Don’t Miss Flames Of Orion! Mech Combat With A Brutal, Quick & Explosive Indie Twist #OTTWeekender
May 9, 2025 by avernos
It's OTTWeekender time! In this week's show we have not one, not two, but THREE indie projects worth keeping an eye on. We have been pretty stunned by the excellent Sci-Fi mech wargame Flames of Orion which is on Kickstarter right now!
Flames of Orion could well be the antidote to BattleTech fatigue and disenchantment with its quick and easy rules, brutal gameplay and a focus on kitbashing and converting your own mechs for use in the game using whatever you have in your collection. Flames of Orion is a wargame you don't want to miss.

I wonder if Roy Batty has been to Orion …
More mech more better? Discuss!
Hi folks it’s weekender time👌👍
I love it when Xenos Rampant gets a shoutout on this show. It’s a game more folks should hear about.
The new Star Wars starters look great.
Happy weekend!
Nice looking treebucket
And cop car doors
Or the moon film
In this episode we see someone earn the pilot callsign “Huggybear”.. lol
Good one guy’s
The Star Wars sets looks nice.
What is it with all these grimdark skirmish and mech games popping up.
Maybe it’s the fact that when you look at the news there’s a lot of grimdark out there.
I’m just gonna leave this here. Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein:

It’s a “What the hell did I just watch?” kind of mini movie.
You had me at suggested music: Willian Bassinski. Crikey.
This counts as a quiet week for me.
Flames of Orion looks really interesting. Always wanted to do mech combat but Battletech isn’t for me
Great to see Dreadball back!!
While Flames of Orion’s heat rules look pretty awesome, I do prefer being able to destroy arms and legs of a mech in Classic Battletech.
Those new Star Wars sets seem to come backed with figures. Pretty impressed with what they have done with those. I need a new system as much as I need a hole in the head so will have to resist, at least for a while.
IGSMinis has now been added to my favourites bar. Thanks for bringing that one to my attention.
Mechs!
