Good morning folks. As this little archipelago of ours continues to gently broil in temperatures that could not not unreasonably be classed as “a bit much” I thought it was only fair to give our usual Weekender host, the indefatigable @mage , a well-earned break.

In that vein then WELCOME!! This is the weekly thread for all your hobby and off-tangent chatter. If you are a newcomer to one of these then please feel free to get involved – whilst there is a core of regulars who turn up each week we’re a friendly bunch and appreciate a good natter.

Usual rules apply – no politics, no insults, post up what you are doing hobby-wise this weekend, feedback to other folks posts and generally be excellent to one another.

On a purely arbitary scale points will be awarded for answers to questions, music video posts, good conversation and showing off your hobby.

To start with then, some music:

because it’s ceratinly felt like we are in one at times –

    <iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/o1tj2zJ2Wvg” frameborder=”0″ allow=”autoplay; encrypted-media” allowfullscreen></iframe>

a little something from one of the greatest composers of the modern age that most folks probably havn’t heard of…

    <iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/zs3pYBQhtkM” frameborder=”0″ allow=”autoplay; encrypted-media” allowfullscreen></iframe>

andome suitable mood music for anyone getting their Fantasy on 😉
    <iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/_SBQvd6vY9s” frameborder=”0″ allow=”autoplay; encrypted-media” allowfullscreen></iframe>

    Now, questions……

    1. What are we all working on this weekend? For my part I want to try and finish of my Gundam build and my Wolf Guard Terminators…
    2. What film or tv show is your go-to to get some comfort food for the soul? Personally it’s The Fellowship of the Ring. Either cut is something I can just put on and it raises my spirits 🙂
    3. What game and/or faction would you love to get into but never have, and why? I find it a toss-up between the Necrons or Dark Eldar/Druchari. I love the aesthetics of both factions, especially since their 5th edition revamps, and their respective lores are fascinating, but something just never “clicked” with me to try and attempt collecting them. That may be set to change as I managed to pick up a metal Lilith Hesperax recently…..
    4. And finally, how are we all this weekend? I’m actually not too bad. Usual pains but I hit the gym twice this week, book-ending my physio, so I hit my target for the week 🙂

Ok, that’s my 2 cents. Have at it folks!

A quick post for my pledge: finish my Chaos Knights. I am so close. Literally touch up the metal on them and do their bases. Sooooo close. Also update and total previous weekenders I did…

Another weekend , another promise to paint and build things that I probably won’t get around to .  lol  . Well , my Tigers are coming along , not as fast as I had hoped , I keep finding variants that I might like to model , but with 3 hulls and 4 turrets , my choices are limited . I have also got a couple of layers of paint on my Were – Croc , so a few dry brushed layers of green wil be applied to him from time to time , and I’m still plugging away on those bloody Gnomes . I must also have at least 5 or 6 started tank kits and probably a couple of dozen Bolt Action figures I’m picking away at when the I feel the urge . Usually I put music on to raise my spirits , got a great  collection with a vast variety of bands , so no matter my mood I’ll always find something . Last night it was Ghost , The Monkees and The Spice Girls .  The only game I’ve ever played is X Wing , and that was quite a while ago . I probably should give Bolt Action ago as I have a couple hundred troops and about 50 odd tanks . I even have a 4 X 6 table set up , but I’m more interested in building tanks and buildings /scenery ( making engine noises and loud BANGs ! ) than rolling dice to tell the truth . Saga looks like an interesting game , plus you don’t need a whole lot of figures , plus I could build Vikings ! And Fostgrave has some neat minis , so I might give that a look see . Feeling pretty good this week , not too busy at work but manged to keep looking  busy so didn’t get too bored , and being Canada Day on Sunday , I have a 3 day weekend . Probably do the same things I do every weekend , hobby shop , record store , out for lunch with the guys , but I get an extra day of it . Hopefully I won’t piss away the extra  time and buckle down and paint , yea right

@dawfydd thnks for taking the reigns this weekend.

Well looks like another weekend without being able to make a pledge…. Matty isn’t here for the weekend, he’s gone to his Nans to help her take her old shed down and do some other chores for her. So without my erstwhile Gaming Buddy i’m a bit stuck.

I’ll have a nose round see if I have any outstanding stuff to paint up otherwise no hobby for me 🙁

    Anyhoo on to the questions:

    1) Errrm nothing. Well unless I can find something I can do solo.

    2) The Empire Strikes Back… well any of the original Trilogy will do really.

    3) Mmm not really able to answer this as If I like a faction I tend to collect it. However there is a game that I have been wanting to get into for ages after seeing a few things posted on here by @mage and thats the Batman Miniatures Game. Trouble is everytime I get close to being able to buy it something crops up that eats into my financial resources.

    4) i’m pretty good thanks for asking… a little bit tired and irritable with the heat, but i’m guessing were all in the same boat in that respect.

Right off to dig through my Bits Box see if I can find something to do….

    Feedback!

