I am always very glad that I bought what I did when I did, especially if we’re talking GW. While they were never my favorite company and certainly never cheap –  even when I saw my first multi-part, Monty Python-inspired medieval Citadel models in the late 1970s  they were already among the most expensive figures on the market – I do, as most of us, have a ton of GW stuff, a sizeable portion of it acquired second hand, found in various game stores’ bits boxes, in bottom drawers and such like.

Constant changes in rules, new editions and similar hard sell tricks of the trade can be circumvented by finding like-minded gamers who like a specific game and specific edition and just stick with it.

Failing that, solo gaming is always an option, then you don’t have to take into account what anyone else wants or, even worse, what a specific company wants you to like…..

If you’re into Horus Heresy, I can recommend at least some of the fairly extensive series of Black Library novels, the first 3 are actually very good, the rest kind of hit-and-miss, reading isn’t gaming, but it’s close, it keeps you involved with the setting and will probably inspire you to paint and collect.

Also, I have almost always regretted selling miniatures or games I had collected.
