I’m thinking of getting one or two of the Redgrass Everlasting Wet Palettes. I wondered if any of you had any thoughts on the advantages or disadvantages of getting one ‘Studio XL’ Everlasting Wet Palette versus getting two ‘Painter’ Everlasting Wet Palettes. (The two options have the same combined surface area.) As far as i can see the differences would be that:

One ‘Studio XL’ Everlasting Wet Palette is cheaper than two ‘Painter’ Everlasting Wet Palettes.
One ‘Studio XL’ Everlasting Wet Palette is going to be more difficult to store than two ‘Painter’ Everlasting Wet Palettes.

Is there any advantage to having the one larger ‘Studio XL’ Everlasting Wet Palette’s surface area versus having the two ‘Painter’ Everlasting Wet Palettes’ surface areas?

I’m using the army painter wet palette and I’m not using the complete surface in on session so I don’t really see any advantages on either two palettes or one large one. I think it depends on how many different paints you use in one session to be used over a long time.

I got the Studio XL and is very nice but would prefer the smaller one as it takes alot of room on desk and putting lid some were when using can be annoying.

I have the Redgrass orange “everlasting” wet palette. It’s nice, I suppose. But I don’t really feel any difference between it and my home-made sponge-and-baking-parchment-in-a-school-geometry-set-case set-up. Like @sundancer, I don’t fill the entire area (of my smaller homebrew one even) in a single session, so the extra area doesn’t really offer much benefit.

Personally, I think I prefer the smaller one, just because it takes up less space on the desk. I guess it depends how messy you are and how much clear desk-space you have?

For reference the blue ‘Studio XL’ Everlasting Wet Palette is 30cm x 20cm, the orange ‘Painter’ Everlasting Wet Palette is 15cm x 20cm, and the Army Painter Wet Palette is 13.8cm x 19.8cm.

I was thinking i might get one ‘Painter’ Everlasting Wet Palette for now and then a second one if i needed the extra space, which from reading what the rest of you have written would seem to be the better option. Putting aside price, i would suppose the only reason i might want the ‘Studio XL’ Everlasting Wet Palette is if i needed 30cm worth of wet blending.

    Any other brands people use?

What size are peoples’ home made wet palettes?

was in on the original kickstarter, got both, have only opened and used the smaller one. No space for the XL, yet…. great piece of kit

I have the smaller one, and it isn’t that airtight so dries out faster than any homemade one i’ve ever used or the Daler-Rowney my dad bought me when I started painting again.  The only thing going for it is the size and not having to cut grease proof to fit.

I have the smaller one and rarely fill a sheet in a session or two unless I’m working on something big.  The larger one takes more desk space than I have and I just can’t seeing needing the extra space.  I did stock up on the papers and have no regrets there either.  Since I was in on the Kickstart mine came with a second sponge and after a couple of years of using the first one I can see the wisdom of having it.

It is a quality product that has become one of my go-to painting tools.

I agree with Robert. my painter one is also not airtight either so when the lid is on so it does dry out after a while. it does last long enough for me to deal with it though.

overall I am happy with the product including the size (smaller painter one) but as everyone knows its not appropriately named.

I have and use the normal one regularly without any issues. I would think that unless you are painting full-time the XL version is overkill.

Another one here with the smaller one and find it more than sufficient. You’d likely need to be doing a lot of blending to need a the larger one.
