You’re absolutely right. But Mrs Blinky and I have felt it especially this year – we’ve been putting off New Year month-by-month and it hardly seems worth celebrating right now!
In Jan, she was chased off the road by an articulated lorry, fell off her bike and cracked two ribs. Four weeks recovery. “Let’s start our New Year in February!”
In Feb, the mother-in-law was sent to hospital and the home refused to take her back; we spent much of the month trying to re-home her. “Let’s start our New Year in March”
In March the old girl died. “Let’s start our New Year in April.”
We all know what happened from mid-March onwards (in some countries, it started much earlier. Here in the UK, our powers-that-be were still in denial until the 23rd). “It looks like May and June are a write-off too, let’s have New Year in July.”
In July we managed a day out to visit family as the lock-down was eased. The car blew up on the way home. “F@*k it, August will be our New Year.”
I’m not sure what happened in August, but in September we officially called our New Year started, and went to Cornwall for a week’s break in the campervan. We’d only been gone two days and Mrs Blinky fell out of the van and broke her pelvis.
F@*k you 2020. So the sooner this particular year is over – irrespective of what the next on brings – the better!
