    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    • Favourite Lord of the Rings character? Also: Ben is out for some stuff, post ALL the LotR content now! go! go! go!

My pledge: trying to finish the almost finished Star Wars dudes.

My answer is: that hobbit that talked back to the ring wraiths. Can’t remember his name.

    Music: Some Zappa

No pledge this week – likely too hot for painting. May do a lot of solo board gaming though.

    • Favourite Lord of the Rings character? Also: Ben is out for some stuff, post ALL the LotR content now! go! go! go! Been a long time since I saw any of the movies.  I’ll go with that Hobbit farmer that chases the hobbits off his field right near the start. If it weren’t for him, the fellowship would never have got together and Sauron would certainly have won!

    Lord of the Rings ?
Isn’t that the book about the guy who gets a ring for his birthday from his dad ?
And then the little fcker goes on a long holiday to throw it away ?

His dad is odd too. The fcker goes raiding a dragon horde with this group of tiny people because some old dude thought it would be a ‘fun’ thing to do.

It’s going to be too bloody hot to do anything this week.
But I do want to finish flooring my room … some day.
Best part of this project is that I probably will set it to ‘spring clean 2026’ next year 😉

I think the one that talked to the ringwraith was probably Farmer Maggot.

I always felt that Sam was the real star of the story.

Pledge of the week is to at least prime the 0200 Hours miniatures that I just finished assembling. Also build the prepainted terrain when it arrives.

    poor ol’ Sam.
Getting caught up in that sh!t because he happened to be gardening near the window where Gandalf and Frozone were talking.

And near the end he’s the one who lifts his friend up and practically drags him up mount Doom.

Frodo would never have made it without Samwise.

I’d also argue that by cutting the return to the Shire they did great injustice to all the hobbitses.

    Where did the weekend go?!?  Oh well;

Pledge: Work out my half year completions and post a progress update onto the Hobby Pledges 2025 thread by close of play on Monday.  Get started building skeletons this week.

Favourite LotR character – don’t need to look much past Gandalf, although Galadriel has a lot going for her too.  I’d love to post loads of Middle Earth stuff but I’m not working on any at the moment.

I kind of like Smeagol/Gollum. Especially when he’s talking to himself.

Even before the movies the final lines from Gollum in The Hobbit were so full of character :

“Thief, thief, thief! Baggins! We hates it, we hates it, we hates it forever!”

Such a shame they added so much unneeded crap to that book in order to expand it into a trilogy.
It should have been a tv-series instead of a trilogy of movies, because so much stuff is happening that adds to the story. It’s the kind of stuff that’s not good in a movie as it needs time to work.

LotR worked as a trilogy, because it had 3 separate arcs within the story as it was written.
The big battle in the Hobbit is barely a few sentences long as it was irrelevant to the story. Turning that into a movie just to pad out the ending of the trilogy was the worst decision ever.

@limburger I have to agree with you about the Hobbit films, “they delved too greedily and too deep” on that one for sure.

I think the one that talked to the ringwraith was probably Farmer Maggot.

Wasn’t that the same one chasing Merry and Pippin?

    Where did the weekend go?!?

A very good question. My answer to that is: In bed. My body decided “fuck this” and turned on me. Saturday was just a lazy day on the couch but Sunday remains a mystery. I was in bed until 5pm and sweating like a pig. Feeling a wee bit better now but still. Somethings simmering in the background.

Let’s hope the week goes better

I’m not sure if it is farmer Maggot in the books who talks to the Ring Wraiths, but then I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a change to the script for the movie.

Maggot is definitely the one that’s chasing the hobbitses in the early part. They stole his fruits after all, so can’t blame him.

remember : the gang are basically teenagers at that point in the story.  Old by human standards, but too young to be considered adults by hobbit standards.

yeah that’s my main problem with all that movie stuff. In the book years, decades go by. But you can’t translate that to a movie. People will be falling asleep XD
