    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    Introduce yourselves (New member thread)

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • What is your current favourite tabletop miniatures game?

And now back to the show.

Pledge: Continue work on the legally distinct Leia in slave costume.

    Answer of the week:

    • Even though CGL did a number on the game over all I still enjoy Batteltech the most. Mainly because it’s the only game I currently get to play. Maybe some Frostgrave or Armoured Clash? We will see.

    Music for the Monday:

Pledge is to paint something that I want to paint instead of something I need to paint.

I’m not very good at having favourites. I used to really enjoy Warmachine and Hordes with Circle being my favourite army and that’s why I have started a late Spring Clean Challenge to (hopefully) improve them.

Over the last six months I’ve played 7TV, Bolt Action and Dead Man’s Hand… plus Silver Bayonet if you count solo.

Only played Bolt Action once so I can’t say how much I like it, but having my Panzer 3 taken out in the first turn was unpleasant.

Enjoyed painting the gangs for 7TV, DMH and Silver Bayonet as it was an excuse to put paint on some miniatures by Crooked Dice and Black Scorpion who both do excellent sculpts.

If I had to choose one then I think it would be Dead Man’s hand because I really like my ‘Daughters of the West’ gang.

Still the weekend in the UK and Ireland today so you aren’t (that) late.

Pledge:  Get the first unit of Shuwa Arabs for my Spring Clean finished.

Question – Current favourite tabletop game is probably Midgard Heroic Battles, and I’ve not even got as far as playing that one yet 🙂  If that is cheating a bit then the ones I enjoy playing the most are the grand scale games like Strength and Honour and Blucher.  They provide a very enjoyable series of tactical problems that most other games don’t because of the scale.  Strength and Honour is also an absolute hoot because of the end mechanic “Homunculus Est”.

Progress on the Arabs on Sunday.  All the paint is on, just waiting for them to fully dry before a quick varnish and then sorting out the basing.  OTT not letting me post an image atm :\

    favourite miniatures game ?

If it has to include playing then none.

If it doesn’t then it is whatever is the flavour of the moment … so I’m saying Bolt-Action.
(a few things fell into my virtual shopping basket when I was looking at the Warlord website yesterday 😉 )

At the moment I’m trying to build motivation to finish my hobby room. I blame the tropical heat we had last week.
It’s not fun to do anything when it’s 25 degrees Celcius inside. It’s cooler now, so less procastinating … I hope … maybe … we’ll see.

Not having any idea of what and where to store stuff isn’t helping, but I think just taking out stuff that need not be in there should be a good start.

Speaking of “virtual shopping baskets”. I am still waiting on:

    Order #1:

    • Oathmark – Skeleton Infantry

    Order #2

    • Armoured Clash – Imperium Introductory Set

I seem to have a “lucky” hand in ordering stuff that is not available. CURSES! Not that I would have the time to make the Skellibob comparison video right now or build two forces for Armoured Clash XD

@sundancer – I’ve been drawn back in by all the commission painting, to the current edition. I might even get in a game later this year. 🤣

This week’s pledge is to get back into painting. Had a holiday and then a very busy week at work and it’s knocked me out of my routine.

    • What is your current favourite tabletop miniatures game? – I haven’t played since before Covid, so I can only pick based on aesthetics. Conquest probably appeals to me the most in that regard. Age of Sigmar releases recently haven’t floated my boat.

Had a holiday and then a very busy week at work and it’s knocked me out of my routine.

Isn’t it weird that how “having more spare time” totally can lead to “do nothing” in the hobby?

Last night I actually finished the not-Leia model (final varnish coat needed) and did some more work on my (and don’t tell Gerry) broch. But now I’m out of bricks. I *also* did an inventory on my current state of Star Wars Legion minis that don’t have a mini carry tray as the others have. 129 minis. Half of those are already done painted. So I need to make at least 3 of my army carry trays. Oh my.

    Now, of to work!

yeah, during work weeks it’s like “ain’t got time to hobby”
And then when it’s an extra day off there somehow isn’t any time to do hobby either.

Or rather … there’s so many things I can do that I often don’t do anything at all.

At least last friday the heat didn’t exactly make for good hobby weather. It was so friggin’ hot I practically needed the weekend to cool down to normal operating temperatures.

I sort of managed to start clean up/organise my hobby space, so there’s that. Somehow I managed to get going and not be distracted too much. I hope I can continue doing so this week.

Damn it … Mantic doing another kickstarter. It’s Dreadball.
I kind of wished fewer shiny things kept popping up.

And just like that a week has come and gone. Given the current state of the forum (from the last 5 entries 3 are mine and the second to fifth entry are older than 3.5 days) I would guess barely anybody is active here currently.

That being said I will continue this thread for this week and start a new one on Friday/Saturday. If I don’t forget.

Why wasn’t I so much active in the forum the last week? Simply put: I had almost no time to sit down and use the internet for hobby. Multiple reasons.

My daughter had to do a group assignment with two other girls on a subject they never had done before and that is supposed to be the replacement for a written test in two different school subjects. Deadline was Saturday midnight. Group assignments are bad to coordinate at the best of time but for 13 year olds with a task they have never done before this turned out to be a nightmare. The teacher really did a number on the kids with this one. Luckily the school year is almost over and next year the class is getting a fresh set of teachers. The kids were told to use a piece of software they never used before to write a song (what most of them never did before) about a subject they barely touched on in school. I’ve never seen my daughter cry that much in any of her 13 years prior to this week. (And by her records, everybody was weeping at some point). And to put some icing on that cake: last week also contained 3 written exams in other school subjects.

So by Sunday we (daughter, wife and I) where pretty much completely done for and could have stayed in bed for ever. But Sunday was Mothers Day in Germany and so of we went to the dragon my mother in law. An hours drive there, nice dinner in an Indian restaurant and an hours drive back. With some sitting around and talking in between. We started at 8am and where back at home 5pm. Absolutely wasted.

So as I’m writing this I am in the office and coffee (all hail coffee) is doing it’s thing. Pardon my ramblings but that needed venting.

Though I didn’t get to do much hobby I did build something on Saturday. I’m pretty sure @avernos will approve of this.

[Here should appear a picture of a squirrel feeder but the forum doesn’t accept the picture]

Parked the picture in my project:

I totally sympathise with your lack of hobby impetus given the weekend you’ve had.  Family always comes first so it is great that you have been able to give appropriately to them.

I like the look of the squirrel feeder.  I’ve not seen one before – I presume the access is only big enough for squirrels to get into and the larger birds who would also be interested pecking at their nuts can’t get in?

I’m finding using Forums a bit frustrating atm, particularly not being able to post pledge progress shots (so you’ll have to imagine an update shot of my second Shuwa Arab unit).  I don’t put those on my project so it would be good to show them here rather than having to go on Discord.  I appreciate the site is mid-rebuild so I guess we’ll just have to be patient.  I’m glad Projects are still working well though.  Hopefully their bit of the rebuild is finished.

The top part is a lid so when a squirrel goes in the lid lifts enough for it to get in and out. Birds tend not to get the head in and even if so it’s filled with walnuts so a bird would need to get “all in” to be able to grab one with the talons and not the beaker. It’s the second feeder in place. First one has decayed over the last years.

Yeah for some reason the forum is not accepting picture at the moment. @tgu3 are you aware of this? Should we open a “ticket” in the tech support forum?
