I spend lot more time consuming BoW content than Netflix, but pay only about third the price. And I think Netflix is great value too. And I subscribe to a wargames magazine and their online service, both which cost more than BoW. I like them, but nowhere near BoW value. Like others said the hidden costs in Kickstarters and other are way worse LOL.

Since this is backstage, I’ll share a story… This year at Salute I talked with a guy who was promoting an small upcoming pirateship themed Kickstarter project. His table seemed cool and I asked if had built it with the “Beasts of War sponge technique”, he said yes, and went on to praise how good the idea was, how easy and cheap it was to build and to transport to the event. He shared his tips on building it, etc. But then he started complaining about BoW having that content behind a paywall. “It’s just a video, why not put it out for free, like the Terrain Tutor”. I did’t want to argue with him and just wandered off the stand. Obviously Mel the Terrain Tutor runs a different business model but none of his videos would happen if some of us didn’t support him on Patreon. I understand that there are people who do gaming on a budget, but this guy was promoting his business and somehow thought 3.79 was too big of an investment… Just goes to show you that there are some people that never want to pay for anything online, no matter how cheap. These are the people you should ignore when thinking about pricing.
