MYTHIC BATTLES: RAGNARÖK – Lagertha (Hero)
Lagertha, oh Lagertha! Your life began in whirlwind of abduction and blood, only to finish in hatred and violence. Few men could have withstood the ordeals you endured, and fewer still could have done so with such courage. At Odin’s table, you will sit by the throne alongside the heroes and the gods!
Among the stories sung by the skalds, few combine as much bloodshed and sadness as the tale of Lagertha. She was the daughter of the King of Norway, as beautiful and cold as a blade, and her stature belied her skill with an axe. She grew more talented with every passing season, but everything changed when Frø, the King of Sweden, sailed his longships up to the palace where Lagertha lived. The Norwegians were massacred and the women of the fallen warriors were turned over to the lustful invaders. Lagertha was defiled.
After learning of the pillage, the young Ragnar sounded his horn and called forth the warriors of Denmark to avenge the death of the Norwegian King. When Lagertha heard the roar of combat, she took up arms and flung herself into the fray. In the heat of battle, she made her captors pay a hundred times over for what she had suffered. The sight of Lagertha butchering her foes quickly drew Ragnar’s attention.
But the young man was soon forced to return to Denmark. A group of traitors had used his absence to lay claim to the throne, and the country was trembling under the threat of a clan war. Ragnar begged Lagertha to come to his aid. She had become the leader of her house and heeded the call of her companion in arms. Her army took to the seas and landed in Denmark, where Lagertha led her troops into battle. The enemy soon dispersed and many cowards fled before the warrior queen’s cold fury, every slice of her axe bringing her a step closer to victory.
The stories go on and on, recounting the life a woman who was always powerful, wise, and wild. Never again would she be dishonored. Never again would anyone impose their will upon her without paying the ultimate price. She sacrificed everything, even hiding a spear in her cloak and plunging it into her husband’s heart so she could rule alone.
In Mythic Battles: Ragnarök, Lagertha protects her troops with her “Shield Wall” power, which offers a defense bonus to allied units in her area. She can also use her other “Block” power to force an opponent to reroll up to two dice after rolling for the first assault. Lagertha, oh Lagertha! You were so fearsome in vengeance and in combat. And you will be terrifying at Ragnarök, as the Nine Worlds perish in the chaos.
There are 2 Lagertha miniatures included in the core Mythic Battles Ragnarok box – each with a different left arm, so depending on whether you prefer to see her using her shield or reminding the enemy of the cost of attacking her, you’ll have a choice.
