Pension my friend… pension! I’m not wealthy. I just served my time. I’m not even close to being a 1% wealthy person 🤣

it’s about 20 years yet for me … that’s if they don’t change the rules before that time.

So unless I win the lottery and get a big fat payout I doubt pension is going to be enough for this hobby.

OTOH … I may have collected enough to keep me playing and painting for centuries 😉

Mantic doing two new advent calendars (Worms and Walking dead) … who’s gonna collect them all ?

I was hoping I could start this year without looking at new kickstarters, but I was wrong.

    New calendar yes please 8)

Speaking of Kickstarters: anybody wants to invest in open source “instagram” PixelFed? You can do so now:

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pixelfed/pixelfed-foundation-2024-real-ethical-social-networks

And no: you don’t get anything out of it. It’s funding a software project that is open source. (Unless you *really* spend some money. Then you’ll be quoted as Sponsor on the page of the dev)

In other news: my bike is going to the shop next week. Current temperatures are making the clutch and gears slip like crazy and it’s almost impossible to actually drive. People in the know (and the shop owner) made me aware of the fact that my setup is not oil fed or swimming in oil or grease but just has a film of oil for lubrication and should be refreshed every 12 months. But you need to disassemble half of the bike to do so and still winter will make it go “crunch”.

So regular service this time will include switching from oil to “proper grease”. Hopefully then I will ride again and not sound like a bag of bolts.

By “bike” do you mean “motorcycle” @sundancer ?

I used to own a Harley, and it was a PIG for service. Milwaukee iron, before the days of off-shore builds. And still horrible. Although one of the last Milwaukee factory bikes. Air cooled 883cc.

And of other bikes, I’m divesting my bike-packing custom build of 2 years ago (few km), to get another Brompton to travel with a buddy, who’s currently in Seoul but will likely be in the Balkans when I meet up with him.

    Nope, ordinary bicycle.

My bike is sitting in the garage for years now because the timing chain broke and I haven’t gotten around to fixing it. Replacement engine is sitting there but it’s chain driven but the old one was belt driven. So parts needs to be switched and I just don’t have the time or mindset for that. *sigh*

I never got into the belt driven craze. Chains just made more sense. I guess I wasn’t wrong?

good luck with that project! I have all the tools to build and strip bikes in my garage, and I enjoy the work. But it’s still work…

I think you got me wrong: the belt drive is all fine. The timing chain inside the engine broke and caused catastrophic engine damage. My brother got a used replacement engine but that came from a chain driven bike. Belt drive itself is nice for a small low power bike like mine. Less maintenance than a chain. So I now need to swap engines and then swap the chain drive stuff from the new engine with with belt drive stuff from the old one *or* I need to replace the rear wheel belt drive parts with chain drive parts. Either way: a fuck ton of work XD (I do enjoy wrenching but it’s too time consuming)

If you enjoy wrenching I’m sure you’ll enjoy this YouTube channel if you don’t already know it:

    Engine? Other than legs? 😆

    Complexity! Cool video!

Mucking around with engines is all fine and dandy for you gentlemen. I opted to learn how to cook in school when given the option instead of small engine repair. So far I must admit that the knowledge of engines might’ve been useful, however, I have found myself cooking much more than I’ve ever had to rebuild anything that size. Airbrushes are as complicated as I get and they’re pretty simple by comparison.
