Trench Crusade by MiniatureBrushwork

We start off this week with a look at what MiniatureBrushwork has been working on for the excellent Indie success of the end of 2024 and beginning of 2025, Trench Crusade. MiniatureBrushwork has been painting up some of the lovely miniatures for the Iron Sultanate and showcasing their skills!

Iron Sultanate #1 by miniaturebrushwork

What's nice about the Iron Sultanate is that whilst everything else in Trench Crusade is, for the most part, covered in mud, grime, blood and plenty of other fluids, these miniatures add a flash of colour. I think the gold looks great on these miniatures alongside lots of bright colours like the reds, whites and the purple for the alchemical beasts.

Iron Sultanate #2 by miniaturebrushwork

I was particularly drawn to the painting of those alchemically warped beasts and the Brazen Bull (below). I think the mix of pinks and purples works really well against the gold and I think the work on the musculature as a whole is just spot on. This is just gorgeous.

Iron Sultanate #3 by miniaturebrushwork

Considering that a lot of people went for the likes of the Trench Pilgrims or the Heretic Legions and didn't consider the Iron Sultanate (like me), this might end up being something that changes minds and gets more people excited about the faction. The idea is that with a few more core troops, the Starter Force will be ready to go for some campaigns of Trench Crusade.

Templar Tomb by Liammck1745

Next up, we're diving into a bit of Historical hobby and this brilliant Templar Tomb and Medieval Church diorama from Liammck1745 who always does something fascinating with their terrain.

Medieval Church Diorama #1 by Liammck1745

The idea behind the diorama is that is a reconstruction of a Medieval Church at Ardrossan in Ayrshire, Scotland. This is where the stone sarcophagus of a Templar was dug up in 1912 and so Liammck1745 looked to rework an older diorama and bring in plenty of 3D printed parts alongside loads of foam and balsa wood to recreate an iconic scene from way back when.

Medieval Church Diorama #2 by Liammck1745

Liammck1745's work is, as always, brilliant and I love the attention to detail across all aspects of the piece. I think the work on the paintings on the wall of the church are spot on and really feel like the kind of art that you see in these old buildings. You've also got that so-accurate-it-hurts flooring which looks incredibly realistic and I can already sense that familiar smell of old churches at National Trust/English Heritage locations.

Medieval Church Diorama #3 by Liammck1745

The actual figures look brilliant as well. They are just part of the larger scene but they work so well and I love the white done on the Templars in particular. What's nice is that this diorama went for a walkabout as well, so if you'd like to see this piece at the North Ayrshire Heritage Centre in the place where the sarcophagus currently resides, you can do so!

Sci-Fi Bug Hunts by denzien

Last but not least, we've got a battle report or two from denzien. They have been playing through Five Parsecs From Home and enjoying the Bug Hunt scenarios from the game. This is a big solo playthrough of the campaign using some excellent miniatures with an Alien twist in order to play this campaign.

Five Parsecs From Home #1 by denzien

These figures have come from denzien's collection of Alien IP-related awesomeness, so I sense a bit of "old" Prodos in the mix for both the Marines and the deadly Aliens that are looking to snack on them. It helps that the terrain also fits the theme and there's plenty here to help make interesting scenarios!

Five Parsecs From Home #2 by denzien

In classic battle report form, denzien has gone through each of the scenarios and explained the set-up for them, the objective they are trying to achieve and also some breakdowns of all the key moments as the game(s) unfold. This is also backed up by some great action photography showing off how the solo gaming is going!

Five Parsecs From Home #3 by denzien

What's nice is that this is a warts-and-all-style affair for denzien, who has no fear of showing when a scenario doesn't go to plan and the aliens come out on top! It's good to see the ups and downs of solo wargaming and having to try and tackle the sometimes brutal scenarios that you find yourself tested by. I won't spoil anything more but you should certainly dive in and read through the various scenarios that denzien has played to see how they're going.
