I’d say part of the problem within our hobby is that it is in essence a real world social thing which requires physical components.
It’s not a digital hobby (with an exception for the bricks&pliers fans), so there is no real need to be ‘on line’ at all.
Net result is that those of us who do wander into the digital realm don’t have the patience/skills to create their own digital presence, so companies like Reddit and Facebook offer a viable zero effort solution to those that want to share.
Anyways … instead of all this negativity, what about fixing this ?
OTT kind of is a hub for all things tabletop hobby related.
All we really need is to create a web ring of our own, because that’s kind of what folk did back then.
Of course without a good search engine they kind of had to, but with the crap results that search engines return I feel we are back in the dark days before Google.
Maybe create a project that lists interesting websites/blogs ?
Tell those book of faesces users that they can advertise their groups on OTT … (and watch the OTT servers grind to a halt … )
I fear that the performance of the OTT website may be part of the reason why the entire shop/places/games section hasn’t been as successful as it could have been.
