@templar007 – You’re welcome.
I have been playtesting the game a lot now. (In fact the past 5 months I have just been wargaming and not painting a all – that has got to change). Like all Rampant games, the beauty is that you can focus of the narrative or the scenario, without getting bogged down in rules and minutiae of ‘how this weapon works or how that ability functions‘. I find that very liberating.
I also like how the game works in 15mm scale with troops based in the same way as ‘Flames of War’, with every base having 1 strength point. I even use tanks the same way, employing 5 tanks with 1 strength point each.
My only gripe with the game is that the strength points are based on multiples of 5 instead 6 like Lion and Dragon Rampant. This makes it a bit awkward to create elite/Support/vehicle units with 2 strength points for each model (since the unit only has 5 strength points). With Heavy or Light troops, you can get around it by doubling the strength points as per the rules.
After a few games we have found two simple ways to address this. The first is just playing with multiples of six. Point wise, this change doesn’t seem to affect the game in any significant way at all. The second option is to pay 1 extra point, and increase the strength points of elite/Support/vehicle units to 6 strength points. The second option is my preferred way.
All in all, this is a great little ruleset, and I intend to used it for other systems like Star Wars Legion and ‘old school’ 40K.
Let me know what you think of the game after playing it.
