I think the divorce is superfluous after the killing.

Have you considered wearing her clothes? When she finds you in them she will probably leave you and that frees up some space.

@grantinvanman 6000 $ and you still want to change things ? Yikes.
I thought that when you spend that kind of money the thing is supposed to be perfect …

Remember the last time a German wanted more (Lebens)raum ?
ok … so technically he was an Austrian, but the point still stands 😉

    //
My new pc is assembled, case is closed, crimes are hidden (mostly).
I only have to move it to its proper location.

Did I mention it has an actual glass side panel ?
Not sure what kind of insane idiot things that actual glass was a good idea for these things. I have to be real careful moving the thing.

    Anyways …

Organising your hobby room is the one thing no one ever talks about, is it ?
I have managed to add as much storage capacity to mine as I could (afford) at this time, but I have no real clue how to actually organise my stuff.

I know there’s going to be stuff that has to go into the attic … but other than that I have no bloody clue how to organise stuff and (real important) find it again.

What kind of order do you guys use ?
Or is it simply : put it on a stack and hope that when you need something it’s not at the bottom of the biggest pile somewhere in the far corner of your house?

It’s not perfect but I finally did some reorganisation. Is it still stuffed? Yes. Is my desk at least free now? YES! Can I see where what is and get it without deconstructing towers of boxes? Mostly yes.

Now, hobby mojo, come back you fickle beast!

maybe all you need is a bit more broch in your life ?

I am going with reference cards, Double sided Character cards with stats one side and details of special rules on the back. (tarot sized) Plus a pair of quick reference sheets.

The book currently has very limited fluff. This will change once the game is more complete.

I want pen and ink hand drawn art inside with a splashy front cover in full colour.

The examples of rules will be mostly diagrams with the odd photo if it conveys the rule better. I will have stats and setup for the 5 factions I have so far. As it’s a skirmish game there is little reason to leave any out. I will split up the different sections of the book with Photos of miniatures and games in progress.

I’m currently in contact with a professional writer, I’m hoping to bring him on board for some world building. He has a lot of contact with artists who also may become involved dependent on my very limited budget.

It’s a bit weird (in a good way) to have peoples opinion on “how rulebooks should be” and right next to that someone goes “I’m doing it this way!” XD

Tuesday. Hope everybody is alright. What happened last night? Atomic Mass Games seems to take a very “from the roots up” approach on video tutorials for Star Wars: Legion.

They are not bad. Video and audio are well done IMHO but they are maybe a bit too condensed for beginners. I’m interested in where they are taking this. My guess would be #3 will be “build terrain” and #4 will be “paint terrain”. I wonder if they will do anything that is not “buy and build this kit”.

@sundancer well done for getting your space organised.  I’m sure your mojo will be back again soon now the state of the space isn’t intrusive on your thinking.

What kind of order do you guys use ?

@limburger I keep my stuff organised into the three main areas I game; sci-fi, fantasy and historical.  Each category sub-divides into the main groups of my collection so Fantasy divides into LotR, Warhammer and RPG.  Within those groups I then go by individual army so LotR breaks down into Gondor, Rohan, Isengard, Mordor and Free Peoples.  I make no distinction between painted and unpainted stuff, so an army which isn’t finished has both next to each other.  I do try to get stuff out of any boxes and built when it arrives because my storage is set up to store built miniatures.

I’m mid-move so all of my stuff is in Really Useful boxes.  They are great, but even if I have stuff in sensible groups in the boxes and the boxes stacked in an order, the one I want is almost always at the bottom of the stack 😀  The bigger ones are also the only successful solution I’ve ever found for storing terrain.

When I had my room set up I used a pair of architects plan chests.  They have A1 sized drawers that are deep enough to take a 28mm cavalry figure standing up.  I was therefore able to lay out armies in units in the drawers.  Each drawer could take two or three armies or 5 to 6 skirmish forces.    They are great because you can see and get to so much stuff so easily.  Only drawback is that vehicles don’t fit so I keep those in the really useful boxes or on display.

I very grateful that its being discussed now. If i inadvertently did sometime in my rulebook people found really annoying it would be hard to change later. I even thought about making it kind of an open source style thing, because its not going to make me rich anyway, so id love for it to be a game as many people loved as possible. Getting advice when making games is quite difficult because other games designer are very protective of there ideas.

@Wonkygoblin My kinda game dev, getting down and dirty in the forums with us. Definitely a good community here to get info from here. I’d recommend you enter the new POTW (Print of the week) competition with your 3D model designs, as your project so far is brilliant, and I would love to know more about the software and modelling techniques you use.

@Wonkygoblin : what about greeting card style unit cards ?
The thing with (essential) stuff on the back is that you might forget there are special abilities you could have used.

There’d be even more space for art as a bonus.

I guess the thing to do is focus and not get distracted while organising storage.

For starters I’m once again thinking about an app idea that I had in mind for tracking my hobby stuff.
Maybe I just need to visualize the stuff I have first so I can get a better idea of what I am collecting ?

    #1944544

Thank you for the kind words. I am getting better with each model. If anyone is interested how I make them. I stream on twitch. I’m happy to help anyone who wants to give it a go.

    #1944550

Greeting card style cards isn’t a bad idea if I start to run out of room. At the moment its only the more wordy definitions of special abilities on the reverse of the card. It stops having to manual dive if you forget how something works.

Wednesday is creeping away and I have nearly got my PaintComp entry finished.  LBMS transfers arrived in the nick of time this afternoon.  I got the basic flock on the bases, transfers on and also got them varnished before it got too cold outside.  Final basing needs doing to match the other forces and then photo for the comp.  Currently not entry ready:

Rulebooks… I like them for the most part. The great amounts of fluff thrown in makes game generally more enjoyable for rpgs.

Pledge: Do hobby this weekend when I get back home from business. One day a week to try and do anything sucks.

For the great project of ANZACs and Skull Island that was covered I offer musical inspiration for @bobcockayne
