    Cancon 2019

Cancon is organised and run by Canberra Games Society every year, and this year was its 40th!

It was my first year attending the event, and I’ve grabbed a few photos. But not enough!

We always hear about Adepticon, Salute and all the other big internationals. Let’s make some noise for Australia!

Have we got any other photos to share?

    Battle reports from the tournaments?

    Stories to tell?

In the Coorong hall we had:

    the Board Game Library

    9E7D5E4C-2233-424F-B67B-63169BC30022

Open until midnight Saturday and Sunday

One of the large gaming areas, usually dedicated to tournaments.

    7CC53DBC-7FA5-4342-B800-963F3310C068

One of the fantastic gaming tables from the show.

Has any any one else got any more to show?

Only got a couple of photos – I really need to remember to go on day 3 when it’s less crowded and you can take photos and chat to the game designers and product creators. Anyhow… I only got a few shots of some painted cyberpunk buildings by Knights of Dice – great looking product which has me twitching to so a cyberpunk tabletop…

@evilstu that Knights of Dice display was fantastic. Verrry tempting to do some cyberpunk style scenery.

    Cheers @firebuck it was!

Next year, more photos I hope!

Mu mate went down for the Age of Sigmar tournament(which was apparently huge and sold out quickly,) He loved it. I’ll check to see if he has photos he’s willing to share.

@rowen80 yeah I’m going to commit to setting aside a few dollars a week so I have a kitty for next year… 🙂 Hope you scored some shiny loot!

@evilstu Yep, that’s what I did. While it’s difficult to not buy any of the new shinnies that appear throughout the year, it is worthwhile when Cancon rolls around. I picked up Gloomhaven, a start collecting Sylvaneth, some awesome Miniature scenery terrain and a Frank Miller Batman and a Lobo from the Knight Models range.

@rowen80 nice haul! Hope you had a car handy – Gloomhaven on it’s own would have been a pest to haul around all day…  Yes I was very tempted by a lot of the MDF terrain from the smaller manufacturers, next year I shall be prepared!

@evilstu Fortunately (or unfortunately) I live very close to where Cancon was held so I didn’t have to carry it for long. You’re right though, gloomhaven is a beast to carry. I think I did 2 trips to the car to drop of hobby purchases

27E37C76-8F8E-41DF-97E9-60E5B396E56CMy second time going and had a great time. Pictured are my purchases — can’t wait to add to my Twisted collection and picked up enough Judgement to get started.

Pretty warm though! I went into the MTG room a few times just to cool down.

@jamesedwards Whoa! That’s a major haul. The Twisted scenery looks really good. No wonder that you had to go and cool down in the MTG room after carrying all that around in the 39 degree heat.

@beardragon yeah, see if you can get any

pics of the event from him! The AoS tables weren’t as numerous as the 40K tables, but they were all full.

@rowen80 @evilstu a very clever idea there guys, if you can that much self discipline!

I heard the Games Capital stand had a load of Gloomhaven copies arrive in time to go direct to CanCon. Then there was a rush at the end of the first day as everyone waited until they were ready to leave before purchasing!

    @jamesedwards nice haul!!

The MTG room was probably the only one I didn’t visit. Sounds like it had the best AC… damn. Lol.

I think next year I’ll bring a portable AC, run it on battery and tow it around with me… I’ll go as Luke Skywalker and the AC can be R2… ?

For attendees, what other cons do you think you’ll attend this year? To the best of my knowledge this is the major one around (I am in Sydney) but we haven’t been to Wintercon for instance and would be keen to hear recommendations.
