Look into setting up a committee or council for your club that is elected by the members of it. This will help enable the feeling of belonging to your members, as after a while a club becomes less something you run and more something that runs itself. This council should include at the very least a chairman and a treasurer, but could also include things like a members rep to help bring matters of those not on the council to it, or a events organiser that helps steer events you may run in the future. You also need to look into your local laws as it pertains to community and non-profit groups, as legally you may be required to get insurances and so forth.

Buying club armies is a hard one to do since there is always the danger that someone will develop a sense of ownership of it. If you can afford to look into getting mats but make sure they are generic or cover the setting of games that are regularly played. As for terrain if you can go generic then do so, but if not a good spread to cover the games played.

As for free nights, it may be better to have free event days instead perhaps a campaign day for the game most club members play or a learn a new game day.

My local club that I am currently the chairman of has been running for over 20 years. It is always a struggle to maintain a balance of assets to please everyone, but as long as you communicate with the membership you will probably find that people will listen to others ideas and embrace them.
