Backstagers, CoGs and OTTers, happy Sunday!
And this weekend we find out that in fact we will, at some point, lose contact with @johnlyons as he is taken hostage by the yakuza for dishonoring the family of his secret Japanese mecha-maid cafe waifu stewardess in Shibuya during his international jaunt to actually mount a 1:1 scale anime mech statue (pics or it didn’t happen). We find that @brennon has a crushing inability to render common office technology subservient to his wizardly will and this is why he has always been telecasting his presence via the medium of moving picture and sound. The latest amble down the… Read more »
Thanks for the button. Second turnip force under construction
@john Don’t apologise for your margins joke. There is no need to justify yourself
I think my golden age was late 80’s to early 2000’s….lots of wargaming, lots of big weekend games and lots of RPG’s.
Happy Sunday
Hope to catch the show later today after mother’s day duty
Wishing you all a grand weekend 👍
Happy Sunday.
@johnlyons I just watched all of The 08th MS Team last week for the first time (it was free on YouTube until the end of this month). I have an HG EZ8 kit coming tomorrow which I plan on painting and dirtying up. It’ll be my first time painting a Gundam, I’m sure someone did a video recently….
I was also looking at getting a Gundam RX-79 Ground Type sometime later.
Best of luck with your entry.
They are great kits, from a great series. I have the full 08th MS team, the ez8 and two rx-79G’s along with Norris’s Gouf Custom. Because that city fight with the Gouf is pure cinema!
The Gouf custom has been on my list for a while now.
I’m not sure about a golden age of gaming – I’ve had plenty of fun over the years with various groups and playing a range of role-playing, board or miniatures games. I did see a golden age of miniature sculpting which was 1985. This was when Citadel first had a Lord of the Rings license. That range came out at a time when their general output on the Fantasy side was peaking (Townsfolk, Barbarians, Halflings, etc.) and it included some of their best ever sculpting from my perspective; Mouth of Sauron, Knights of Dol Amroth, the Balrog to name a… Read more »
@johnlyons would heat shrink plastic sheets work for for the Gundam cloth and gloves. From memory 8t doesn’t take a lot of heat. I think a hairdryer works
I’ve had three golden ages: 1. From 1982 – 1988, when I was big into D&D, from the early white box to the end of 1st edition. I could not afford miniatures back then! 2. From 1995 – 2014, when I found GW, played so many games, learned to paint, won a Golden Demon (2006), ran the largest club in Canada, and was heavily involved with GW. Also started into historical games around this time, was the first mod for a company called Warlord Games… 3. Now. I’m on a genuine renaissance that began during the End Times with my… Read more »

You’re right John! On HLJ the 1/100 MG RX-79(G) and EZ-8 are both discontinued. If I had known I would have bought a copy of each. They were really cheap. On the positive flip side, this means they are retooling them for sure. They are very popular kits.
I like the ‘I am not Done With You Rule.’ I am going to steal that! Thanks Ben.
What a cold open XD
Cold to you, some may feel different. Who are we to judge. XD
Happy Sunday! Great show, I was particularly interested in @guillotine’s project. I am almost ready to share my attempt at doing the same thing. Just need to finish the last model in the set and I’ll hit publish. Spoiler alert – I think its a great set of paints!
I think the “golden age” of games is more relevant to the age of the gamer than availability of minis. Probably anything from 16 to mid twenties where you’ve got your first disposable income (that you can spend without parents/significant other finding out exactly how much you spent), and you discover the “hobby” via various games (although these days it’s probably via GW, although I predate GW so it was probably 15mm Mini-Figs (Paul and Teresa Baily and their 24 foot stand, how I miss you at wargames shows in the UK) for me. You do “make do” with terrain… Read more »
Focus ?
on only one thing ?
and you need to finish that first before the next ?
what witchcraft is this ?
My golden age was my teenage years (mid 1980s to early 1990s). As a reasonably affluent adult with grown up children I definitely own more game systems now, have a better terrain and model collection and play probably more games now than then. However the thing that made my golden age so exciting is the memories of discovering new and original experiences that I don’t get so much now. My hobby and play experience is far more refined now but I am exploring options within a space I am familiar and comfortable with rather than encountering something life changing. My… Read more »
