I remember reading an account where a  Prussian cavalry regiment just sat about 150 yards away from a French infantry Battalion forcing it into a square while Prussian infantry poured fire into it.  The infantry couldn’t leave the square or the Cavalry would attack and were ineffective against the infantry

 

I’m doubtful if British platoon was effective after the first couple of volleys as the effects of battle came into effect. Even Frederick the Great’s Prussian drill on the battlefield didn’t last too long once hostilities began. I think for most games a modifier for first fire would be appropriate
