As a watcher from the early days in the old studio before the move to England and back, I always liked the slightly anarchic episodes full of live banter. The Zoom format works and is ok, but loses something in spontaneity I feel – because maybe the timelag effect means talking over each other works differently to an in-person chat. I appreciate the Ben factor, and having him as a talking head on a screen responding to an audio link was always a detrimental issue, but I would dearly love to return to a format where there were more “breakout” elements at least. I particularly liked the live sessions and stuff like the bootcamps. Anything really to break up the wall-to-wall Zoom meetings would be great. It does feel that things are a little formulaic and predictable these days. Maybe I’m biased because I participate in a lot of Zoom meetings for work and I hate them, much preferring in-person chatting, but there you go. Also, one of my random additional pet-hates though is the holding up of miniatures to the web-cam to try and show details…. ugh! I get that its not always easy to predict and to pre-plan photos, and given my comments about spontaneity above, its fair do’s, but it still makes my teeth itch!
I get there are practical issues and so on, and you need to run a profitable business to survive, so there is balance – I have no idea how much the monthly OTT membership fees go to cover the costs for the XLBS and stuff. But as someone who isn’t really into Discord and social media and other online interactions beyond the odd forum post, XLBS, the odd unboxing for miniatures that interest me and whatever the contribution generally to the website’s overheads is pretty much all I am paying for, so saying as input has been solicited, I’m happy to oblige!
