### Start of shameless copy & paste ###
First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…
Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.
First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.
You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.
If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.
A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.
Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.
Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)
And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv
### End of shameless copy & paste ###
Questions:
- Spring (on the northern hemisphere): blessing or curse?
- Bright evil day star: miniature gaming outside, yes, no, are you mad?
- Are you well hydrated?
Discuss!
April 23, 2021 at 6:26 am #1638814Pledge: try to paint some orcs!
Answers:
- I have hay fever… you do the MATHS… *gnaaaa*
- Nice idea in theory but rarely doable. And here metal minis show their absolute dominance while plastic and resin get blown away.
- Yes.
Now. 13.5 hours until “The Weekender”. Get your beers ready.
April 23, 2021 at 11:24 am #1638886This weekend I’m going to try to finish the four miniatures left for my Stargrave Crew, then maybe make a start on the evil robots that are the Core Space Purge. I might even set up a table and have a cheeky little solo game of Stargrave before Joe releases the free solo rules on the official launch day.
Spring (on the northern hemisphere): blessing or curse?
A blessing, not too cold, not too hot but right (same way I like my porridge).
Bright evil day star: miniature gaming outside, yes, no, are you mad?
No for me. Weather gets in the way.
…metal minis show their absolute dominance while plastic and resin get blown away.
Ha, yes indeed. Same with terrain. Those polystyrene hills will be gone pretty quick.
Are you well hydrated?
Generally yes, I try to be. Is there such a thing as too much tea?
April 23, 2021 at 12:11 pm #1638896April 23, 2021 at 2:02 pm #1638908I’ve missed the thread the past couple of weeks, so this week I’m making sure to jump in on the first day!
This week’s pledge is to finish the sculpting I’ve been doing for my Celt spring cleaning.
- Spring (on the northern hemisphere): blessing or curse? – I do get hayfever but it’s been getting milder in recent years.
- Bright evil day star: miniature gaming outside, yes, no, are you mad? – Mad – mainly because of insects and animals rather than the heat.
- Are you well hydrated? – Usually.
April 23, 2021 at 3:58 pm #1638931Well I have one last thing to do for school, and then I’m free. We even sorted out the house part so I might be able to get my hobby supplies out this week and get something done! That’s mildly exciting! I won’t make a definite promise, but you just might see something painted by me this week!
Also, I have never seen gesundheit actually spelled out…I always assumed there was a z in there and not an s. You learn something new every day! And now…questions!
Spring (on the northern hemisphere): blessing or curse?
Spring is alright. The weather isn’t unbearably hot in the spring. We had snow the past two days. Winter is my favourite season, though; I like the cold.
Bright evil day star: miniature gaming outside, yes, no, are you mad?
I’d never play with tiny fighting men outside. Most of my armies are plastic and they blow away in slight breezes. Not even The Event (stay indoors) would get me to play outside…though it’s been an awful long time since I could play at all…
Are you well hydrated?
In reference to one of last week’s answers… Yes, but actually no.
April 23, 2021 at 5:21 pm #16389721) Spring (on the northern hemisphere): blessing or curse?
*achoo* … yeah … I know the feeling.
Not sure why, but I’ve noticed it less as I get older.
Although it may be related to me having different travel routes so I may not be exposed to the pollen as much as I used to be.2) Bright evil day star: miniature gaming outside, yes, no, are you mad?
Outside ?
Where the wild things are ?
You are mad …3) Are you well hydrated?
*blub* *glug* *glug* *blub* … yeah I think so.One advantage of The Event (stay indoors!) is that even though his royal highness King Lager aka King William will be visiting my town this tuesday it will be without any royal fans and idiots dressed in orange …
April 23, 2021 at 9:02 pm #1639000- Spring (on the northern hemisphere): blessing or curse?
Absolute blessing. I love spring. If I could, I’d make it spring all year round. Lovely warm days – but the risk it might be cold, or rainy, or windy make the still, warm summer-y ones all the more special. Leaf-less trees with the green haze of new growth, blossom everywhere – I swear people smile more too. Yep, definitely a blessing.
