Hi there, I backed Time of Legends: Joan of Arc a while back, I played a few games and found the setup time and the rules pretty much ruined what looked like a good thing.

The minis are great though and there are a lot of them and they are 18mm scale. Its based in the 100 years war but as if Medieval legends were true, so there are monsters, undead, angels and demons.

Can anyone recommend a ruleset I could use to turn a disappointment into a great tabletop war game?

Of Gods and Mortals is a fun, easy to learn and play ruleset.

Or maybe check out Lion Rampant/Dragon Rampant (Dragon Rampant includes fantasy elements).

Just a couple off the top of my head.  Good luck and happy gaming!

I’d say Dragon Rampant is a good way of doing fast medieval games with a touch of fantasy and if you’re after something in the way of massed battles check out Fantastic Battles, it’s a terrific game and fully modular, the blue cover is the most recent edition if you’re looking at it.

there’s a book review and playthrough on the site, and an active facepage group if you want to dip your toe before diving in

Based on what I’ve seen, and that it was available from Amazon in Canada, I ordered a copy as well. I’m intrigued by Fantastic Battles!

I definitely recommend the facepage group then if you do that sort of thing very active and the author is in there all the time https://www.facebook.com/groups/313513879678378

private group so you may need to wait for someone to accept you.

I don’t have facepage, so need not worry 🤣

Got my copy of the book today; overall, first impressions are that’s it’s excellent! I received a copy of version 1.2, which I’m assuming is an updated version.

    – loads of well-painted miniatures

    – rules seem to be laid out well

    – good army building system which seems to accommodate lots of variation

    – interesting ways to pretty much make all your toys play

I’ll continue to read the book, and hopefully it continues to inspire.
