First! Yaha!
A good watch for what has almost broken the presenters of their painting. I can say that the Titanforge KS Amazons army I ordered before starting the Arabian Knights was a kick in the sack for me. The back and forth to get it in hand really was what stopped me from starting on it. There were issues with the postal service and I had given up on painting anything other than display and singular RPG figs before the project took off as it did.
I know it broke you like it broke me but you didn’t mention the 2nmm project Not broken in the usual way but broken as we couldn’t handle the perfect nature of the idea
Interesting show guys. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a project break my will to finish it. I’ve abandoned many projects but I blame that mostly on my adhd to be honest.
Maybe some event to encourage finishing old projects could help there?? Silly thought.
Like a spring clean? 8)
Can’t spring clean a game in the bin
you could clean the bin.
When I first encountered 40k (when it was called ‘Rogue Trader’) I kind of wanted to do Imperial Guard. This was before hobby paints were a thing, so I got a cheap Revell Airbrush that had a can of air. To say that the paint covered the model I had it aimed at it was an understatement. So yeah … never finished that one. It didn’t help that the models themselves were next to impossible to buy back then. Second time was when 8th edition was released and I wanted to try space marines. They only need one colour for… Read more »
I want to know why the rest of the team never finished the Conquest armies they were going to build and paint.
Or at least … no one except Gerry has shown any progress on those.
Projects that broke me were sedition wars because it was utter garbage. The other was I decided to build a Samurai army and I stupidly bought the plastic Samurai from Wargames Factory. I think I managed to build a unit of 10 before deciding that these were literally the worse models I’ve even encountered. I promptly put all the boxes on Ebay and sold the lot to another poor unsuspecting fool….
No project has ever broke me, but I did back Zombieside black plague, and got so much stuff I’m not sure what to do with it. I’m lothed to sell it but there’s so much stuff I’ll never use it.

Happy Sunday.
Seeing those giant crabs, I had the thought that should you be basing crabs sideways on, as that’s how they’ll be walking towards the enemy?
HAPPY SUNDAY….
OK. I know you guys are asking, who is this Silverfox8 guy commenting. But finally got a quiet SUN AM to relax. As you all can imagine working for the US government these days has been very interesting not to mention frustrating as hell! Complete idiots aside! Loved your chat Ben on Star Wars. As I was watching this I was painting up my Star Wars Legion Stormtroopers for a game I plan on playing in July the week prior to historicon. But we are going to use the Gates of Antares rules and just pick factions out of it… Read more »
If in doubt, blame Magneto.
Project that “broke me” most recently was Battletech. I was quite hyped for it and got into the Kickstarter. That took long but wasn’t my main problem. What destroyed my will to continue was the difficulty to get around the rules or even get hold of them. Same for getting hold of miniatures for non-mechs. I think I am also intimidated somewhat by the prospect of painting non-flesh and blood minis. I suck at painting present or futuristic machines of any type and find that I don’t enjoy it. Maybe if I improved my skills in that area I might… Read more »
Just thinking about hobby that saved me: post Battletech I found a box of Romano-British from Gripping Beast. I find that painting them the most relaxing thing in a loooooong time. Not too much detail, but lots of character. I even enjoy doing some free-hand shield designs. Yes. Saved by Saga. SAGA!!
I won’t say I’ve been broken by a project. I always remind myself something you guys said few years back about we can always revisit a project. I’m kinder on myself these days. I have multiple projects, some unstarted. Now I feel I can jump between when the wish to tackle fantasy, historical or another. Do I want to do detailed work today or break out the olive green and tackle some FOW? I will say I used to be a 6mm fan but since warlord brought out the epic scale I’ve sold my 6mm stuff on but still rate… Read more »
I’ll be at expo. I’ll definitely be having a beer or two.
For me it was Warhammer 40K. I just could not keep up with the constant editions, bloat, rules changes, published armies online…any it never stops. My last games were in 5th edn., and things just got worse in later editions. I just buy some miniatures once in a while and read a few novels that interest me. I do love the Universe after all these years, but from a distance.
I haven’t played 40k since an apocalypse game some 8 years ago. I love the lore and the models but the game holds no appeal anymore.
I also bought into Wrath of Kings, but I completed my two factions (besides other miniatures in the range) in the two consecutive fire sales they had before selling everything to Miniature Market in the US.
It was 1997 and Warhammer Fantasy 4/5th edition undead skeletons. After constructing two boxes of them, which was painful. Every arm and head had to be glued in. I stupidly followed a White Dwarf article by the ‘Eavy Metal team on how to paint the undead. I managed to paint 20 odd of them plus a mounted wight Lord with command group and a box of mounted wights. It all took far too long and I broke. I put everything away: the unassembled dead, and the 5th edition starter set and Magic box set I had as I had big… Read more »
Good show guys, and some lovely projects with very worthy button winners. Completely with Gerry when it comes to CMON, I’ll be there with the matches right beside you. I don’t think I can forgive them for destroying dark-Age and the way they dealt with Wrath of Kings. However, I must be stupid because despite that, I still got hold of some Song of Ice and Fire stuff, which is just collecting dust in the garage. Rackham making a complete balls up with Confrontation was pretty devastating. It was the game that inspired me to travel to join a new… Read more »
With the demise of the Warlord 2000AD licence I remembered that I can contribute to this. I bought the Block Gang box quite soon after release of the Judge Dredd game as they’re generic enough to be used in other games. Something about them just didn’t click with me. I couldn’t clean the mould lines properly (probably using the wrong tools for siocast: hobby knife and metal files) and the proportions seemed a bit ‘off’ for me. Lanky is probably the best word I can come up with. I can remember painting a couple, but the rest of the box… Read more »
