    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • Working from home. Benefit or bane to the hobby?

And now back to the show.

Pledge: Update my Frostgrave project, prime some minis and maybe even paint them.

    My answer ist:

    yes

It benefits because you have all your books at hand if you want to take a short break and look something up. But at the same time it’s a bane because I’m sitting at the same desk for work and hobby so it’s always making me feel guilty when I do hobby and not work. It’s a double edged sword.

    Music for today:

Pledge: Get started on the cavalry for my Spring Clean project

Question: WFH did benefit my hobby time as I had a 1 hour commute in each direrction so that 2 hours could go straight onto the hobby desk.  I also liked taking a quick break by doing a bit of research or putting a bit of paint on something, much better than what I might do in the office.  I was lucky to have separate setups for my hobby and home work spaces and I’m sure that made concentrating in both spaces easier.

Pledge: paint four Eldar grav tanks

Question: I was already retired when WFH became a thing, so it didn’t impact me! But I think that WFH would have been good for hobby, as lunches would be better occupied than hanging around talking with people I little cared for, or wandering around the downtown walkways when the weather was good.

In celebration of me ordering a double neck SG (albeit an Epiphone, and not the Gibson version) guitar this week, here’s the classic:

Oh nice! Phone is starting to act up (or maybe the SIM card, tests are ongoing) but I have Armoured Clash inbound! 8)

My iPhone went wonky last Christmas, no 5G – turns out it was just the sim. Ironically by going to the local shop to confirm, I got a new phone for less than my monthly bill on the wonky but now ok one. So that worked out ok. Good luck with yours!

Thankfully some other people have come forward telling me “yeah, my SIM was wonky and making my life hard” so I’m going to try that next.

Also:  not wanting to alarm any one but I already did 2 of my three pledges! Frostgrave project updated and the Star Wars: Legion minis I was building during HHH on Wednesdays are primed!

    I’M UNSTOPPABLE!

Pledge… spend a load of money on stuff I don’t need next Friday at UK Games Expo (only pledge I ever stand a chance of completing).

I’m a postman. Working from home not really practical…

However, for the first six months of covid I was not allowed to share a van with anyone and I can’t drive. So the daily ritual was walk a mile to work. Prepare my duty. Walk home. Wait for someone to drop the mail at my house. Load a trolley. Walk half a mile to delivery. Deliver mail. Repeat until all mail delivered.

It wasn’t too bad to be honest. Just put my headphones on and work alone. It was quite funny watching terrified people pointing at the step so I’d leave the parcel there as they were scared to open the door because of ‘the plague’. My experience of covid was weird. No time off work and no one at work passed covid to any work colleague giving the impression it was less contagious than the pandemic politicians had us believe.

Several of my friends had six months off on full pay and are still working from home 3 or 4 days a week.

@sundancer Go you!  Congrats on being unstopable (so far 🙂 )

Warlord Games newsletter tells me that all of the 2000AD ranges are going in the bin and a rather mean level of firesale has started.  I guess the licence agreement has come to an end.  I went all in on the Slaine range but the sculpts are very dynamic so don’t bear having multiples on the table.  The game was a disappointment as Slaine won everything easily, which didn’t even happen in the graphic novels.  I was never interested in the Judge Dredd range and Strontium Dog and ABC Warriors felt a bit bolted on.   I wonder why they never went for Rogue Trooper which seems a natural for a skirmish wargame but perhaps the rights have gone with the up-coming film?

Wargames Atlantic and Mongoose have the 2000AD range now, @zoidpinhead , so yeah, fire sale grab what you can from WG. I think Paul Sawyer was heavily into the 2000AD stuff, and with his passing maybe less appetite at WG? No real idea.

or the license just moving on because the owners of the license just want the maximum amount of money for the least amount of effort.

    // —

    It’s both.
When I get in the zone it’s nice to not have to worry about the commute.
However when I don’t get going there’s too many possible distractions.

I do have better airconditioning at the office, which is nice when the evil day star is doing its thing in the summar.

    Pledge ?
As always try and do something so I can do hobby at home for reals. I’ve got plenty of space (one room for my gaming, one for my hobby … and a tiny room for sleeping). All I really need is to make sure that I store all my hobby related bits in a more efficient manner than simply throwing them in a box and calling it done.

I’ve also managed to collect quite a few DIY tools, which means I need proper storage for those somewhere.
So … organising chaos is kind of my thing now. 😀
And I’m kind of stuck as I don’t know how to do it without getting distracted.

At least next weekend is extra long (due to ascension holiday on thursday). I hope to have some good ideas by then.

I’ve seen that and my wallet went into hiding XD Back in 2012 I backed the “Judge Dredd Miniatures Game: Block War” KS with a lot of minis and a game. Minis got painted, game never played. 2018 the KS was marked “complete” and IIRC at that time Mongoose Publishing lost the rights to it. Seems like the rights holders always move on from one place to another. To keep things fresh? To keep cash flowing? Who knows!

Now, if you’ll excuse me I have a Weekender to watch.

I’m off work this week, which usually means I do less hobby since my routine is disrupted. That said, now that the weather here in the UK has cooled I should really finish the model I was painting. After posting this I’ll be watching the weekender and try to get back into painting.

    • Working from home. Benefit or bane to the hobby? – When I did WFH during Covid, it made no difference. I’m quite rigid with my timekeeping so work time was work time and hobby was done in the evenings. No real difference from when I travel to and from work.

This is the big problem with any license.
You never know when the license expires and what the next company will do to it.

And because there’s no standard scale within this industry the chances of new figures matching the old ones in scale are practically zero. That’s assuming the style doesn’t change either which is a bit of a gamble as well.

The biggest issue is that the stock will have to be destroyed so good luck collecting any of a variant you like once the license expires.

I’d love to see a Dredd game done in a style to match the Karl Urban movie, but a more comic book style could be cool too.
Such a shame that multiple iterations of a license can’t co-exist.
