March 26, 2019 at 11:45 am #1366907I didn’t see this when it was first posted however this year I set myself a bit of a new year’s resolution – to populate an 8×4 gaming Table with enough scenery for a decent game of 40k. The table had to be themed – so not just random stuff.
My original idea was to theme the table around a mining complex and build a mine from scratch. However I soon changed my idea from a mine to a Prometheum Rig because I just so happened to have partially built one. It’s a beast of a model standing almost 3′ in height but it’s a great centre piece for a table. So that has been the main focus of my efforts so far this year. However to accompany it I have also been working on some nice rock formations and a few desert buildings to create a small settlement that can be positioned near the Prometheum Rig.
How am I progressing against my target? Well, the Prometheum Rig isn’t finished – it’s very very close but I am not sure if it will be completed by Sunday – the end of March Deadline. I’m currently creating a lake inside a crater and water effects generally take at least 24 hours to cure, sometimes longer. I have poured one layer of water effect so far (last night so it’s nowhere near cured) and I think I need another 2 pours to get the look I am after, so in terms of completion time, I am largely bound by how long things take to cure and harden. However in terms of other scenery I have managed to make a significant number of rock formations using the expanding foam method (see the Terrain Tutor’s YouTube channel).
And a few Tatooine style buildings
The small dwelling is from TTCombat but has been given a coat of wall filler and I have finished two of these (with several more of various shapes and sizes built but unpainted). The more cylindrical building is from Microart Studio but still blends in nicely with the TTCombat stuff. The last building, still a work in progress, is made out of junk and spare bits of models – the door is from Scotia Grendel.
March 26, 2019 at 11:50 am #1366910Looking good, although I suspect a couple of those buildings could derail any weekender Warren is on. They look just a little like….mushrooms.
Drying time for anything is a pain. I’m trying to find the time to base some minis as they’ll want 2 overnight drying times before I can think about priming them. Its no fun and gets in the way. Its always wise to have a second project to hand when drying times are a consideration.
March 26, 2019 at 12:45 pm #1366937Yeah, those buildings are a killer for grownups like @warzan (to be honest I was tempted to draw a strategically placed line on one of them, for reasons)

I’m not even going to pretend it’s anything other than it is. WILLIES!
March 26, 2019 at 2:14 pm #1366994Maybe we need a separate backstage thread: “Wargaming things that look like willies but are not”?
