands can come together alongside a host of monsters and more.
The Silver Bayonet continues to be that game that helps to bridge the gap between those diving into Historical wargames but through the lens of Pulp Horror. I think you get to have a lot of fun with the kitbashing as well as conversions, paint schemes and the stories that then go with these miniatures. draconis has been doing this with his characters here.
You can't ignore Sharpe when it comes to Napoleonics and so it was good to see this mounted version of him getting added into the mix. He looks great and it's a solid use of the Wargames Atlantic set.
As well as these fellows, draconis has also been working away on some great painting for the French. Because The Silver Bayonet only has you painting a handful of miniatures, you can actually spend that little bit more time working on the uniforms for the likes of the French and the British in The Silver Bayonet.
This is a great look into bringing together a range of miniatures for use in The Silver Bayonet and it's a reminder for a lot of people to maybe give this a go. I also need to make a note that draconis gets a gold star for rimming his skirmish game bases in brown. This is the way.

Congrats to @ugleb those are some awesome MCP, and @draconis – awesome project!
Thanks for checking out my project.
And well done to @ugleb and @grantinvanman, excellent work!
Cheers all!
painting on sprue? Oh nooooooooooooooes!
It divided me! But in the end, there was lots of room. Otherwise, I would mount them all on nails, individually. Some of the 8th Army had to be done like that.
