    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • We all know struggles we have with our hobby. From the simple “what colour scheme will this be” over “where do I get XPS foam?” up to “Why don’t they have a distributor closer to me?”. But what outside struggles have the biggest influence on your hobby?

And now back to the show.

Pledge: Update some of my projects and then think of what to do next in my hobby time.

Answer: Well. Boiled down to the core it’s money. Simple as that. The hobby room/home office is small and cramped. Shelves are full with a variety of stuff and to really reorganise I’d need to buy stuff. So I need money. Had I more money I could buy a house and have a bigger room which would (temporarily) solve the space problem. Had I enough money to put aside something each month for the time when I’m not working any more I’d enjoy my hobby more because it’s not “eating into my disposable income” [Have I mentioned how I despise the term “disposable income”? It’s not disposable. I would just have more income than expenses thus having something left over to just enjoy.] And you might say “you think too much about money” and maybe you’re right but technically I’m now closer to retirement than to the birth of my daughter so “shit is getting real”. Money is my weak point. I really hate that topic.

Music: Because Ace has left us I feel this is the best current option

    Back to you Steve.

Pledge: finish commission this weekend. Down to five models!

Struggles: for me, it’s location. I live in a far NW suburb of my city, making getting to physical hobby shops – and therefore gaming – a minimum 30 minute drive, on a 100kmh ring road. It sucks. I used to live inner city, and I really miss that.

Pledge: Despite the urge… try not to go sick for my last week employment. The last days seems to be dragging out.

Struggles affecting my hobby are: lack of motivation and lack of daylight.

I have a magnifier light, but I prefer to paint in daylight and this time of year there’s not much of it left by the the time I get home… however… I will not have that excuse in a little over a week… although I live in England and bright sunlight is rarity lately.

Motivation is the tricky one. There’s been a lot going on in my life the last few months and I thought that things would get better when I retired… but there’s been a couple of things happen in the last 24 hours that complicate things and I don’t want to go into either of them.

P.S. Congratulations @sundancer as you’re one of the Konflikt 47 winners.

Oh I can totally get that :S

    lack of daylight.

That is an unusual one in our hobby. At least judging by what people seem to think about us gamers.

but there’s been a couple of things happen in the last 24 hours that complicate things and I don’t want to go into either of them.

I understand that. Hang in there!

Thanks @grantinvanman… just have to get through the next seven working days without going postal.

If you believe the media @sundancer… gamers live in their parents basement and as sensitive to daylight as a vampire. I just find it easier to paint with sunlight than I do artificial light.

Struggles include working full time and trying to sculpt miniatures, design a game, do art work for said game and playtest. All self inflicted i know. 🤣 this weekend i will be sculpting while streaming and printing the next batch of test prints.

    struggles ?

    Three things:

    1. Inspiration: losing it
    2. Squirrel aka distractions or new shiny … when you’re finally on a roll this comes around to stop you
    3. stuff not going as planned: the worst of them all. Tends to result in a loss of inspiration or makes you vulnerable to distractions …

I think I got the basics for my 1:1 scale terrain project sorted.
Parts have been cut, so all I got to do is assemble and paint it.
All I can hope is that all goes as planned, but I still got to get (enough) paint for the project.

And of course I got another distraction coming up … a visit to the Scale Model Challenge convention.

Night of the HASHUT! I ordered a bunch of the new Chaos Dwarfs tonight; I already had the boxed set from about a month ago.

I’ll probably use them as Old World against my Cathay.

aren’t we supposed to be boycotting GW on the grounds of them being Evil Rotten B*stards ™ ?

Or did the new shiny win you over ? 😉

(must admit that I’d have a hard time avoiding GW too if they had something I really liked.)

Pledge – Complete my Display Case Project, some kind of stained glass effect needed, move onto the Gloomy entry for this month’s Paint Comp and stay on task if possible 🙂

Struggles – Mental Health mostly, when I’m good hobbying is easy, when I’m not, motivation is often lacking, and it’s a burden to even look at a project. I try to make the most of it when I can, use the good days and try and avoid the bad. It’s up and down, but a sense of community definitely helps, and the encouragement on here and camaraderie are very uplifting even on the bad days.  🙂

@limburger – in my area, GW is the only game being played. There’s small pockets of other things, so I’ve given up and just decided to go with the flow. And the flow is shiny right now …

@Lazagram – that is a real struggle, one many will never understand. I’m glad you find community here, I do, too. 👍

but a sense of community definitely helps

If there only was a place where we could find that! XD @Lazagram

yeah, having like minded people usually is the best way to stay on the brighter side of life. Especially when things feel like all is going dark.
