    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Questions:

    • Will G’Wullu drive sales from other rank & file game systems to “The Old World” in a way that it will hurt other companies?
    • Do old WHFB players even care about what G’Wullu is up to even any more?
    • Has 9th age imploded yet?

And now back to the show.

Pledge: get my sorry ass back in gear and continue with the projects at hand.

    Answers:

    • I hope not. Would be a shame.
    • Most probably not. Some definitely. Time will tell.
    • Maybe?

    Musik for the weekend:

This weeks pledge is to paint the Warhammer+ subscriber’s model from year two.

I finished the first year’s model yesterday: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1794968/

    • Will G’Wullu drive sales from other rank & file game systems to “The Old World” in a way that it will hurt other companies? – Hard to say. I think for many once they moved away from GW and realised other options are out there, they’ll never go back to “just GW”.
    • Do old WHFB players even care about what G’Wullu is up to even any more? – I’m passingly interested. Love the 40k background and fluff. AoS less so.
    • Has 9th age imploded yet? – No idea. Never got into it.

My pledge is not miniatures related…

In a moment of madness I have decided to use the One Ring rules as the mechanics for a modern world game with bikers seeking redemption to avoid going to hell… shadow mechanics of One Ring should help with that… so my pledge is to create a prototype character sheet for the ‘One Ride’ campaign that I plan to run in 2024 (I’m taking a GM break for a few months and handing over to someone else as I feel burned out).

    Now… the questions…

I think that a lot of people still resent that GW destroyed the Old World and are either still playing their own version, or have switched to another company… and the forge world cost will put a lot of people off, especially those that 3D print… so I think it will have minimal effect on other companies.

Does anyone care what GW are up to? I don’t buy any of their minis for the bullshit… I mean lore… I buy them if they look cool. However… not all lore is bullshit as I really like what Privateer Press did with Hordes and Warmachine… possibly because not everyone in the PP universe is an evil bastard…

    I’ve heard of 9th Age… but that’s about it… no comment.

A lovely Sunday morning to all of you. I hope this message finds you well.

Already 1pm on this Sunday and I just now watch the XLBS.

I think I had a mental breakthrough in regards to hobby and butterflying. But I need to put more thought into that and maybe to a longer write up on it.

If I do not forget it. My mind is a sieve.

I need to focus completely on the terrainFest project this week. I have made good progress all the stuff has been “built” and primed. So I need to focus on the painting.

    So I need to finish

    2 Towers

    1 Gateway

    6 Buildings

    Barrels

That would give me at table at least up to table top standard for the end of TerrainFest.

Will G’Wullu drive sales from other rank & file game systems to “The Old World” in a way that it will hurt other companies?

The only two fantasy rank and file products that i can think of in terms of sales are Kings of War and Conquest. Kings of War is perhaps the only one it might impact. Judging the people who play it locally seem very passionate about the game even if they play the old world I dont see them leaving Kings of War for it.

Conquest is quite a different game. Nobody plays it locally or even talks about it. It is difficult to judge how sales are for it let alone what impact it might have.

I think what people forgot about GW is how much their games drives the hobby. My local store shifted over 100 boxes of 10th edition in 2 weeks. He made more money from that than most games lines will in a year. Not only that but all the people that come down to play the game, all the extras bought in terms of paint, grass tuffs. Even a lot of non GW products get sold off the back of these games. The launch of Old world will drive up sales across the board.

I think it increases sales and add’s to hobby. Perhaps the people today that start the old world now will in 10 – 15 years be the ones that move on to black power or Saga ?

Do old WHFB players even care about what G’Wullu is up to even any more?

Yes those in the hobby do at least. People often say they dont care. Well for people that dont care they spend a hell of a lot of time on social media about it. If people did not care either love or hate they would just go do something else. The fact that they are still following the news, still watching the youtube videos about it shows people care.

    Has 9th age imploded yet?

Its free to download, and is great game. However the number of really active players is just in the hundreds. In the UK perhaps the biggest market it was about 250. Now people might play the odd game now and then but active players are pretty low.  Nothing to imploded as such. It is not a product line which has sales, its a community project they update when they have time.

From what I have seen people in 9th age are happy to see the old world. They get access again to the models, hopefully the ruleset appears to be following previous editions. Its a Win / Win for 9th age as well.

9pm on Sunday and I’m finally sitting down to the XLBS and a bit of hobby. Pledge for this week is more skeletons and putting together some Rohan riders for the next Battle Streams in Middle Earth episode.

I think I had a mental breakthrough in regards to hobby and butterflying. But I need to put more thought into that and maybe to a longer write up on it.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts. I know I’ve been struggling with sticking with projects this year and I’ve been annoyed with myself about it.

