Oh I don’t think most of us OTTers here who backed any CGL KS think that they are trying to scam us. That would mean there was an intent to do so.
Given the ‘local’ shipping costs i’m not sure I agree with you. Then going on to say stock is at the warehouse and then later to admit it has not cleared customs.
It gets harder and harder to find the line between incompetence and deliberate falsehood.
Suffice to say I would never do business with CGL.
March 27, 2025 at 8:41 pm #1921684The thing with Battlefl.. *eh* Battletech Gothic is that it also requires them to make new minis that have multiple optional parts.
I was under the impression that all plastic Battlemechs were one piece designs, which is why they have these force boxes instead of ‘build your own ‘mech’ boxes.
That’s not something I’d expect them to have the funds for, given that they have multiple kickstarters in various stages of completion.
These guys don’t have GW levels of money that allows them to create new sprues for single use designs just because they can.
And as I said … they lack experience with this type of manufacturing.Heck, they’re barely able to manage a kickstarter for their main line product that had zero challenges from a technical/production point of view (possible exception that ridiculous complicated book design they added).
I am also not sure if the average Battletech fan is the kind of person who would want an alternate universe variant. It feels like a hard sci fi space opera (if that makes sense?).
‘clan invasion’ sounded like an ‘end times’ kind of deal with not much that could be done to extend the the lore into the future.
A Horus Heresy style ‘early mech’ era is more likely to be something the fans would want to see.
Mutants and other creatures ? nope.Fictional settings will always be a very hard concept to sell to a new audience.
As a Battletech n00b I may be completely wrong though …
Are there any alternate universe settings by fans out there for Battlemech ?
If so … there’s your clue as to the potential of this new variant.March 28, 2025 at 3:02 pm #1921778Well I scraped some game stat info from their promotional info on their released promo images, Got pretty clear images of one of the abomination cards and alpha strike card, a view of partial completed abomination record sheet, phoenix hawk variant and Patric
k Kell now drives a scorpion.

Isn’t this due to the odd way the licence has been parcelled up. CGL don’t have the licence to make and sell minis, they have the licence to make and sell board game products. Hence why they have to pack them in force boxes with alpha strike cards, and also have to give their designs to IWM (who have the minis licence).
March 28, 2025 at 9:25 pm #1921873I’m not gonna back this one.
I think they realized that back then they left out all the elements like aliens, monsters, and the gothic style from the game, and now they’re somehow trying to bring them in — but unfortunately, it’s not going to work.
Why didn’t they just try making a Solaris VII expansion instead?
March 28, 2025 at 10:21 pm #1921875I think the old guard understand the background better than CGL do and are capable of either creating extensions on their own (thus zero potential profit for CGL) .
Picking an alternate setting (especially one that’s more focused on the fantastic elements) might be just the thing to get non-Battletech players into the system.
However as fictional backgrounds are tricky to sell under the best of circumstances I doubt it will be that easy, unless there’s some big new thing coming ‘soon’.
March 29, 2025 at 9:17 am #1921947CGL has a line of “build your own” mechs. The premium-miniature range. Those are very few minis for 15USD a piece and only have some weapon/arms options as far as I know.
But yeah there seems to be some kind of licencing issue.
March 31, 2025 at 10:02 am #1922172Oh no. Oooooh no. @johnlyons you want to avoid the following read:
ICv2: Tell us what Catalyst has coming up in 2025.
Loren Coleman: The big news that came out this week is BattleTech ‑ Gothic. It is an alternate universe BattleTech; there’ll be only a couple of products for that. Mostly, it’s alternate-aesthetic miniatures and a new universe book to describe BattleTech as if it was a more of a Gothic‑flavored universe. It’s the first of our five BattleTech continuum universes. Following that will be a rockets and rayguns 1950s sci‑fi edition. Following that, about a year later, will be the BattleTech anime‑style universe.
These are all just quick little detours. The main timeline is still moving forward with full product support, but we wanted to push the edge of what we can do with the plastics and the BattleTech story. Those will be little side branches.
FIRST of FIVE universes XD

March 31, 2025 at 5:51 pm #1922316March 31, 2025 at 6:26 pm #1922322I’d say ‘rockets & rayguns’ sounds infinitely more cool than ‘gothic’
I bet ‘anime’ will be a poor attempt at Gundam … they know it’s coming and they want to be in there before it hits.
I’d even say that it is the variant they should have been focussing on if this was a real thing.
I still say “April Fools'” because I doubt they had enough money left after the last kickstarter to create anything new, unless they used part of that money to fund this venture …
