Happy Sunday CoGs OTTers and Backstagers!
Too much hobby is barely enough! I have 2 months off and at the end of week 1 I’ve paimted 40 minis and played 6 games. In the immortal words of Slainte “I did not think it too many!”
These are the days that anything is possible to find if you put your mind to finding it already made or have it created from scratch. The slop is quite separate from the artisinal when you look at the effort in production and the 80/20 rule is very much apparent. The downside is that there are so many vendors that cohesive and or coherent connections to good work is very niche. There are gyres of talent that seem to attract creative people and it is thanks in some part to the connection of the internet. As Gerry pointed out, the… Read more »
I often see a starter set that I like and when I open the box find a lot of stuff. It takes a while to clean and assemble it. It’s overwhelming. Then I prime it all and leave it out to gether dust for months… sometimes years. Overwhelming. When I buy mdf terrain I look at the pile of boards and it’s overwhelming. Eventually it gets built and then there’s covering the cut marks on the wood and basing it. Overwhelming. Buy a new boardgame and see the rules… so many pages… so many different tokens overwhelming. A new RPG.… Read more »
Feel the same way! Been a year since I last picked up a paint brush and finished a figure but I still keep buying new stuff! Been so overwhelmed that I quit even attempting to get anything done and dived into a different obsession from my childhood …. collecting Vintage Action Man! Now after a few months even that is beginning to feel overwhelming.
I had action men as a kid. They had a rough life and are long gone.
A few years back I started an N gauge railway, but I had no time for building as I was looking after parents and ended up selling the locos. May have another go at it some day and try to combine it with a Flames of War battlefield 🙂
Happy Sunday COGz an OTTers 👍😁👍
Great projects one and all. I’m really smitten with those retro spaceships
Gerry can help with the rigging then for you Ben ?🤔
no he can’t he did it already that was the deal.
When Lloyd does Rome ?😀
did all the rigging I was going to do in the Gerry-Can, it was a one time deal.
Yes it was a good video Gerry 👍
Gerry does 50 shades of brain matter beige ?
Yes block paint figures is yours friend guy’s even if it’s just 2 at a time to start things off to speed up the process for the battlefield ready game wise 👍
Rough pub Ben it’s to hide the blood ?
Happy Sunday.
Now I have the Captain Scarlet music stuck in my head.
Happy Sunday Cogs..hobby overload/whelm..this is very app to me this year has i have now decided after looking round my collection i am going to strip right back and focus on what i want to play and enjoy and say good bye to things that have been sitting there for quite a while, including board games. So has a solo player you would think that this would be easy has most games are built for two players but i fell into the trap of “CAN BE PLAYED SOLO OR CO-OP” especially board games so my shiny syndrome took over. So… Read more »

I became more of a hobby butterfly when I got a 3D printer. The ability to just get something you want so quickly is very tempting but I never get a file that I dont print. f the printer works that is. So it has made it harder for me to focus on certain ptrojects
Really interesting topic gents, I have always been a bit of a hobby butterfly but the one thing that has really helped me focus on completing something is having a deadline to work to. Either for a gaming group weekend (which is where I have been most productive) or for a specific game to be able to play a scenario with a friend. I do think that there is a lot of choice at present, and it must be difficult for small companies to get people to invest in their new game when there is so much choice. There are… Read more »
Deadlines. I’m not sure if that would make it easier for me to hobby or just add stress XD
Thanks for the golden button and the kind words. I’ve since posted some Amazons to the project, and will hopefully be playing a game of Savage Core next weekend. I’ll be sure to do a battle report and go over the gameplay basics.
Struggle to watch show these day as ps4 went wonky, just realised Picture has ~Gerry doing Captain Scarlett Impressions !
@brennon Quite a lot covered, from choice of games, analysis paralysis, hobby funk and lead mountain. Hobyig funk everyone gets, I find watching folks talking about wargames helps. Lead mountain I think your onto soething about setting a budget only spend £20 this week, trick is stick to it… To fight hobby butterfly, I have made a list in order of the projects I will work on, the top 3 I focus on this year, may get a bargin for anything else on the list or have an X entry… for that shiny game but thats it, one X a… Read more »
Choice in the hobby is great because it means we can seek out games that we truly enjoy. The downside is constant temptation to add more stuff, and the constant exposure to marketing and online stores means that it is trivially quick and easy to buy stuff anytime and from anywhere. The key to hobby happiness therefore is self restraint. Shay is doing the right thing to just stop buying and backing things for as long as possible and to give himself time to finish a big project or two before adding more. Boxes of potential tend to bring guilt… Read more »
@avernos There’s a cable chanel Talking Pictures also known as Encore TV, there showing a lot of the old Gerry Anderson and they have a website so you could let Shay know so he can sample Captain Scarlet, Stingray, Fireball XL 5 and Thunderbirds.
Congrats to the button winners, some truly great projects. Love the Pulp Scifi ships.
