I fear if I buy those my daughter will snag them. Also, for the stencils: would the copper plates you can buy as “extra details” for model kits also work or would they be to shallow?
do you mean brass etched kits? I don’t see why they wouldn’t if they are deep enough, but most aren’t negatives, also they are very very soft metal so you could easily damage them
Etched brass, that word was eluding me. Thank you. I was thinking about the sets that have something like grated walkways. And of course one would need to glue the brass down on something sturdy. Need to think about that some more…
There’s textured plastic card available with such surfaces. I’d say that’d be a cheaper method for creating grated walkways and it’s also easier to work with.
There’s a squirrel on 2 of the Fall in Love plates
That is such a great idea there @avernos and I am sure that the Sarissa stencils would also work as I am sure a wealth of under stencils. Off to buy some
that’s a fab suggestion Gerry may be a great way to do camo on say the command tank.
OK, I gave everybody a fair chance… so I’ll say this now:
Gerry nailed it.
Thank you. 😉
A few extra thoughts from someone who’s been stamping her nails for 10 years now. Yush…the bottom of the stamper comes off, so you can place the stamp exactly where you want it. Handy for layering designs. And it’s true, it’s very important the plates have the right depth, so going for quality will save you a lot of headache. But there are many ‘cheap’ stampers out there too, that will make your life a lot more difficult. I’ve tried quite a lot by now, and Moyou’s seems to be the best by far (and obviously their clear ones make… Read more »
I might take my miniatures into a local nail bar and see if they can add a few designs to Space Marine shoulder pads!
They do some fine work.
HAHAHAHAHAHAA I absolutely love that idea. Please have camera ready, so we can see their confuzzled faces 😀
That is a genius idea! It will be a handy technique to go along side nail decals / stickers for my Polish cavalry ?
I think I’m going to have to invest in some oils as well. Any tips on cleaning up oils; white spirit?
yes you can grab odorless white spirits from B&Q but even the regular stinking stuff will do the job
Cheers, buddy ?
Disappointed your nails weren’t decorated as well @avernos
Cool idea. What’s up with the Weekender????? Need my show lads!!!!
we said two weeks ago we were taking a break for a fortnight back again next week
Yay team ott.
I was a bit curious about that myself. Totally reasonable. I must have missed where they said that, or possibly forgotten 🙂
Great advice from both Avernos and Aurorainbag. From my own experiences of tarting up my Gaslands vehicles and scenery with these things, the two extra things I’d add would be to always do at least one test print (stamp?) with each design beforehand to (1) get used to using the stamp (especially if going from acrylic to oil) in case there is anything odd about it that hasn’t occurred before, and (2) use a Q-tip/cotton bud to clean off the plate before transferring the paint to the stamp – that way you don’t have to wipe it off the stamp… Read more »
You could always get a kilt to freak people out?
I am off to raid my daughter’s room.
Lol.
that probably reads creepier than you intended…
Lol.
We use stencils with an airbrush rather than a stamper
besides the fact that it won’t be as easy to clear up is there any reason why you wouldn’t be able to use nail polish to perform this task?
Given that it’s a bit thicker it may have worked a bit better on the uneven surface of the banner than either the oil or miniature paint, though I guess it would probably have ended up quite glossy.
I know it’s not ideal to get a new product but at least you could have fabulous nails while you practice 😉
I’ve looked at nail transfers before as an option but never knew this was a thing. Great stuff, something completely new to have a think about!
