    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Questions:

    • Have you ever been to Spiel in Essen (Germany)?
    • How was your experience?
    • Will you go again?

And now back to the show.

Paintathon is slow. Very slow. I’m definitely below that 30 minutes a day goal from the other thread.

    My answers:

    • Yes, way back when… at least 13 years ago.
    • Interesting but boy was it crowded. So much so that I really had a hard time at times to enjoy the show or even see anything.
    • Possibly. There are smaller events locally where the family and I go to. And until “THE EVENT” (remain indoors) my daughter was to small/young/little to enjoy such a thing in full. So maybe (maybe) next year as a family.

Have some music to start the day:

And some nice big manly thumping machinery:

    Happy Friday.
It’s a rainy morning on my day off so I’ve spent the time painting my city guard. I think I’m calling them done now, so next I’ll be varnishing, rimming and then adding tufts.

For my pledge I’m going to dig out and paint some of spooky miniatures I bought a year ago from Northumbrian Tin Soldier, an upside down cartoon bat, and two witches and their cauldron.

Have you ever been to Spiel in Essen (Germany)?

No, but I did go to Games Day in Birmingham back in the late 90’s on the Games Workshop coach.

    How was your experience?

It was a lot of fun and quite a busy day. I remember it was the same place where they filmed Gladiators (the TV game show, not the movie) at the National Indoor Arena  so I was also excited about being there because of that.
I got to chat with James Wallis, a long time figure in the UK gaming industry, and at the time head of Hogshead who were republishing WFRP first edition. I also had a chat with the editor of Warpstone, a WFRP fanzine which kept the game going between editions after GW abandoned it.

The queues to see Jervis, Rick and all of the other famous names from the GW design studio were ridiculous so we didn’t even bother with those.
I seemed to remember picking up a few Warhammer Journals there, but, alas, I don’t have them anymore.

    Will you go again?

Not now. Do GW even have Games Day anymore? Even if they did it’s a very different company and game(s) than it was then, and I’ve mostly drifted away from their stuff.

I would go to Essen though, seems like fun. I’ll just need to wait until we all have money again. We could all go over as a group and stay at Sundancer’s house, lol.

Jonathan Green has announced he’ll be doing a new Kickstarter soon for new coffee table sized book all about the 40 years of Fighting Fantasy. He’s already released this video with some exciting music.

Well for that to happen I would need to save even more money then you lot to actually get a house. Also Essen isn’t really around the corner from my part of the country. it’s a 4’ish hour drive.

    40 years already? flock!

This is a Hobby Revenge Weekend for me.  Gotta make up for lost time last weekend.

Assembly, paint, and rigging of more Black Seas ships.

    Painting of Malifaux minis.

Lighting, Filming, Editing, and trying to convince myself that the video is not terrible.  Maybe end up with something I might possibly feel like sharing with the group.  This part is iffy.  I think I’m getting better but why does my voice sound so weird when I listen to it after being recorded?  Does everyone think their voice is off when they listen to it in a recording?

    Questions: of the week

    ####################

    Question:

Have you ever been to Spiel in Essen (Germany)?

Answer:. No …….. I have yet to step outside the mainland USA.  (but I think Spiel would be interesting)

    Answer: NA

    Question:

    Will you go again?

Answer: must attend once before going again! ?

Yes, definitely YES. I can barely stand hearing myself.

Those Frostgrave minis look like they are coming along nicely @sundancer. Oh, and congratulations for getting another golden button.

I didn’t do much painting over the weekend but I have done a good amount today, working on last years purchase of some Hallowe’en themed models from Northumbrian Tin Soldier.

Since I’ve recently started using contrast paints I find that you have to be a lot more careful and aim to make less mistakes when applying the paint. My usual method with other paints is to slap the base coat on and sort it out after the wash.