- Bright evil day star: miniature gaming outside, yes, no, are you mad?
Are you crazy?! There are some things you do inside, no matter how much your weird neighbours might try to convince you otherwise. Watching telly. Baking a cake. Playing tabletop games. Some things are for indoors only.
- Are you well hydrated?
I don’t think our kettle is ever anything cooler than “warming down”. Tea, coffee, another tea, f@*k it, let’s go crazy and have two brews in a row. I drink plenty. I’m not having it that if it’s not bottled water, you’re not “hydrated properly”. Tea is just water with a slight staining to it after all 😉
In other news – we’re looking to join a narrowboat syndicate. Having our own boat outright again seems a bit too far out of reach (the annual licencing alone would be the best part of £1500, mooring around £3k a year….) but if we’re accepted into the co-op, we’ll be back on the canals for a week or two, three or four times a year, which is going to be awesome!
More news – I helped my childhood hero Timmy Mallett get his bike across the sea lock gates in Southwick this afternoon, as my wife and I returned from the seafront having a coffee. He was every bit as colourful, bizarre, and brilliant as you would expect. (As an explosion of colour and lycra and glasses approached from the other side, I whispered to Nick “look at this guy, he thinks he’s Timmy Mallett or something” – only a few seconds later to proclaim “f@*k me, it’s Timmy Mallett!”)
Music – I’ve been playing quite a bit of blues on my guitar lately but I’m not really a fan of “blues-y blues”. I like “happy blues”. Like the up-tempo, foot-tapping, country-rock blues. Then I fell down the Youtube algorithm rabbithole, and listened to *a lot* of “Americana” and country-and-western.
This song really struck a chord:
Pledge: learn some country songs. Yeah, I know it’s not all about painting miniatures. But it turns out that life’s not like that 😉
Ok, finish my half-a-human team (for Blood Bowl sevens).
April 25, 2021 at 8:32 am #1639399Hello weekenders,
I hope that Sunday brings you plenty of rest and enjoyable pursuits.
I had my first COVID jab yesterday, and today have a very sore arm and flop sweats. Urrgh.
if I can trust myself with power tools, I need to start building my bespoke working from home desk. This is taking the place of my painting area (sad face) but is a must to stop having to put a 27-inch monitor on my dining table every morning.
“Plans” and prepared space below (the giant hole of phone cable will be sorted!)
that is my pledge for today!
- Spring (on the northern hemisphere): blessing or curse
Curse! I’ve barely slept the last two weeks as hay fever has congested me up and left my eyes streaming so badly I look like The Crow come mid afternoon!
but, I gotta admit, like blinky, it is gorgeous weather and people do seem happier
- Bright evil day star: miniature gaming outside, yes, no, are you mad?
No to the gaming – but yes to terrain painting outside
- Are you well hydrated?
Not as much as I should be. That red wine last night on top of vaccine and antihistamines was a, mistake…

@carlospictor Well @warzan has survived his power tools so far… can’t be that hard then 😉
@blinky465 but don’t start to tinker with the chips… that will annoy the lizard overlords.
I just backed that weird micro dremel thingy on Kickstarter. Reading all the other comments on their old projects leads me to believe it might go bad… but we’ll see.
April 26, 2021 at 8:02 pm #1639927As promised, I painted something! I just wanted to get something done as a celebration of being done school for another semester, and I thought what better model to paint than a worn out old man sitting in a chair looking grumpy. So I chose Walder Frey! I’ll start work on a project log in a bit (I’ll have to find the project it’s been so long since I updated…) but here’s a pic for now. The only area I’m not 100% on is the skin. The detail on the mini is quite shallow, and my attempt at liver spots on the skin might have been a bit excessive in terms of size, but here is the old codger!
Also having to tidy up my room for house viewings meant I could more easily set up a better spot for taking pictures.