@mage well the Knights have been rocking so far so look forward to seeing them finished up,but don;t beat yourself up trying to wind up previous threads – 20 pts

@a27cromwell Well I make that at least 4 projects on the go there, good luck – 40 pts

    1. Nice spread of music there. I don’t think The Monkees get enough  respect for putting out some classic tunes…. 10pts
    2. That’s fair. Sounds like if you ever do decide you want to roll some dice with your WWII stuff you have a nice selection available, but nothing wrong with just being into the collecting & painting side of things. Maybe worth seeing if there are any clubs in your area where you could try some systems out?  – 20pts
    3. Extra-long weekend for the win!! That sounds like an excellent plan for what you are going to be doing – 10pts

@biggabum well hey, you don’t have to hobby every weekend, and as Parks & Rec  would say, sometimes you just have to treat yo’self 😉

    1. Oo-er missus 😛 well hopefully you find something in the bitbox, maybe just go free-style and see what you can kitbash together? – 10pts
    2. Fair. You can’t really go wrong with the OT can you? –  20pts
    3. I know what you mean about Batman. I’ve been tempted myself, and actually have the metal versions of Green Arrow and Deathstroke, but have struggled to pull the trigger. I was sooo close when they did the Knightfall Azrael-Bats mini but the shipping killed it for me . A shame as when I hear folks talking about it it sounds fantastic 🙁 – 10pts
    4. Yeah, This heat has been brutal. Glad to hear you are ok otherwise – 10pts

Right, i’m off to get some Wolfy boys finished off. Will catch up later folks. Have at it 🙂

@dawfydd I agree with you mate but i’ve been on the hobby weekender since the first one, so I’ve pretty much done something every week for three years, now it feels really wierd to miss three weekends in a row. Sort of like that feeling you get when you know yoou have to do something but can’t remeber what it is. Hellfire mate if this keeps up i’m going to have to start watching Netflix with the wife…. and not the good stuff either…. Romantic weepy type films…. 😀

I checked my bits box and theres just bits, nothing really usefull for what I want to do.

Nah the original Trilogy are classics. I think they lost the plot a bit with the other five films in the series. Waaaaaay back when I was a youngling, before Star Wars became “A New Hope” there was supposed to be nine films but they were all going to be about Luke Skywalker, in fact the books were subtitled “from the Adventures of Luke Skywalker” so I am a bit disappointed with the way things have gone since Return of the Jedi.

Yeah I know what you mean, Shipping can be as much or sometimes more than the Items you buy sometimes. I was in the same boat when Wild West Exodus was done by Outlaw Miniatures in America. Very few places stocked it in the UK and even less stocked the whole range so if I wanted a particular Mini I would have to wait for ages until I wanted enough to make the shipping worth while… and then you have to wait for ages for the flippin things to arrive and then on bigger orders wait for customs to pull their finger out.

Well I hear that’s the secret to a happy relationship @biggabum , calmly discussing the available options then going with what your partner wants to do 😀

Also, my painting for the weekend done:

The Blackmane Great Company finds itself further reinforced by half of Ragnars Wolf Guard, Rune Priest Tyr Pyrewalker (a younger Priest who has more of an afinity for flame than the storm), and two lone Wolves who will either serve as, well, Lone Wolves, Pack Leaders or Battle Leaders.

By my reckoning this takes me to over 1500 points, with another 1500 of Grey Hunters, Blood Claws, Fenrisian Wolves, Long Fangs and Wolf Guard to go 🙂

@dawfydd Nah mate, I wear the trousers in our household… the wife says I can…

Love what you’ve done with the Space Wolves mate. A couple of things really set them off for me. The graduation on the Lightning Claws is excellent, and the skin tones. The highlighting on the faces looks a little subdued which gives them a very natural, more realistic look. What can I say other than excellent work.

Ironically @biggabum I’ve done nothing  to the faces – they are literally Cadian Flesh washed with the same Aggrax Earthshade wash the rest of the models have been hit with 😉

Better late than never! Ok, so I got up after lunch time yesterday after work. After playing some pokemon go, visiting my cousin, and heading to a 40th last night my Saturday was all booked up. I’ve been playing Pokemon Go a lot today too. It is so much fun.

I will be doing a little hobby now, then off to the gym and pool. Tonight is hobby night with a couple of mates too. For now I sprayed some Servitors, a Middle Earth Dragon, my KoB Scouts, and some LOTR Hardrim Abrakhan Guard. Ill do a little work on my chaos knights a tiny bit later with pics to follow soon after.

    Onto the glorious questions!

And also, before I forget, many thanks and much appreciation toward @dawfydd for running this thread! Woooo!!!!!

    1. Pokemon go, outside of my pldge of Chaos Knights. I evolved a Golem, Gengar, Aggron and Gyarados in the last few days. They are powerful, and took a while to get. Im doing some research quests to go after a legendary type and hoping to catch a Regice after two failed attempts capturing it after successful raids. Id also like to play d and d Tuesday and get some Pokemon monopoly Id like to play too.

