Our first question comes from @cap10jon

Hey I’m a long time backstager, consumer of content, but unfortunately more of a ‘lurker’ than participant in the community (have to work on that one). I’m looking for an answer to a hobby question and I thought…if anyone can answer…Gerry can! Here it is: I have several models with ‘hinged’ joints for weapons/limbs etc. that I would like to keep mobile, but due to gravity always tend to droop on there own. Is there some kind of goop that I can apply in the joint that is sticky enough to hold the part in position but still allow it to be re-positioned? I’m looking to increase the friction so it will hold in place but still be movable. Think of the ‘elevation’ hinge on a tank barrel for instance. I don’t want to glue it in place pointing up 20 degrees permanently…but if I don’t it will flop down and be blasting the mice running in front of the treads :). Also, magnets aren’t practical due to the type of joint. I really appreciate your feedback (and that of the community of course 🙂

Well that’s an interesting one and I do have a goop for it actually! But I thought I would double check what the gunpla people do just in case they have a clever answer… they don’t. But in case you are wondering they suggest nail varnish painted on around the ball and let harden to give a tighter fit, which unfortunately only works for ball socket joints.

My suggestion is to find Hob-e-tac from woodland scenics. I got it for tree kits originally, it’s a white glue that dries clear, once it is dry it remains tacky so you can reposition the part. I have used it for exactly that with ball socket flight stands so the model doesn’t sag in one direction.

It’s worth noting that I’ve bought a few other “tacky” glues to try out and none of them actually remain sticky like Hob-e-tac does, so I wouldn’t grab another product just because it’s cheaper, it may not do the same job.

Hope that helps and maybe the other CoGs will have other suggestions
