I disagree about needing a ton of knowledge as before I got involved in VBCW I knew next to nothing about the interwar and face of UK politics in the 1930s. But after reading a little around the subject I got a feel and flavour for the period and started to work out ideas and scenarios. In fact the research was on of the things I enjoyed and actually we all do that for the games we play.