    2. Rick and Morty for when I feel I need a laugh, Always Sunny in Philadelphia with the guys for a good atmosphere, and Community for when I feel low, sad and apathetic. As for movies I do not watch them so much for background noise anymore, I guess tv shows are easier to digest. Big tolkien fan @dawfydd ?

    3. Regarding Games, Kingdom Death. Im going to be mean this year and treat myself to it this year at Black Friday with my Christmas club and get less presents for people on the periphery of my family and friendship circles. As for a proper mini game, which @dawfydd the 40k player suggests, haha, kididng, I would say Daughters of Khaine or Kharadron Overlords for Age of Sigmar.

Haven’t gotten around to them due to time and money but they are defo on the to do list. Its just they are so unique and more creative than the generic fantasy and tolkienesque rip off armies they did a few years ago. Evil, elven chicks backed up by medusa ladies, all in the name of a dead god of murder and hating chaos? Dwarven steam punk sky pirates with odd codes of honour and conduct? Sign me up for both twice.

I 100% agree with you on the updated aesthetics with the Necrontyr and Dark Eldar. They really hit the ball out of the park when they do something kind of new and not derivative with their own creative teams.

    4. I am great. Lots going on and to do, off for a few days but a tad broke haha. Hitting the gym to do some lifting soon and possinly the gym to cool off after. Looking at bulking up and losing weight (mainly the belly) and shaved my beard off with the heat. Life is good.

@a27cromwell Good to see you on the thread! 🙂

you wouldn’t mind making more paragraphs out of your post? Its hard to read a huge wall of text, no offence.

@biggabum Maybe google solo play games? Id recommend downloading Shovel Knight on xbox or playstation and having a go. Good old retro fun. Not a tabletop game but a good laugh.

Empire Strikes back is always good. BMG is sooooo good. I stay indoors or go to the pool in this weather. It is better for mankind, or an Inrcedible Hulk shall be created. RAAAAAGE! Hahaha.

@dawfydd Ill do my best to go back, it doesen’t help my street cred if I don’t, haha. Pics of the Knights shortly. They are 95% done.

More feedback later gents, the Iron calls to me…

I can try to do paragraphs , I think .  How do you do paragraphs ? Sorry computers and I don’t get along

Oh , I found it . So that’s what that key does lol . I know the key under the back space key moves the cursor over to the left side of the page , when it works because my key board had a nasty hot chocolate incident some time ago and some keys tend to have minds of their own now  .

But this key over by the calculator works just as well  . Wish I’ld found   that out a while ago .MG2 Out of Ammo !

Still plugging away on my Tiger , I’ll post a picture or two here tomorrow ,. Here’s a BA plastic German MG crew I’ve done a little touch up work on

@dawfydd I shall have to get me a bottle of that Aggrax Earthshade, I’ve never used it before. I usually use a dedicated skin wash but find the results too dark (or red in some cases). Do you water it down or use it neat?

@mage good idea. I’ll have a look for Shovel Knight I love Retro games (Manic Miner yay). Some of them are a lot harder than much of the modern fare, which to an owd fart like me seem to focus on visuals rather than playability.

Unfortunately I try to avoid water since an Eskimo tried to harpoon me while I was doing the backstroke…….

@mage well I think you get 10 points just for getting out, braving the giant burning orb in the sky and doing some socialising 😀

    1. Did I miss something about Pokemon Go getting a resurgence? All my friends and contacts who play have been posting their codes like machines…. either way though, top marks for putting in the work to get those little blighters evolved – 10 points
    2. Rick & Morty I class with Archer – great if you want something to chill to, but also asks some big questions. Somehow I’ve completley missed Community & Always Sunny.I know their reps but have somehow never got around to watching them – 10 points (and why yes, I do enjoy Tolkien. Does it show?)
    3. i’ll be honest dude, if I had the funds spare to go in for KD:M I would be joining you. Best I’ve  got is a couple of   adventurers from  one of their sales. And I agree, the Daughters of Khaine, Kharadon Overlords and Idonath Deepkin are a just a breath of fresh air. I’d love to see the old Empire range get the same treatment – 20 points
    4. Well done on hitting the gym -10 points

Music selections – well they’ll get the blood pumping 😉 – 10 points

And no problem. Glad to help  🙂

@a27cromwell digging the MG team –  10 points

@biggabumb It went on neat as I was washing the whole model. It can shade things a bit cold/harshly though so maybe try sometest items first?

And if you  want some classic games may I recommend the fine digital marketplace of Good Old Games, or GOG. They have resurrected some real gems to run  on modern PC’s for not much money-  we’re talking the likes of Syndicate, Chaos Engine and Canon Fodder from the Amiga days, the Wing Commander, Freespace & X-Wing franchises, and my personal faves Battlezone: Combat Commander, Hostile Waters: Anteus Rising, the Homeworld games and I-War 1 & 2.
