The War in the Willows by hutch

We start off with a bit of Burrows & Badgers as hutch has taken their newest terrain project for TerrainFest and used it for the backdrop of some Burrows & Badgers skirmishing on the tabletop. Heading into the Cedarwood Forest, we have a wonderful collection of characters painted by hutch to use as part of a new campaign.

War in the Willows #1 by hutch

I was really taken by what hutch was doing here, and not just because I'm a fan of Burrows & Badgers. I really liked the effort that had gone into painting the miniatures, of course, but also the background for the characters, explaining their statistics in the game and also the lovely photography.

War in the Willows #2 by hutch

The miniatures have been painted up really nicely and I love that they, at the same time, pop (like the Fox above) but also feature some very nice, earthy colours. I think it works very well and gives off some lovely Saturday Morning Cartoon vibes, akin to Animals of Farthing Wood or Redwall.

I really like this start to the campaign for this band of companions from the Cedarwood Forest amongst Maverick's Misfits. As well as all of the lovely miniatures, you can also dive into some great background and lore for each of the characters, giving you an idea of how they are likely going to behave when they finally take to the tabletop.

Planet of the Apes by jeffersonpowers

Next up, we're checking out the work by jeffersonpowers who is a massive fan of Planet of the Apes. They recently got their hands on the Planet of the Apes Roleplaying Game and wanted to get it painted up so it looked nice when it finally hit the tabletop for a session or two.

Planet of the Apes #1 by jeffersonpowers

jeffersonpowers was happy with the final look of the miniatures from the campaign that they backed and so wanted to get them all painted up and ready for some games that were creeping up on them. I think the work on the human survivors and the apes themselves look excellent. A quick and easy scheme using Speedpaint to get the job done.

Planet of the Apes #2 by jeffersonpowers

I like that jeffersonpowers didn't just go about painting the miniatures and then showing the results, they also talked about some of the pitfalls of trying to rush through a project. Speedpaint was a great answer to their problem but you do have to know how to use the tool effectively, or it could end up turning into something of a mishap if you're not careful.

With that being said, jeffersonpowers did end up getting a game in!

Planet of the Apes #3 by jeffersonpowers

You can see a breakdown of the game and how it went for the group over on the project. As you'll note here, some figures from the Star Schlock collection made an appearance, which was nice to see. I am eager to see more from this game, as I wasn't even aware someone had done a Planet of the Apes roleplaying game! Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Warhammer Quest: Darkwater by tuffyears

Last but not least, we're checking out what tuffyears has been doing. They have powered through Warhammer Quest: Darkwater and done a sterling job on the miniatures. I'm still only about half way through and so I was pleased to see someone tackling it so well!

Darkwater #2 by tuffyears

The miniatures have been painted up with those good ol' Speed/Contrast Paints and the final result for the miniatures is great, carrying across the dirty and grubby look that you'd expect from a ruin that has been overrun by the powers of Nurgle. The characters have been blasted through alongside lots of the elite and basic troops.

Darkwater #1 by tuffyears

I hope this means that tuffyears is going to get the chance to dive in and get some games of Darkwater played sooner rather than later. With all of the miniatures done and dusted, it's time to break out the game book and get playing. I suppose the real question is, which characters are going to get played first?

Darkwater #3 by tuffyears

Darkwater featured a great selection of miniatures that are really fun to paint. The characters are all awesome and the Nurgle miniatures look brilliant, especially for those who want to explore painting different textures. A mighty fine project!
