I can only imagine if you asked me these questions tomorrow the answers might be different, but to the best of my ability for now…
1) If you had to play one game for the rest of your life what would it be?
Videogame – World of Warcraft (Played it on and off since it was released, no other game I’ve played has had such longevity)
Tabletop – D&D (Probably 3rd edition, even though I prefer the mechanics of 4th, there was just so much content for 3rd).
2) How did you learn of BOW and how why did you become a member of the community?
I was at spiel, sitting in my hotel with a shortlist of games to pick-up on the final day. I wanted a second opinion, found a video on youtube with Warren waxing lyrical about some of the games on my list. I ended up enjoying the videos so much I decided to keep a link and watch more of the videos when I got home. I haven’t stopped since 🙂
3) What do you enjoy the most about your hobby?
Writing rules first, writing lore second. The order of those two switches depending on how I feel. I do love playing games with friends, but isn’t that a given?
4) where would you be if you weren’t working for where you work?
Probably still making video games.
5) what is your favourite genre to play games in?
I enjoy just about any setting (apart from historical) but my favourite is always going to be fantasy.
6) what are your job roles within where you work?
I’m the Technical Director for our cloud division.
7) what did you do before your current job?
I spent over a decade making computer games, originally as a programmer, and later as a project manager.
8) favourite all-time game?
Video Game – Really tough call. Soul Reaver 2, Baldurs Gate, Total Annihilation, Diablo, WoW, Halo, so many more. For now I’ll say Baldurs Gate.
Tabletop – Warhammer Quest (1st edition), it was what transitioned me from miniature gaming to RPG’s, and I loved every aspect of it. Though I also love Malifaux: TTB and D&D a lot.
9) what do your co-workers think is your expertise?
Explaining technical concepts to client stakeholders who may or may not be technical.
10) favourite alcoholic and non alcoholic drink?
I don’t drink alcohol, classic orange tango (from a fountain as a preference). Though I drink diet coke mostly.
11) spare time hobby that’s not gaming related?
I play the guitar quite a bit, I did HEMA for years, but not recently.
12) what do you think others say is your most irritating trait?
I am overly verbose, in e-mails, meeting notes, when speaking, basically always.
13) can you lick your own nose?
I cannot.
14) what do you like the most and hate the most about your job?
I love working with creative people to solve complex problems, I love the travel. It can be quite stressful sometimes, but I also think, if it was easy it wouldn’t be rewarding.
15) favourite candy bar
Tough call, probably snickers.
16) favourite book
Lot of potential options here, but going to have to go with “Lords and Ladies” by Terry Pratchett.
17) favourite pizza
Recently discovered, local place, they put baked beans into the tomato sauce, then cover that with cheese and mushrooms. On a thin base, with a cheese-stuffed crust. Top that with some chips and slather it with BBQ sauce, oh my!
Pizza is probably my favourite food though, so I like a lot of different kinds…
18) favourite movie
The top four that I struggle to order, but roughly,
Titanic, Breakfast Club, The Matrix, Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
I think they all fit on a Venn diagram with Keanu reeves, a tragic love story and beautiful historical cinematography
19) favourite band
I like a lot of music (Halestorm was a good pick by someone else). However, if I had to pick one band that has consistently produced music I’ve enjoyed for years and years, it would have to be Foo Fighters.
20) who from the BOW would you eat in a zombie apocalypse?
Do we have a freezer? I think that is key here if we can preserve the meat, that has to be a factor.