Some of the questions are a bit too ” niche” or specific for me.
I’m utterly ambivalent towards GW. I don’t get why so many people hate on them, or make fun of them, or call them names. I don’t understand why some people think they’re the bees knees. Generally, they make great looking minis, they’re quite expensive and their game rules stink. Their lore and fluff is fun if you’re into that kind of thing, but it’s nothing to get upset about.

Will G’Wullu drive sales from other rank & file game systems to “The Old World” in a way that it will hurt other companies?
I don’t understand what’s being asked – do you think GW will absorb hobby pennies because their stuff is better than (or at least preferable to) stuff being put out by other companies? Maybe. I’ve only printed minis for the last three or four years, but occasionally am still tempted to buy a box of Space Marines, just because GW makes cool looking minis. Some people who like rank and file games might decide to spend their pennies with GW too, for a similar reason. Is this “hurting” other companies? Not unless they’re resting on their laurels.

Do old WHFB players even care about what G’Wullu is up to even any more?
No idea. Fantasy’s not my thing. They may.

    Has 9th age imploded yet?
    What’s 9th age?

    Here’s some music.
The Bites are an old-school LA hair metal band. But from 2023. It’s like Marty McFly’s bigger brother hitched a lift in the Delorean and brought 1985 back to the future.

I’ve not managed to get any hobby done for a week or more. But sometimes real life just gets in the way, I guess. This week, I’m determined to be super-conscientious at work, stop procrastinating throughout the day and free up my evenings again to lick some brushes. Can’t wait!

@redscope oh yes, this is very much true. But then again maybe they don’t care about TOW as such but what it means for other games?  Who knows. At least it provides a talking point for me on the uHH XD

Look forward to hearing your thoughts. I know I’ve been struggling with sticking with projects this year and I’ve been annoyed with myself about it.

@gorram I’ll make sure then to let you all know when I put my words on paper (so to speak) Also: Skellibobs for the win! I feel skeletons are the most rewarding thing to paint. They just work. Hard to screw them up.

    What’s 9th age?

@blinky465 it’s basically a fan driven version of Warhammer Fantasy Battle. When G’Wullu killed the old world after 8th edition fans created 9th edition and ran with it. I’ve never played it myself but have been told it’s a very chart driven Excel like game. So it’s for hardcore WHFB players.

your paint isn’t thin enough – that’s more than likely causing the bubbling. Or your needle is shot, or there’s fast drying accumulation at the tip of your needle.

@grantinvanman (pulling you from the old thread over) Even pure water and cleaner were bubbling. I inspected the needle under magnifying glasses and it looks fine but it could be damaged in a way I can’t see. Either way I have replaced them both and still need to muster some courage to go back into the garage to test it.

Another thing to look at is your pressure. I run 18-20 psi TOPS. With a water trap, and filtered. All my connections are gas-taped for zero loss. It’s worth it.

My compressor has a water trap and IIRC it’s set to 2 BAR (29psi), Thanks for your input. I do get the suspicion that I might have used paints not thin enough to start with (though I did thin the Vallejo Airbrush paints) and then damaged the needle and/or seat in the process of cleaning. If all else fails I’ll need to get myself a new Airbrush of the workhorse class.

With that said: Hello it’s Monday morning and I want my weekend back. Where is my coffee? XD

Completely agree, I find also most of the conversations online are so laden with agendas it is a waste of time to engage with them. It is exhausting. I like to see what’s coming up the same way I read the news every day, it’s good to know what is going on in the hobby regardless of which company is involved.

Skellibobs for the win! I feel skeletons are the most rewarding thing to paint. They just work. Hard to screw them up.

I think that’s why they’ve been perfect for right now. Hobbying is an uphill battle at the moment and having something that is easy to get right and look good is a big help.

The weekend seemed to disappear faster than usual… which is a problem because this is my six day week at work. Bugger. Oh well, have a good week everyone.

    Well it’s Monday.

I did add I said – stayed focussed, did real work, got ahead of myself and submitted some code for review. So I’ve got this evening to myself.

Following on from the other thread, I feel like starting something new and exciting. But I’ve also got half a dozen not-Space-Marines I stayed a few weeks ago that need finishing off, so I might force myself to actually finish something for a change

Normally I’d be like “ugh, no, new and shiny please” but I’m feeling so pleased with myself for actually making room for some hobby time this evening, I think I can tackle them with a spring in my step and a song in my heart ?

Looking forward to closing the laptop down in a little while and wetting my brushes at last!

Looking forward to see the results of your not-so-spacey-marines.

I’m working slowly towards the finish of Secret Satan. Feels good. Even if it didn’t go as planned XD

I’ve always wanted to paint Chaos Space Marines but was put off by all the spikes and gribbley bits. Painting this one wasn’t that bad, but I did pick a particularly easy paint scheme. Still happy with the outcome though.
