I’ve come to peace with myself regarding the hobby over the years. I am in a lucky position to be able to afford nearly anything, but I don’t have the time to do everything right now. Family gaming time is also very limited and so its more important to do something when we can than to do it perfectly.

Aspirations and goals are good, but don’t be dogmatic about it. As I play exclusively in a family setting I have to field everything – and I can’t paint that much. So I don’t make that a condition. We played all of 40k 8th/Kill Team unpainted – the world did not end, it was fun. For Christmas now we are playing Star Wars Legion, mostly unpainted. That’s fine.

I can buy whatever I want – I just sleep a night over it before pressing the button. This has really helped in imposing some discipline and not being attracted by some new idea too quickly.

I can have as much as I want – there just has to be space to put it all away. I bought a lot of Really Useful Boxes, worked wonders. Not having clutter out and a system where I can find things

Focus is good, but variety is inevitable. I have two ‘gaming systems/worlds’ I would be content with to play for the rest of my life. Neither is feasible right now so I play other things to tide me over. I can’t have my 1000 marine, 50+ tank and flyer 30k Ultramarine force now, but I look forward to having it in 10 years.
