### Start of shameless copy and paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/
Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy and paste ###
Question of the week:
- Less is more. Have you ever tried down sizing your hobby by either “buying less” or by going “smaller scales”? And how did that work for you?
And now back to the show.
April 5, 2025 at 10:19 am #1923298Pledge: paint my mechs. hopefully.
Answer: Never did scale back on the quantity but then again I don’t spend tons of cash in one go. Scaling down in size will be an interesting thing once my Armoured Clash arrives. Stay tuned!

April 5, 2025 at 10:25 am #1923299down sizing ?
that a thing that can be done ?
’cause I’ve got no luck with that as I simply can’t decide on one game to collect&play.
There’s always “just one more” …April 5, 2025 at 11:11 am #1923301Pledge of the week is start assembly of Traitors Toll as I need break from Afrika Korps.
I bought Flames of War starter and assembled, but not painted it or tried it. At the time I just fancied something WW2 instead of fantasy or sf.
April 5, 2025 at 12:19 pm #1923302Pledge updated… I’ve done the first sprue of watchmen.
So that’s 3 sprues of watchmen and 6 sprues of revolting masses… the unwashed… peasants… common people…
With the peasants I may feel the urge to throw in a bearded lady 🙂
Edit: Done 1 sprue of peasants too.

April 5, 2025 at 3:17 pm #1923331Pledge: battle on with Victrix 12mm US Infantry; Necrons are down to 5 models to paint!
Less is more. Have you ever tried down sizing your hobby by either “buying less” or by going “smaller scales”? And how did that work for you?
I used to be a huge 6mm fanatic, but as the wind blows, so do my interests, and now I’m back at GW, with a side of Legions (that’s small!), and of course Battletech.
The Victrix 12mm doesn’t count as it all is going back to them for their website. But I might want to get some for myself!
In honour of my new black Gibson SG to go along with my Malcolm Young Gretsch:
April 5, 2025 at 10:07 pm #1923379Hi all. I’ve decided to be a bit more sociable so thought I’d join you all here.
Pledge: Work on my Spring Clean Challenge army. Finish the Midgard army lists for the Slaine project.
Topic: I have never deliberately tried “buying less” but I do go through phases when I don’t buy many miniatures, either because I’m saving up to buy something or I’m spending my hobby money on other stuff like bases or paints. I did try going smaller scale some years ago as an alternative to 28mm which is my preference. I did some DBA in 15mm and had a large collection of Warmaster and then started on the excellent Copplestone LotR 10mm fantasy as well. I enjoyed painting them when I could see properly but now I need glasses for close work I have switched back to 28mm. I did trade/sell all of the smaller scale stuff and reinvest in God’s own scale though so it wasn’t a waste 😀
My music taste is more varied than the usual rock you guys seem to prefer. Today I had some Jungle on.

That’s a fail then 🙂 How do I get the video to embed in the post?
April 6, 2025 at 7:30 am #1923402Just post the link! It embeds itself.
April 6, 2025 at 10:18 am #1923405Thank you.
April 6, 2025 at 10:26 am #1923406I did get the basing scheme sorted out for the Spring Clean Challenge project. Lots of tufts to choose from:
April 6, 2025 at 12:23 pm #1923414@zoidpinhead welcome mate! That’s a lot of tufts. Do you make them yourself or do you buy ready made?
I’m still waiting for AC (obviously because Imperium still isn’t out for another 3 weeks) but the Battletech Merc stuff is primed and waits for me. But I have the week of so maybe progress can be made?
Back to the XLBS.
April 6, 2025 at 2:14 pm #1923436This week’s pledge is to do some skin painting practice. I just finished painting a load of 75mm figures from a recent kickstarter. I deliberately bought them to practice various skin tones on them.
Yesterday I finished my Rascal Town Gnome and updated my project: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1912086/
- Less is more. Have you ever tried down sizing your hobby by either “buying less” or by going “smaller scales”? And how did that work for you? – To be honest, since I don’t play anymore since Covid, I have no drive to buy more and more to keep up with evolving list requirements. So in that sense I have downscaled. These days I just paint models that catch my interest. I did a 6mm fantasy army a couple of years ago just to give it a go.
April 6, 2025 at 6:33 pm #1923494Weekend almost gone …
and exactly nothing got done.
I never know how I do it, so …
screw it ?

Chap Hop anyone ?
April 7, 2025 at 9:22 am #1923569It’s the sirens call of the social media internet stream stuff. Sitting like a mindless zombie in front of the screen. I am currently doing the same. Though I could be painting some minis. Because I have the week off.
I HAVE THE WEEK OFF! Huzzah!
God how good it feels for once not being needed to do this, go here or just wait for something to asplode.
10:21. Still 12 hours left in the day. Potentially I still could paint 😉
