Yes, a discord server has left the building.

The Atomic Mass Games (AMG) one. On 27.06.2025 the following message appeared in the official Discord server for Atomic Mass Games:

    Hi @everyone!

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to close the Atomic Mass Games Discord server. This was not an easy choice, but ultimately, it is the best step for our team and our community. The server will officially close on Monday, June 30th at 8 AM PST.

Maintaining a space like this requires significant resources and around-the-clock moderation. While we have always valued having a direct space for discussion, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-moderated environment at all times has become increasingly difficult to sustain. Given these factors, we believe our efforts are best focused on projects and initiatives that can better support the entire Atomic Mass Games community.

We also recognize that fan communities thrive best when they have the freedom to shape their own conversations. While we have loved engaging with all of you here, we want to encourage players to create and participate in independent spaces where discussions can evolve organically.

We truly appreciate everyone who has been part of this server and shared their passion for our games. The Discord will remain open until Monday, June 30th at 7:59 AM PST, so feel free to wrap up conversations and connect with others before then. Thank you for being part of the Atomic Mass Games community, and we look forward to continuing the conversation in new and exciting ways.

    Best,
    The Atomic Mass Games Team

And so it happened. The Discord server is gone and with it all the content that was there.
What do we learn from this?

    • A community is work
    • Social media is work
    • ‘Other people’s servers’ is never a good idea if you’re thinking long-term
    • A self-hosted forum is always better (as of today)

    What do we have now?

    • The AMG homepage
    • The AMG Twitch channel
    • AMG’s Instagram account
    • AMG’s Facebook page

None of this can reach all players of their games. Pretty daft, in my opinion. But nobody asks me.

    *sigh*

    AND NO FIRESALE!

    Addendum:

Could also be that they kicked me because of the use of a meme. I used the following meme.

Sad times! Mods having zero sense of humour.

    Addendum II:

    1. The server wasn’t gone when I wrote this post, I must have been kicked off (in the last few metres) because of an actually harmless GIF. Never mind. Anyway, the server is gone now.
    2. On closer inspection, there are now only 2 places on AMG for something similar to a community. Namely groups within the Facebook page. One for Marvel: Crisis Protocol and one for Star Wars: Shatterpoint. AMG does have a forum, but it’s only for rules questions and is very strictly moderated.

Does that make sense? I don’t think so.

    *sig*

This is simply proof that one cannot rely on companies keeping their services going ‘forever’.

It’s not like they didn’t warn us, but they didn’t exactly give their community time to create backups or whatever.

While most of the content on a chat-service like discord isn’t worth keeping as it tends to be people saying ‘hi’ (or is outdated like references to events past), there likely was stuff that could and should have been preserved somewhere.

Heck, they could have shifted it to their respective face pages or even their own forum if they had any interest in keeping their community alive and kicking.

It really helps newbies to a game when there’s an official site with FAQs, up-to-date info and show cases of curated community content. An alternative would be an officially sanctioned community website, but those trend towards elitism IMHO unless the community is interested in growing.

Anyway … I think there’s a great opportunity for OTT to step in and become the center of activity for AMG.
I seem to think that that was one of the ideas the team had on their roadmap towards world domination.
It would however require a backend that is a bit faster and responsive. Maybe business daddy can assist ?

(or maybe it is what the team already is doing in the background ? I doubt they would keep something of this magnitude quiet … 😉 )

Hold up? Another of my threads that has lost it’s initial post? What is happening?!

You’re being censored….lol…the OTT ICE team will be kicking down your door soon to cart you away for re-education by watching Squidmar videos after that you’ll appreciate OTT more and agree Warren is an eminent professor of history and leading expert on all things Alien…… LOL….you’ll come back demanding more Code Busters
